DIRECTOR’S NOTESThere are certain people in our lives with whom we find we have an undeniable, inevitable, connection which time apart does not diminish. When we see that person after years away it’s as if no time has passed, and we find ourselves marveling at how we can pick up exactly where we left off. In Same Time, Next Year Bernard Slade charmingly explores this theme, as we check in on George and Doris six times over a period of twenty-four years from 1951 to 1975. That quarter century in America saw rapid and sometimes uncomfortable change – in music, fashion, and social and sexual norms. Just as the country transformed through these years, so too do George and Doris. But even as they change the connection between them remains strong. Such connections are the constants in our lives. Same Time, Next Year is a poignant, touching, and funny homage to those relationships. Enjoy.
