Freya Bruhin• I want to also place emphasis here that one

way in which I want to explore how the girl deals with Schizophrenia is through her art. Freya’s individual look creates the stereotypical connotations of an artist with her dungarees and ‘out there’ hair and make up.

Her piercings, dreads and unique taste in clothing make her stand out as an individual and not only separates her from the rest of the cast as unusual, but also highlights her as creating her own world and style. This is something to which my video will explore as she struggles with coping with Schizophrenia and tries to copy what she sees in within the media, incorporating them into her own life. Researchers Bulmer and Katz expand upon this observation and a theory of Lasswell’s, publishing their own in 1974. It stated that individuals might choose and use a text for Personal Relationships. E.g using the media for emotional and other interaction, identifying with artists or perhaps substituting a character in a book for yourself in order to relate. This is one subject to which Freya’s attire and look draws attention to. Not only is her character trying to conform to an identity she has found in the media, the audience of the video may try and conform to her look to connect with the style and trend of the music. This is almost ironic and acknowledges media theory throughout her character and within the video itself.

As a teen who enjoys reggae, jazz and alternative music, Freya acts as our ideal target audience for my music video. Her alternative look adds to the sort of style you would expect an audience member of the Piratones to perhaps look like, given the Reggae/ alternative feel to the song. Freya happens to actually be an audience member of The Piratones and has seen them live many times.Freya’s A-levels consist of Art, Textiles, Psychology

and Sociology. This is exactly the type of audience I am aiming at, with my concept surrounding the idea of mental illness combined with the social aspect of media and art. In addition to this the fact Freya is particularly good at art enables me the opportunity to perhaps use her skills within my music video.

Freya’s availability was also key in casting her. As a friend of mine who attends the same Sixth Form as me, and also who I have as a close contact via Facebook, I can guarantee her to be easy to get to when I begin filming. This also allowed me to check her timetable and calculate when she was free.

Name: Frank Dunn

Character: Anonymous Man no.1

Age: 17

Likes: Basketball, Parties

Clothing: Loose clothing

Character Profile

Name: Anonymous Man no.1

Personality: Distant, Friendly, Reference to the drug dealer in Pulp Fiction in the sense he’s chilled, but definitely illegal;ll.

Likes: Reggae, Tarantino Films

Clothing: Hawaiian shirt and Black Jeans

Frank Dunn

I chose Frank’s clothing to closely resemble the drug dealer in Pulp fiction because this is sort of how I pictured his character. As in Pulp fiction, Frank’s character, Anonymous Man no.1 is both likable but completely illegal and corrupt. We will only ever see glimpses/shots of Frank’s characters true friendly persona because the video is exploring how Freya’s character’s schizophrenia is making her believe the men close to her are the sins of her life. The video will therefore explore Frank as corrupt and forceful because this is how Freya’s character views him. His loose and fun attire is one of the only hints at his true character.

Frank’s availability was also key in casting him. As a friend of mine who attends the same Sixth Form as me, and also who I have as a close contact via Facebook, I can guarantee him to be easy to get to when I begin filming. This also allowed me to check his timetable and calculate when he was free.

Frank’s personality in real life is predominantly chilled, free-spirited and therefore seemed like the perfect actor to enhance realism into his character and the distant yet also friendly persona that I intend his anonymous character to have.

Name: Noah Merrell

Character: Anonymous Man no.2

Age: 17

Likes: Playing Piano + Drums, Drama, Band Practice.

Clothing: T-shirts and Jeans

Character Profile:

Name: Anonymous Man no.2

Personality: Formal/Proper, Loving

Likes: His work

Clothing: Suit, Black and White

Noah Merrell

• Noah’s costume is intended to suggests a formality to his personality. I hope to suggest within the music video that Noah’s character (Anonymous Man no.2) may in fact be Freya’s character’s love interest. The fact that he is wearing a suit therefore enhances a certain level of strictness and the connotations of force which Freya’s character’s mind believes he has over her when really in real life this is all in her imagination. Connotations of his costume will act as a signifier to the audience as a way of controlling how they view Anonymous Man no.2 and leading them to believe Freya’s character’s perception that he is a forceful and strict character.

The casting of Noah was simple. As a fellow actor and friend in my drama class I was aware of his ability to act and it was easy to approach him and ask if he wanted to be in the video. Because he also did Drama, it was additionally easier for me to find out when he was free and to calculate our filming schedule around this.

Name: Jack Bruhin

Character: Anonymous Man no.3

Age: 17

Likes: Photography

Clothing: T-shirts and Jeans

Character Profile:

Name: Anonymous Man no.3

Personality: Keeps himself to himself.

Likes: Punk Rock, Movies

Clothing: Black Harrington jacket and Black jeans.

Jack Bruhin

• As the twin of Freya, Jack was very easy to add to my cast as it was easier to organise both of them to come at the same time (with them both living in the same house).

Jack’s costume is intended to portray the most ‘brutish’ out of the characters. The dark colour of his black bomber jacket and black jeans develop the connotations of mystery and give a deadly/chilling feel to his character. This is intentional, because Jack’s character – Anonymous Man no.3 will act as what Freya’s character truly believes is her stalker. In real life, Anonymous Man no.3 is a man who lives close to Freya and so she sees at the shop every so often. The video however, will see how Freya’s character views him, hence his curiously dark attire will emphasise this.

Jack also has an interest in photography, for my video he has allowed me to borrow his D-SLR camera and tripod which has been a massive help in the quality and appeal of my production. Jack has also been able to provide opinions and help me to use the camera.
