Student of the Week
Skylah Anderson
Skylah has earned the title of student of the
week this week for challenging herself to
improve in all areas of learning.
Last week, Skylah worked really hard to
improve her reading. She eagerly practised her
readers and used her knowledge of reading
strategies to assist her. She didn’t give up
when she came across words she didn’t know
but used pictures, sounds and context to
problem solve.
In the 5 weeks she has been at school, Skylah
has already gained a bank of known sounds
and words to assist in her reading and writing.

Monday 5 March 2018 Term 1– Week 6
Last week, Skylah took every opportunity to
practise these words and show others what
she can do.
Skylah demonstrated some impressive number
work last week. She enjoyed playing number
games and working with others in group
learning activities.
When it comes to computer skills, she has
come a long way. When Skylah started at
school, she didn’t know how to use a mouse or
a keyboard and now she uses both effectively
to participate in games and online activities.
She is even practicing her typing skills on the
computer and trying hard to keep up with her
peers.
Skylah continues to play safely in the
playground and enjoys helping in the
classroom.
Congratulations Skylah and keep up the
impressive work!
Captain’s Report
By Isabelle Bibby
During art lessons we have been making decorations for the Busby room door. If you get a chance, come have a look at them. Sharon came out for golf lessons again this week. She did some awesome activities with us. Everyone enjoys participating in the challenging games she shares with us. We held our first assembly this week. It was great to see so many awards given our to
students who are trying their best in many areas at school. Last Friday we cleaned up our school community area as part of Clean up Australia Day. In Maths lessons this week, we have been learning time. We have been busy writing persuasive texts about avoiding being eaten by a farmer. Students were his turkeys. We all enjoyed this task Mrs Austin set us.
Classroom learning with
Mrs Hopkins
Cassilis Public School’s new Instructional Leader, Mrs Hopkins joins us each Monday to support our students and staff to provide quality education. Mrs Hopkins is an asset to the school and has already introduced a range of beneficial activities and resources to our classrooms. Mrs Hopkins continues to work with Mrs Austin, Mrs Nairne and myself to provide a consistent, quality approach to student learning and quality teaching.

Monday 5 March 2018 Term 1– Week 6
Last week, we adapted our regular number talk activity on a Monday by trialling a new Splat number activity suggested by Mrs Hopkins. The kids enjoyed working out how many counters they had to start with and problem solving to identify the number of counters that are covered.
Skylah counting the counters left on the board.
Students using counters to work out how many counters were hidden
Mrs Hopkins read the story, ‘The Fearsome, frightening, ferocious Box’ to students on Monday. The kids enjoyed trying to work out what was inside the box and trying to find six camouflaged creatures hidden in the amazing illustrations. The story sure had the students undivided attention.
Easter Hat Parade/ Harmony Day
On Monday 26 March, Cassilis Public School will be holding a combined Easter Hat Parade and Harmony Day event. Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Students will participate in Harmony Day and Easter craft and learning activities throughout the morning.
