People are setting up card tables, a roulette wheel, etc.

MICHAEL (V.O.)Tonight, the Scranton Business Park is having Casino Night. And we are converting our warehouse into a full-blown gambling hall. And, I know that it’s illegal in Pennsylvania...

MICHAEL TALKING HEAD2 2

MICHAEL...but it’s for charity, and I consider myself a great philanderer. It’s nice to know at the end of the day, I can look in the mirror and say, “Michael, because of you some little kid in the Congo has a belly full of rice this evening.” Makes ya feel good.

INT. OFFICE - JIM AND DWIGHT’S DESKS - D13 3

DWIGHT enters for the day. He goes to the coat rack and takes off his coat, revealing a TUXEDO. JIM crosses over.

JIMExcuse me? How long is the wait for a table for two?

PAM smiles.

DWIGHTI would never ever serve you. Not in a million, billion years.

PAMIt’s a nice tux.

DWIGHTI know. It belonged to my grandfather. He was buried in it. So, family heirloom.

PAMCome on, it’ll be fun. And besides, I’m a roulette expert.

Dwight interrupts.

DWIGHTImpossible. Roulette is not a game of skill, it is a game of chance.

JIMI can kind of always win at roulette.

DWIGHTOh really.

JIMYeah.

DWIGHTHow would you do that?

JIMMind control.

DWIGHT(laughs)

You can’t be serious. Are you serious?

JIM(he takes what is, for Jim, a dramatic pause)

Every since I was a little kid, like eight or nine, I could sort of control things with my mind.

DWIGHTI don’t believe you, continue.

JIMIt was just little things, you know? Like I could make something shake, or I could make a marble fall off a counter, you know? Just little things.

(mocking)Excuse me. Everyone, attention in the office please. Jim is about to prove his telekinetic powers, and he needs absolute silence.

JIMOkay, I’ll try.

Jim takes a deep breath in mock concentration.

Suddenly, the coat rack shifts a little. Dwight is utterly speechless.

Dwight is confused, and fascinated. Jim looks lovingly at Pam, who winks at him.

MICHAELI try not to think of it as lagging behind. It’s more of a David and Goliath thing.

JAN (V.O.)Well, the fact of the matter is that your branch is currently number four of the five branches that I oversee and--

MICHAELTop eighty percent.

Pause.

JAN (V.O.)Michael.

MICHAELYup?

JAN (V.O.)You know that I am very serious here.

MICHAEL Jan, listen, I promise I will kick it up a notch... Bam!

JAN (V.O.)What?

MICHAELEmeril... Oh actually, while I have you, not that I have you, or have ever had you... but we’re having our casino night. And I think everyone would love to see their fearless leader here.

JAN (V.O.)I thought that you were their fearless leader.

MICHAELI am, but you are the Eva Peron to my Cesar Chavez.

JAN (V.O.)I think that you can handle it--

MICHAEL(talking over Jan)

Oh come on. It’ll be fun. I can hear it in your voice, you need a break.

MICHAELJan and I understand each other. The romance thing is sort of on hold for the time being. But we’re... We remain good friends. Good friends with “privileges.” Not now. Someday.

Michael sits on the reception desk, addressing the office.

MICHAELOkay everybody. Tonight’s event is to benefit the Boy Scouts of America.

OSCARAgain? We do that every year.

MICHAELWell, they need our money. They don’t have cookies like the Girl Scouts.

Oscar is not convinced.

OSCARIt’d be nice to do something for people who are actually suffering.

MICHAEL Well, Oscar, if you don’t like it, then you should concentrate on winning.

MICHAELComedy is very much alive. As are homeless people.

PAMNo -- they stopped making that show.

MICHAELWell then they need our money more than ever.

TOBYActually, I didn’t think it was appropriate to invite children since it’s a... You know there’s gambling and alcohol and it’s in our dangerous warehouse and it’s a school night and, you know, Hooters is catering... Is that enough? Should I keep going?

MICHAELWhy are you the way that you are? Honestly, every time I try to do something fun or exciting you make it not that way. I hate so much about the things that you chose to be.

(beat)Okay, you know what? I will not donate my winnings to comic relief since apparently it doesn’t exist. I am going to donate to Afghanistanis with AIDS.

JIMI think you mean the aid to Afghanistan.

MICHAELNo, I mean Afghanistanis with AIDS.

The Lincoln assassination just recently became funny: “I need to see this play like I need a hole in the head.” And I hope to someday live in a world where a person could tell a hilarious AIDS joke. That’s one of my dreams.

DWIGHTWhen Darryl was coming, you said that you wanted me here for protection.

DARRYLWe just have a lot of stuff down there that could be stolen.

PAMOh, wait. That’s Kevin on the drums

JIMOh my God that’s Kevin!

The camera pushes in on the TV to REVEAL Kevin’s Band, “Scrantonicity.”

JIM (CONT’D)Great song Kev. Oh my God, he’s the drummer and the singer.


KEVINWe don’t really do a lot of weddings. We actually don’t play in public very often. We are all really hoping that Pam’s wedding works out. This could be a turning point for the band.

JIMYeah, you haven’t seen that since 1983. That is amazing.

JIMYou’re going to lose him to another wedding.

Pam slams the door. They're both giggling.


PAM Jim is great. Being with him just takes away all the stress of planning my wedding.

Michael clicks his call waiting.

MICHAELWhat?

CAROL (V.O.)I’d love to go.

The warehouse has been transformed into a fairly professional-looking gambling facility. Hired dealers, croupiers, and others oversee the tables. Various Dunder Mifflin employees mingle with OTHERS from the office park.

ANGLE ON: Pam and Roy at the roulette wheel. Pam wins.

PAMOh my God!

They kiss.

ROYThat’s great.

ANGLE ON: Jim standing with Ryan and Kelly. He is watching Pam and Roy.

Carol cautiously enters the warehouse and looks around. Michael lights up.

MICHAELHey Carol!

CAROLHi.

MICHAELYou look great.

CAROL Thanks. Thank you for inviting me, it looks so great in here.

Michael kisses her on the cheek; she is awkward, he goes for the other cheek, trying to turn it into a more European thing.

MICHAELWell, that’s how we do it in the paper biz.

Carol looks at him like it’s weird.

In the background Creed pockets what he can get his hands on.

Billy Merchant is playing blackjack. An attractive woman, ALLISON, stands behind Billy. Michael walks by with two drinks.

ALLISONI’m going to get a drink. Do you need anything?

BILLYI’m fine, thanks, sweetheart.

Michael watches this exchange. Allison leaves.

MICHAELBilly, your nurse is hot.

BILLYThat’s my girlfriend.

MICHAELYour nurse became your girlfriend? Sweet!

BILLYShe was never my nurse. I met her at Chili’s. She was my waitress.

MICHAEL(embarrassed)

Michael gets everyone’s attention. Carol watches a little impressed.

MICHAEL Willkommen! Bienvenu! And welcome to Monte Carlo!

He cracks two green glowsticks.

MICHAEL (CONT’D)Dwight...

Dwight dims the lights. Michael waves the glowsticks, very Cirque du Soleil.

MICHAEL (CONT’D)I am no longer your boss -- Lady Fortune is your boss.

STANLEYWill Lady Fortune give me a raise?

MICHAELShut it, shut it, shut it...

(continuing)Will Lady Fortune be your mistress? Only time will tell my friends. Leave all your preconceived notions about casinos at the door. Old friends, new lovers and the disabled, welcome all.

(beat)Great! Okay, shuffle up and deal! Let’s get it started.

Michael takes a seat at a table next to Carol.

The dealer finishes dealing. Michael glances at his cards. Other people bet.

DEALEROkay the game is No Limit Texas Hold-’Em. Good luck everybody.

Michael pauses, looks at his cards. We see that Toby has a pair of Jacks.

DEALER (CONT’D)(to Michael)

That’s at least four red chips to you sir.

MICHAEL(sighs, serious)

All in.

He shoves his chips into the middle.

MICHAEL (V.O.) (CONT’D)Bluffing is a key part of poker.


MICHAELWhich is too bad because I’m not very good at bluffing.

(beat; cracks a smile)Did you believe me?

A few people fold. It gets to Toby.

TOBY...I’ll call.

MICHAELWhat? That’s insane.

TOBYI have good cards.

MICHAELWell Toby, I went all-in on the first hand. Doesn’t that tell you that I might have good cards, too? Don’t be stupid. Just take it back.

DEALERI’m sorry, he can’t sir. He’s gone all in.

We see Jan arriving. She is dressed differently than the others, in nice jeans. Michael sees her, and looks desperately around for Dwight.

MICHAEL (CONT’D)Oh my God, oh my God...

JANMichael--

MICHAELJan.

JANHi.

MICHAELLook, okay, I think we are all adults here, and it has always been my understanding that we have an open relationship.

JANWhat, wait... What are you talking about?

CAROLWhat does that mean?

MICHAELAfter you said you weren’t coming, I invited Carol, and, I don’t think I did anything wrong.

JANNo, no you didn’t.

(to Carol)Hi I’m Jan. I’m Michael’s boss. Does anyone want a drink?

CAROLNo, I’m good.

Jan crosses off.

Carol looks a little confused. Dwight comes running up. He kisses Michael on the cheek whispers in his Michael’s ear.

DWIGHT(over Michael’s shoulder)

Jan’s here!

INT. WAREHOUSE - CRAPS TABLES - LATER - N153 53

Dwight is about to roll. Kevin, Phyllis, Bob Vance, Meredith, Billy Merchant and Allison surround the table. Angela walks up and stands beside Dwight.

DWIGHTGive me the dice. Let’s go!

ANGELAGood evening, Dwight.

(examines the table)What is this?

DWIGHTGood evening, Angela. This is craps. I need to roll an eight. If I do, everyone wins.

ANGELAThen roll an eight.

DWIGHTThank you, Angela.

ANGELA(staring straight ahead)

The table erupts with cheers for Dwight. Dwight impulsively kisses Angela on the cheek. Angela, momentarily dazed, regains her composure and slaps Dwight.

Dwight has a look of shock on his face. Angela storms away, and as she crosses away from the table, the camera catches the smallest hint of a smile.

INT. WAREHOUSE - POKER TABLES - N154 54

Table Two is down to Jim, Pam, Kevin, and Phyllis. Pam sits across from Jim. Pam is dealt a card, and smiles slightly but unmistakably.

JIMYeah, right.

PAMYeah right what?

JIMWhat was this?

Jim imitates Pam’s smirk. Pam laughs.

PAMI have good cards.

JIMReally.

PAMMm hmm. And I’m going to take you all in.

JIM Wow. I think you’re bluffing.

Pam makes a playful gesture, like “Who knows?” Jim stares at her intensely. She smiles her best enigmatic smile. Jim enjoys this woman so much, he finally has to break eye contact and shake it off.

KEVINJim Halpert ladies and gentlemen.

People at the table clap.

JIM Thank you very much. It was fun.

INT. WAREHOUSE - N155 55

Jan and Carol stand at the bar, both surveying the scene.

JAN(to the bartender)

A cosmopolitan please.

CAROL(ordering)

Red wine. (to Jan)

So. Two hours, that’s a long drive.

JANWell, it’s part of the job, you know, keep an eye on things. So, why not?

Both women laugh a little together, even though there’s no real reason to laugh. Then they kind of notice this and stop.

JAN (CONT’D)So how long have you and Michael been...?

CAROLOh. Well, actually, I guess this would be our first date.

JANCasino night in the warehouse. You’re a good sport.

CAROLWell, I’m having a nice time.

Jan takes a sip of her drink.


We see Creed swipe some more chips.

INT. WAREHOUSE - BAR - N157 57

Jim is waiting at the bar. Ryan comes up to order.

RYANOne beer, and one Seven and Seven with eight maraschino cherries, sugar on the rim. Blended if you can.

JIMSo that’s still going on, huh? You and Kelly?

Ryan shrugs.


Michael is nervously playing craps. Jan is on one side, Carol on the other. Dwight looks on.

MICHAELAlright!

CRAPS GUYPoint is four.

DWIGHTCome on, shooter! Four shooter!

Craps Guy pushes the dice to Michael.

MICHAELFour! Four!

(to Carol)Here -- blow, blow for luck.

She blows on the dice.

MICHAEL (CONT’D)Yeah!

Michael is about to roll when he remembers Jan.

MICHAEL (CONT’D)Also you. Not playing favorites.

Jan stares at him. Michael turns back and rolls.

MICHAEL (CONT’D)Alright, here we go!

Michael loses. Dwight turns to Jan.

DWIGHTSo, where are you staying? Radisson?

JAN...What?

DWIGHTSuper Eight?

JANNo I...

DWIGHT Ramada? Motel Six?

JAN(embarrassed)

I... I didn’t... I’m not, I don’t know.

DWIGHTHoliday Inn? The Hyatt in Wilkesborough? Are you staying with Michael?

She glances nervously at the camera.

The cards are dealt. Everyone glances. Phyllis shows hers to Bob Vance. Kevin, a perfect poker face, glances down.

KEVIN (V.O.)I won the 1994 Twenty-Five-Hundred-Dollar...


KEVIN...No-Limit Deuce-to-Seven Draw Tournament at the World Series of Poker in Vegas.

(beat)So, yeah, I’m pretty good at poker.

INT. WAREHOUSE - POKER TABLES - N161 61

It’s down to two players - Kevin and Phyllis.

A bunch of people are standing around the table. Kevin pushes all of his chips in.

KEVINAll in.

Murmurs of excitement from the group.

PHYLLIS Okay. Let’s do it.

BOB VANCEGood luck, honey.

PHYLLISOh, thank you Bobby. But it doesn’t matter. It’s just fun to play.

Kevin reveals his cards.

KEVINThree queens.

Phyllis flips over her cards.

PHYLLISI have an Ace.

OSCARNo, that’s a flush.

PHYLLIS(giddy)

Oh, I got a flush.

BOB VANCEYes!

PHILLISLook I have all the clovers. You wanna play again?


KEVINI suck.


Kevin is drowning his sorrows at the bar. Roy comes up to him.

ROYShe took you down, huh?

KEVINI do not want to talk about it.

ROYHey -- I saw your tape.

(Kevin is confused)Your band -- “Scrantonicity.” You guys rock.

KEVINYeah?

ROYYeah. You guys want to play at our wedding?

KEVIN(brightening)

Yeah! Awesome. Did Pam say it was okay?

ROYWhatever -- I’m in charge of the music.

Jan is smoking. Jim walks over to her.

JANYou smoke?

Jim gestures -- “I’m good, thanks.”

JIMYou having fun?

She seems to have a couple drinks in her and a messed-up energy with it.

JANFabulous time.

A disconnected beat. Then:

JAN (CONT’D)I drove two and a half hours to get here.

Jim senses this is going to be weird but pretends that maybe it won’t be.

JIMYeah, we all really--

JAN(hitting her cigarette)

I left work early, drove down here. And I am completely under-dressed.

JIMI think you look great.

Jan puffs away. Jim isn’t quite sure what to say to make her feel better.

JANWhy did I hook up with Michael?

Yeah. Why did you?

JANIt was very late, Jim. Vary late and...

(then)Have you given any more thought to the transfer?

JIM(sighs)

Yeah.

Creed is at a craps table beside Angela. He reaches over and steals some more chips.

Bob Vance holds a microphone and stands beside a mini-fridge. Phyllis hovers closely. The night’s winding down. People are milling about.

BOB VANCE Excuse me. Big moment. The evening’s chip leader, and winner of this beautiful mini-refrigerator, courtesy of Vance Refrigeration: Creed Bratton, Dunder Mifflin.

People applaud. Creed heads over to Bob, shakes his hand.

CREEDThanks. I’ve never owned a refrigerator.

Creed picks up the mini-fridge and walks off.

EXT. DUNDER MIFFLIN - N166 66

Jim heads around the corner to go back to the warehouse entrance and comes upon Roy leaving Pam.

ROYSorry baby, I am just beat.

PAMIt’s okay, I’ll see you at home.

ROYOkay, don’t try to lose too much money alright?

PAMOkay.

ROYWe still want a honeymoon.

Roy sees Jim exiting the building.

ROY (CONT’D)Hey Halpert, keep an eye on her alight?

JIM(calling)

Okay. Will do.

PAM(waving)

Bye.

Roy drives off.

PAMHey.

JIM (CONT’D)Hey, how’s it going?

PAMGood. Especially after I took all your money at poker.

JIMYeah... Hey, can I talk to you about something?

Jim looks to see if the cameras are around.

PAMAbout when you want to give me more of your money? Did you want to do that now?

Pam looks at him for a moment. We really don’t know what she is thinking.

PAM What are you doing?

Jim looks at her longingly.

PAMWhat do expect me to say to that?

JIMI just needed you to know. Once.

PAMWell, I... I... I can’t...

Jim absorbs this blow.

JIM(hurt)

Yeah.

PAMYou have no idea...

JIMDon’t do that.

PAM...what your friendship means to me.

JIMCome on. I don’t want to do that. I want to be more than that.

The camera stays on Pam in the parking lot. She is clearly shaken.


Jan approaches Michael and Carol.

JANHey, I’m leaving.

MICHAELHey. Okay.

JANSo, I just wanted to congratulate you on a fantastic evening. You’ve done the company proud.

MICHAELThank you.

JANAnd thanks for inviting me. You were right, I needed it so thanks.

MICHAELOkay, thanks for coming.

JAN(to Carol)

Nice to meet you, Carol. And you guys have a good time together.

MICHAELOkay. Talk to you Monday.

JAN(walking out)

Yeah.

MICHAEL (V.O.) Love triangle. Drama. All worked out in the end though. The hero got the girl. Who saw that coming? I did. And Jan is really happy for me...

EXT. PARKING LOT - N169 69

SPY SHOT of Jan walking to her car. She cheerfully waves goodbye toward the building, but as she turns, we see that she is visibly upset. She masters it, and her face turns cold with fury. She gets into her car, and throws what looks to be an overnight bag into the back seat.

MICHAEL (V.O.)...so actually, the hero got two girls. He got the girl that he works with and he got the girl that he buys real estate from. So I got my New York girl and my local flavor.


MICHAELLife is good.

INT. OFFICE - RECEPTION AREA - D171 71

The office is empty. A few desk lamps remain lit. In the gentle illumination, we see Pam at Jim’s desk speaking quietly on the phone.

PAM(on phone)

...about ten minutes ago...No, I didn’t know what to say...Yes I know...I don’t know Mom, he’s my best friend...Yeah, he’s great...yeah, I think I am.

Jim enters from the warehouse, he sees Pam, she does not see him. Pam turns to see Jim.

PAM (CONT'D)(on phone)

Um, I have to go...I will.

She hangs up the phone. Jim moves towards Pam. Pam stands.

PAM (CONT'D)Listen, Jim...

Before she can say another word, Jim, without breaking his stride, takes her in his arms and kisses her. For a moment, she is startled, but not unwilling. She returns the kiss.

The two separate. For a moment they stand close together, connected by a stare.

Another moment goes by.
