The Hamilton Spectator asked
dozens of community leaders from all
backgrounds to weigh in on a critical
issue facing our city whether we want
a downtown casino. Councillors will vote
on the issue later this month.
We asked simply: Are you in favour
of a downtown casino? And asked them
to respond with: Yes, no, undecided
or no comment. We did not invite
further explanation. Some didnt respond
at all, while others who did not want
to take a stand chose to create
their own category: No position.
All of the opinions are reflected here.
The issue clearly has residents divided.
A recent Spectator poll showed
56 per cent of respondents opposed
a casino in Hamilton. The telephone poll
of 5,402 residents was conducted
by The Spectator in October using
an automated calling system.
The Hamilton Spectator will publish
its position in an editorial next Saturday.
