VBLOCK DRIVES ENTERPRISE CLOUD
GROWTH FOR CSC
FORTUNE 150 SYSTEMS INTEGRATOR DELIVERS CLOUD SOLUTIONS
OPTIMIZED FOR BUSINESS-CRITICAL ENTERPRISE APPLICATIONS.
Maintaining market leadership in the IT out-sourcing and cloud service business
requires IT agility and an ability to innovate. As CSC saw growing demand for IT as
a Service and pay as you go models, the company knew it would need to meet
that demand with new cloud services built on a new IT environment. A Fortune
150 company, with annual revenue of $16.2 billion, CSC had been operating 41 data
centers and providing both off-premise and on-premise solutions to companies
worldwide. To launch its new portfolio of cloud and cyber security services, CSC
needed reliable solutions from a company it could trust.
CSC realized that being able to provision new capacity and bring customers
onboard quickly would give them an important market first advantage.
However, they also knew that their cloud service customers would need a reliableinfrastructure capable of handling high numbers of transactions and large amounts
of data. Because the system would host SAP, Oracle, Exchange and other enterprise
applications, they needed the highest levels of security and availability. CSC would
be locating new service centers in several countries and realized that a standardized
infrastructure would offer significant business benefit.
The Vblock Systems offered rapid deployment and provisioning
in a family of products that could scale as the business grew. The
platform is optimized to deliver performance at scale for mission
critical workloads and offers industry leading data protection
solutions. Now, CSC relies on the Vblock System to provide trusted
cloud services that deliver on the as a service promise to
reduce customer risk and improve business agility.

President, Cloud Computing
and Software Services CSC
The Challenge
CSC had been integrating multi-vendor
infrastructures in-house to meet the
demanding SLAs of its clients hosted
applications. While this business model
worked well for traditional outsourcing,
it was becoming clear that it would not
work for the new CloudCompute andBizCloud business.
The cloud services value proposition
would include very rapid on-
boarding of new customers, tailored
cloud solutions, and compliance
with in-country data governance
requirements, along with management
and automation capabilities that
would dramatically improve
application operations.
To accomplish this, CSC needed a new
infrastructureone that was purpose-
built for cloud deployments and would
enable them to rapidly scale and
provision new services to clients.
The Solution
After evaluating solutions from several
competitors, CSC standardized on
Vblock systems as the foundation of
its CloudCompute and CSC BizCloud
solutions. CloudCompute is a standard
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) in
all CSC cloud data centers and serves
as the IaaS layer of CSC BizCloud.
The ease with which Vblock system
capacity can be provisioned and
reclaimed ensures that this innovative
private cloud solution can be rapidly
deployed on a customers premises
and billed as a service.
The Vblock systems are uniquely
capable of supporting highly
virtualized mixed workload, multi-
tenant environments. From redundantcontrollers and integrated patch
release to industry-leading data
protection products, Vblock systems
are designed to deliver the highest
levels of availability.
Business-critical enterprise applications,
including SAP, Oracle, Microsoft
Exchange, and SharePoint, run on
the Vblock systems to provide CSCs
clients with superior performance,
availability, data protection and
scalability in the cloud. The Vblock
systems provide CSCs clients with
elastic pools of computing and storage
optimized for enterprise, custom, and
vertical applications running business-critical workloads.
The Results
With Vblock systems, CSC gains secure
and predictable performance through
pre-engineered, modular infrastructures
that enable standardized processes
and operations. This provides CSC with
faster development and deployment
of applications, improved utilization,
and lower operational costs, along with
substantial competitive advantages:
Because Vblock systems are pre-
integrated and pre-tested, CSC can roll
out complete cloud infrastructures in
just 10 weeks, enabling them to attract
new accounts and increase the new
business pipeline by more than 500
percent in just eight months.
Because VCE systems are standardized
CSC can easily package additional
software capabilities and expand
its market to new geos through third
party channels.
Vblock systems deliver the performance
and capacity for CSCs demanding
enterprise applications while meeting
the clouds data residency and data
latency requirements.
CSC can confidently offer competitive
service-level agreements (SLAs)
with full monetary recourse for its
cloud solutions.
CSC now has the largest cloud footprin
of any cloud provider with capabilities
on 4 continents.
Looking ahead, CSC is assured its

reliable and efficient growth for its
