BackgroundHess Natur is an eco-riendly mail-order company and the market

leader in the natural textiles market in the German-speaking countries.

In 2007 the company opened a prestigious store with 600 m2 oor

space spread over two oors in the vicinity o Hamburgs Europa

Passage shopping mall. Here, it sells eco-riendly and air-trade clothing

as well as shoes, home urnishing abrics and natural cosmetics.

The challengeThe new shop had to reect Hess Naturs high environmental

standards. The interior design is based on natural materials and

colours, creating a sense o warmth and o being close to nature.

A sustainable lighting solution was required that would support the

interior design concept. It had to be energy-efcient and climate-

neutral, and output was not to exceed 50 W per m 2 o shop oor.

On top o that, excellent colour rendering was a must in order to

really bring out the colours and textures o the abrics.

The solutionIt was decided to use MASTERColour CDM-Tm lamps renowned

or their excellent colour rendering and thereore ideal or lighting

ashion outlets in a variety o luminaires which also oer highly

efcient optics and control gear. In the salesroom, UnicOne projectors

with 20 W lamps are attached to a power rail. UnicOne projectors are

also used in the shop window, together with lateral lighting rom

Fugato Micro downlights. The latter are also used in the changing

rooms, where their excellent colour rendering enables customers

    to assess the merchandise eectively.

In the area around the entrance and the cash desks, hand-fnished

abric luminaires with integrated downlights create colourul accents.

Rotaris luminaires with a wood fnish provide uniorm general lighting

and tie in well with the natural materials and colours in the rest o the

space. Surace-mounted Fugato luminaires and downlights have been

    installed to highlight specifc accessories.

BeneftsThe lighting concept has helped create an atmosphere in which

customers eel comortable and enjoy taking their time to browse.

Merchandise is displayed to optimum eect: the texture, colour and

natural quality o the abrics are brought out by the excellent colour

    rendering o the lighting.

At the same time, the use o low-wattage, energy-efcient lamps in

combination with state-o-the-art luminaires (output around 35 W

per m2) ensures responsible resource management. The limited heat

generation also means the store can manage without additional

    climate-control equipment.

Attractive and sustainablelighting for pure, natural clothing

We see the salesroom as one complete system that we

have to run in a sustainable manner. Thanks to the lighting

rom Philips we can present our merchandise in an

    appealing way.
