Our process began with an extensive strategic marketing plan for Basketball Queensland. It was followed up with ongoing support to enhance engagement and drive participation growth for Basketball Queensland and its governed associations. Our process covers nine primary elements:

OUR PROCESS

Basketball Queensland first approached Outsource2Us in late 2014 to work with their board to create a strategy for their social media. For a year, Outsource2Us managed their social media and content writing until January 2016, at which time Outsource2Us came on board as their full-time Marketing Department.

OVERVIEW

Basketball Queensland is the peak governing body for basketball in Queensland. It is committed to delivering outstanding competitions, development programs and high-level governance for more than 40,000 basketball players, coaches, officials and administrators across Queensland. They have 37 affiliated member associations across the state, encompassing regional

areas from North Queensland to Mount Isa and right through to the Gold Coast and Southern Downs. Throughout each year, they organise year-round competition and development calendars which allow opportunities and pathways for new, developing and elite players of all ages.

For these competitive events, a large part of the support we provide is social media coverage throughout each day of the competition. This usually includes 3-4 posts plus Instagram stories, action photography, videography and sending out surveys.

We also provide event marketing support for Basketball Queensland’s annual conference, annual awards evening and biannual hall of fame dinner. For these events, we manage the event marketing entirely, to ensure that the event is well advertised and promoted in the weeks leading up to it. We provide all event presentation collateral, as well as graphic design services to create banners, and event reminders.

• Their 2 four-day state championships and 2 five-day state championships,

• The QBL grand finals weekend,

• The BQJBC grand finals,

• As well as, numerous coaching and high-performance events.

Outsource2Us provides social media and general marketing support for all of Basketball Queensland’s major competitions, such as:

EVENT SUPPORT / MANAGEMENT

We provide top level strategic planning and advice to Basketball Queensland, which includes our Marketing Director attending Board Meetings, and providing marketing direction and insight. In addition to this strategic guidance, each year, Outsource2Us creates

a strategic marketing plan, which encompasses the marketing activities and plans outlined for the coming year. These include event management, social media, content creations and the digital marketing plan and budget.

STRATEGIC PLANNING

ON-SITE SUPPORT

With Basketball Queensland governing 37 associations across the State and their constant stream of competitions, they require consistent and on-demand marketing support. Which is why Outsource2Us works on-site three and a half days a week, as this enables us to provide the most comprehensive support possible. Working on-site also allows us to build rapport and,

more importantly, a close working relationship with Basketball Queensland. It ensures that any and all tasks are completed efficiently by cutting out the ‘middleman’ of exchanging emails and phone calls. It also gives us a greater understanding of the needs and goals of the organisation, ensuring that all the support we provide is well tailored to their needs.

Outsource2Us provides an all-inclusive social media management strategy that includes the management of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube. We create relevant content for each of these platforms and post on them with consistency. Basketball Queensland requires a specific management when it comes to social media and is different to most other businesses due to the high volume of ad hoc social media content required on a daily basis. Many of the posts and announcements made are decided on shortly before they must be posted and therefore need to be completed on the spot. To combat this, we work on a weekly social media plan to keep up with the ever-changing content that is required.

Most weeks, the content posted on social media far outweighs the amount of content planned for the week. The posts that we make for Basketball Queensland range from athlete team announcements to event related materials, including many promotional posts to bolster interest in upcoming events. We also keep everyone up to date with general updates, competitions and event info for coaches and referees. This information is broadcasted to an immense follower base, including over fourteen thousand followers on Facebook and seven thousand on Instagram. Our social media strategy also keeps all members of Basketball Queensland updated with key information and announcements as soon as they arise.

The biggest element of our contributions to Basketball Queensland is the content that is created for all aspects of their marketing. The content we create can be summed up into three main categories – content writing, email marketing and photo/videography.

In terms of content writing, Outsource2Us writes four to five blogs per month on a wide array of topics. These topics can include team announcements, athlete updates, and informative pieces on the athletes, as well as highlight articles on these athletes, coaching and refereeing updates, updates on the high-performance programs, and general basketball and sporting content. We also write end-of-season and competition wrap-up articles using terminology to give all involved members a more comprehensive article. All of this written content is also optimised for SEO, or search engine optimisation, to enhance Basketball Queensland’s ranking with Google as to appear more frequently to any interested participants.

Email marketing is still one of the best ways to spread information on a digital medium, so we take careful steps to guarantee that this section is well covered. Our email marketing provides a bimonthly newsletter that includes updates from all key business sections including general Basketball Queensland updates that apply to all members of Basketball Queensland, high performance updates, coaching and refereeing

updates, and information about upcoming and past competitions. This newsletter also contains six brand new articles in every issue, as we are committed to not reuse any of the old content to keep the content fresh and interesting. Newsletters are also tailored to the recipient of the letter to give a more personalised experience to each one of the sixty thousand email subscribers.

An invaluable and significant part of the content created for Basketball Queensland falls under the categories of photography and videography. During each of the four separate four-day state championships we provide a daily recap video for each day of the competition. The videos are released within approximately 16 hours of the competition ending. Still within the realm of videography, many videos are also made to support the social media content. These videos are often a clip interviewing a range of athletes on their way to a state championship or another related competition. Most of the photography we do is event photography. At events such as QBL championships or State Championships, we provide both high quality live action shots, as well as candid courtside shots of athletes in the moment. We also provide event photography for the Basketball Queensland awards nights, and athlete headshots for the High-Performance department.

When it comes to graphic design, consistency is key. We have done countless graphic design projects for Basketball Queensland to date and strive to continue to improve our work wherever possible. These graphic design endeavours include everything from pull up banners to sponsorship documents and annual reports. Other tasks include A1 sized competition result posters, flyers for coaching, high performance programs, and other specific topics. We focus on making sure that at all times the graphic design on all

of Basketball Queensland’s material is not only relevant but also on-brand and consistent in the look and feel.

In 2019, we did a full refresh on the QBL competition brand. QBL is one of the biggest basketball leagues in Queensland and as such needs an up to date and professional looking branding to keep up an air of professionalism and prevent the content from becoming too boring or stale.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

Website management is not a ‘set and forget’ kind of deal, as websites need to constantly be updated and expanded; a good website is never truly complete. Over the past four years, we have created and managed four websites for Basketball Queensland. Keeping these up to date doesn’t just mean updating the content, but also updating the imagery to keep the site from becoming outdated. We created and currently still maintain both the Basketball Queensland

website as well as the website for QBL and the OwnUrGoal website. Both of these sites are monitored closely and continually expanded to incorporate the most effective and relevant modern marketing trends. Furthermore, a Basketball Queensland app was developed by Outsource2Us in an attempt compile all relevant information into a single place, as well as assist in going completely paperless and keep up our bid to be more economically friendly.

WEBSITE MANAGEMENT

The internet is the most important and useful tool to find any information in the world, therefore being found on these platforms should be paramount to any digital marketing strategy. We help to improve these chances using SEO and Google Advertising. While working with Basketball Queensland we built a list of key words that would help any searches relating to

potential participants to find Basketball Queensland by making Basketball Queensland appear higher in their search list. Outsource2Us also runs a comprehensive Google Advertising campaign, which allows potential players to be put directly in contact with their local associations.

The KPI’s for Basketball Queensland are

primarily participant growth and engagement on social media, both of which show an upward trend in recent years.
