Project Summary Presiditential Flight, originally known as “Royal Flight” was first established in 1975 under the pri-vate department of H. H. the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. This was renamed to “Amiri Flight” and was later changed to “Presidential Flight” from 16 February, 2009. The construction of the new hangar was to acommodate two A380 aircrafts, as the existing hangar did not allow such a provision.The project called for a new installation of LED High Bay Lights along with external lights that include Apron Lighting, Façade Lighting and Street Lighting for the new hangar. This project was a complete turnkey solution inclusive of Lighting Consultancy, Supply, Installation as well as Commissioning for the green initiative driven by Presidential Flight.To acheive this green initiative, GigaTera focussed on a solution that minimed energy consump-tion, number of luminires and providing outstanding light quality in the form of professional lighting consultancy that would not only focus on the importance of such a hangar, but also the effect it would have on the environment, as required by Estidama.With the prime importance of the hangar, the team at Presidential Flight opted to go for a solu-tion that was proven for quality, reliability and performance.
Results & BenefitsWith requirements for significant improvements in energy savings compared to conventional lighting, especially in a hangar of high importance, high quality LED luminaires to offer superior reliability was proposed. Upon analyzing the results after installing 154 units of SEGA-500W LED High Bay for the Hangar, 19 units of MAHA-400W for Apron Lighting, 9 units of META-100W and 3 units of META-130W for Street Lighting as well as 93 units of WAPA-50W and 7 units of WAPA-100W for Façade Lighting, the ovarall illuminance was increased significantly. This new installation has enhanced visibility and high energy savings of the hangar compared to the previous existing hangar.
1) Thanks to the minimized glare offered by GigaTera LED Luminaires, the working environment inside the hangar has significantly been improved.2) Due to the asymmetric beam profile of the apron lighting luminaries, the amount of glare on an aircraft’s approach has been greatly minimized.
On achieving significant illumination and energy savings, the installation clearly desmonstrates the benefit of using GigaTera LED. Presidential Flight is greatly impressed with GigaTera’s professional and complete hangar solu-tion.
