Funding Your ProjectEnergy Grant 500Through Business Support Kent, SEEDA are offering Energy Grant 500 to help small businesses. The project is designed to raise awareness of energy usage in the business. It provides a grant of up to £500 to implement changes that will result in reduced energy costs and a smaller carbon footprint. The current project is accepting applications up to the end of August 2011.

The Carbon Trust offer interest free energy efficiency loans to replace or upgrade your existing equipment with a more energy efficient alternative. We are able to make the applications on behalf of our customers thus simplifying the process. Loans of between £3,000 and £250,000 are available to SME’s.

• We have over the last year enabled more than 70 local businesses to upgrade their lighting, make them more energy efficient, using Energy Grant 500.

• Businesses have been able to improve their lighting as well as save money straight off their bottom line.

• Businesses of various sizes have used the funding in a number of ways.

Delicatessen and Wine Shop in Arundel – Installation of new track LED lighting including additional lights, retrofitted high frequency adapters and T5 tubes to update their existing T8 fluorescent lighting, and replaced all their Halogen lighting with good quality LED lighting.

Health Club in Worthing – We converted all their fluorescent lighting using high frequency adapters throughout the site, and replaced all their Halogen downlighters with good quality LEDs.

Metal fabrication Company in Newhaven – we converted all their T8 fluorescent lighting using high frequency adapters and T5 tubes, we also converted their 400w Sodium Hi Bay lighting using 250w Compact Fluorescents.

We recently completed a project at an electronics manufacturing company in Chichester, using high frequency adapters to convert over 600 T8/T12 fluorescent tubes to T5. This project included specialist coloured lighting in several of their manufacturing areas to eliminate UV light.

The Carbon Trust loan process was simple and timely.

Annual savings are predicted to be

90,800 kwh of electricity = 48 tonnes of Co2 = £6460

For public sector – for example, Schools, Colleges, Local Council buildings etc there is assistance available from Salix Finance.

We recently completed an installation at a College in Southampton, converting over 1300 T8 fluorescent tubes to T5 using high frequency adapters. This was funded by an interest free loan managed by Salix Finance.
