THE REQUIREMENTS

THE SOLUTION

The governing body of care homes assesses and scores all homes on the qualityof the facilities that they provide, such as cleanliness, hospitality, standard of careand this assessment also includes health and safety, plus site mobility. Whilst HarriasHouse had exemplary scores in other areas, the pathways in the gardens were constructed with York stone which although aesthetically pleasing, proved verydifficult for wheelchair users to transverse, and almost impossible for residents andvisitors with Zimmer frames to navigate. The naturally riven surface of the flag stonesmeant that tripping and falls were a serious problem.

With the home firmly focused on the welfare of its residents and visitors, the decision was made to replace the main paved areas. The requirements were for asurface that maintained the look and prestige of the York stone but was smooth, wouldn’t be prone to ‘puddling’ and could be enjoyed for years to come withoutreplacement.

With DekorGrip’s Resin Bound system chosen and the requirements of Harrias Housesatisfied, DekorBound was laid a depth of 18mm using a bespoke blend created especiallyfor the project by the DekorGrip Mixing Team, called Sandleheath.

This unique blend matched perfectly with the new brick borders that were installed aspart of the project and helped maintain the air of exclusivity that Harrias House has.

Gradings from the governing body have increasedand the residents love the new surface – oneresident has even left a legacy to the homein their will to cover the costs of another250m2 of DekorBound, such was theimpression made by thesurface.
