Case Study #6 – Project Management Experience

Role : Project Manager

Company : GME Technical, Petaling Jaya

Description :

1) I was assigned as project manager during my 6 months internship program at the company.2) 3 new tasks were at the 1st month of my internship and an additional task was given every single month thereafter no matter the previous tasks are completed on time or not to test our project managing skill.3) Resources (3 trainees including myself)4) Time given to complete those tasks is negotiable.

Tools Used : Gmail, MSN

Accomplishments :

1. 3 different tasks of different nature and different programming languages were given at the beginning of my project management period.2. One of them requires a programmer to work remotely at a Japanese factory based in Shah Alam, modifying their existing application to keep up with the factory’s demand.3. Another requires a programmer to create a brand new application that interfaces with current SMS services in the market.4. On the other hand, I was managing Bubu Resort’s case while monitoring the progress of these 2 tasks.

Strategies:

1) Sent in an email to the director of my internship company WAY BEFORE the internship program was started to highlight my strength and my weaknesses.2) A coding task was given to me at the start of my internship program and I proposed otherwise. (Bubu Resort was handed down to me specifically because I have the digital marketing skills that company currently does not possess)3) Managed the projects base on this principle. (Time Knob, Money Knob and People Knob)4) When time is an issue, turn on money or people know to fasten the pace of project completion. When Money is an issue, turn on either time knob or people knob to complete the project in time. When people knob is an issue, turn on the time knob and money knob to ensure project is completed smoothly.5) Posses my own resources outside the resources given by the company. (Designers, coders, software/tools, and knowledge)6) Focus on productivity and efficiency rather than working hours. (Started out working 8 hours a day on the 1st month of internship program, then an hour a day for the rest of my 4 months in the company.

1. Use Time, Money and People knob strategy.

2. From working 8 hours a day to an hour a day for the rest of my 4 months in the company.

3. Productivity boost of 1000%

4. Internship program result = A-

Page 10: Case studies

7) Indentify KEY judgment areas of internship results and work on the tasks accordingly. 8) Develop great relationship with the director and the rest of the staff of the company.9) Waste no time to improve myself in each different area of skills. (Web Analytics, Conversion Optimization and Marketing Strategies)10) Always Over delivers. I give 110% in anything I do. No excuses.

Results:

1. I started out working 8 hours a day on the 1st month of internship program, then an hour a day for the rest of my 4 months in the company.2. Productivity boost of 1000%3. Internship program result = A-
