Indra Nooyi Leadership style

OverviewPepsiCos Chief Executive Officer and Chairman is Indra Nooyi. The company controls 22 brands globally. The company brings in $66 billion annually. The company is currently run by a woman, Mrs. Nooyi, a rarity in the business world. She brings her own values and ethics to the company. She imagined and created PepsiCos Performance with Purpose. She has helped to acquire some of PepsiCos biggest acquisitions in history. One of the issues she faces as the CEO is that she is a woman in a world notoriously run by men. Discussion QuestionsThe leadership style that Mrs. Nooyi brought to her position as CEO is the Democratic leadership style. Indra came to the United States from India, she worked hard to achieve success and to become a nationalized citizen. Her personality suggests that she wants others to share in her success. She brings this value to her work, before making a decision she would take into account the opinions and thoughts of her peers. Through research it is found that Indra uses a 5 Cc model of leadership: competency, courage, confidence, communication skills, and compass. This model of leadership helps to support the belief that she uses a Democratic leadership style. Her leadership style provides many advantages to the PepsiCo Company. Since Indra became CEO of the Pepsi Company, the companys annual revenue has risen by 72% and in 2006 net profit more than doubled, according to Business Week Magazine. Indra has made considerable efforts in building strong relationships with her peers and partners within the company. This has allowed her to open avenues of communication throughout the world. Which allows for further expansion of the company, cost cutting manufacturing, an overall improvement of their products, and a stronger and better run business. It is stated in the research that Indra has a strong moral compass and a strong code of ethics. This means that she runs the PepsiCo Company without corruption and with values that allow for diversity both within the product and in the work place. Indra has made an impact on the business world as CEO of PepsiCo. In this day and age it is still a difficult feat for a woman to become CEO of a company. According to Forbes magazine this is because sexism is still in the work force. Women are not treated the same as a man and therefore have to work harder than a man to become CEO. There are many stereotypes that keep women from being taken seriously, including the fact that they are to seen to have more personal and social responsibilities than a man (Forbes). Indra is very successful at her job and has been recognized many times for her achievements. Research shows that companies run by females perform better than the same type of company ran by a man, according to the research proposal, The Future of Female CEOS and Their Glass Ceiling. Part of the reason for this is because women tend to treat employees better, which keeps employees happy. DebriefingWomen are shown to run more profitable companies; we can see this in all the success that Indra has had in the past decade that she has run PepsiCo. She has helped bring in some of the biggest acquisitions in PepsiCo history. She runs a company catering to the people and the environment, encouraging good communication, positive relationships, and diversity. Knowing all of this, women still only make up seven percent of the leaders in the business world according to Entrepreneur. Women do not advocate for other women out of fear that if they do it will reinforce the negative stereotypes about women. Indra is quoted in an article by Neil Schoenherr as wanting to break through the glass ceiling and helping other women succeed. Helping women reach the top is beneficial to all in business, they bring in a new perspective and they are shown to run more profitable businesses.
