Louisiana Purchase  

     Have you ever heard of the Louisiana Purchase? Well, in 1803, Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisiana purchase for 15 million dollars. So now, our country would be bigger. If it wasn't for Thomas Jefferson, our country would probably be a lot smaller. 

  

Lewis & Clark      With the new land purchased and unexplored Thomas Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore. Their journey began May 14, 1804. Not to long into their journey, they met a woman named sacagawea, she helped the young explorers along the way, she was a big help in Lewis and Clark’s long journey. They also met 

a lot of Native Americans, they traded things to make peace with them. In November 1805, they made it to the Pacific Ocean. After their long walk home, they made it back to St. Louis on September 23, 1806. Their mission was a success, and it would always be remembered.  

Moving West      After Lewis & Clark got back from their long journey, people began moving to the western region. It was very challenging, but those people did not stop. Most people left in the spring so there would be less storms. These people took a trail to get to the west, that trail was called the Oregon Trail. This pathway started in Independence, Missouri. These people there so they can live in a better place, so after Lewis and Clark returned, people left to make a amazing visit.   

The Oregon Trail      Have you ever heard of the Oregon Trail? Well the Oregon Trail was a very famous trail back in the 1800’s. 

After Lewis and Clark got back from their journey, people made their way to the west to live happier lives.Their are lots more facts to share about the Oregon Trail, keep reading to find out      The Oregon Trail was one of the longest pathways ever created, it was trail where people went to the west to live happier lives. It goes through six different states, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho, and Oregon. There were a lot of bad things that happened along the way, 20,000 died, lots didnt make it, it snowed five feet one night. Probably the saddest thing of all was that some people.. had to eat their own kids to stay alive. “ It was one of the craziest things I have ever seen.” one of the survivors said. The whole trip was hard.      The Oregon Trail was a wagon trail. The famous pathway stretched 2,170 people in the 1800’s traveled through it to get to the west. “The trail was long, journey hard, death violent.” Jim Partanz said, he was one of the survivors. Lots of Indians lived along the trail, so people had to make peace with them by trading stuff. In 1849, more than 20,000 people left to go to the west. Some people wanted to get a head start and left in the winter, the snow made them pay the price. About 300 miles of the 

trail remains today , and some still walk on it today, to try and imagine how it was like.         Little kids from 6­8 years old were struggling through mud and snow, those little kids having to walk 2,170 miles, with only a couple breaks a day. Some people who did not make peace with the Indians had to fight them to stay alive. Some died because of that, but some did make it, there was a lot of success.       The Oregon Trail impacted the Western expansion in many ways. It had been a pathway for more than 100,000 people to get to the west. Lots of people had to finish their lives one that trail, some got to discover better lives. Some people went to see their family, some went to live in better places. The pathway helped their lives to become better. The Oregon Trail has changed the country, if it hadn't been created our country probably wouldn't be how it was today it was today
