INTRODUCTION
ASHRAE Standard 90.1-1999 (2001) defines minimum efficiency requirements for HVAC equipment. This paper is designed to assist to help you find the right Carrier product necessary to meet those requirements. ASHRAE Standard 90.1 defines minimum efficiency requirements in a series of tables in Section 6.2, Mandatory Provisions.

Tables 6.2.1A through 6.2.1G define requirements
for equipment that are rated in accordance with an established test procedure. Equipment not listed in the ASHRAE Standard 90.1 tables have no minimum performance requirements. HOW TO USE THIS REFERENCE This paper is divided into two parts. Part 1 is a cross-reference between the ASHRAE Standard 90.1 requirements (including current addenda) and Carrier products. Efficiency requirements are grouped and referenced as they are in Tables 6.2.1A through 6.2.1G of the standard. The specific efficiency requirement for each equipment type, size category, and subcategory is presented as a heading to a table that lists the Carrier products meeting that requirement. An example is shown in Figure 1 below. Part 2 of this paper is a reference guide to Carrier commercial products that meet ASHRAE Standard 90.1. The 1999 publication of ASHRAE Standard 90.1 indicated two efficiency requirements: the first labeled �Minimum Efficiency,� and the second labeled, �Efficiency as of 10/29/01.� All equipment manufactured after October 29, 2001, must meet the

second requirement. Equipment manufactured before October 29, 2001 must meet the first requirement, even if it is installed after the indicated date. In most tables, addenda to the standard have deleted the time distinction, and now show only the requirement for equipment after October 29, 2001, labeled �Minimum Efficiency�. This document follows the pattern of the amended ASHRAE tables, showing only one column labeled �Minimum Efficiency.� In all cases, the minimum efficiency indicated is for equipment manufactured after October 29, 2001. If multiple performance requirements are listed, the equipment must meet all requirements unless otherwise exempted by footnotes in the table. To find the available equipment options, begin by determining the requirement from the appropriate table (or amended table) in ASHRAE Standard 90.1. Next, enter the Part 1 Cross-Reference of this paper by finding the same ASHRAE Standard 90.1 table number, equipment type, size category, and subcategory. The Carrier equipment options are listed in order of model number with a short description of the product. After each listed Carrier product there is a page number that indicates where to find more information in the Part 2 Reference Guide. In Part 2, the Reference Guide is arranged by model number and presents a brief snapshot of the product including expanded efficiency information, major features, and options. In each case, the current applicable Carrier catalog is listed. Please refer to the catalog for a more complete description of the features, benefits, and options of each product. REFERENCE GUIDE Every effort has been made to present the most up to date information in the Reference Guide to Carrier Commercial Products. But, because Carrier continually improves its products, model specifications and designs may be changed or discontinued at any time without notice or obligation. The most up to date product catalogs and literature are always available from your local Carrier sales representative, or at Carrier�s web site, http://www.commercial.carrier.com. This document is updated regularly. The Features and Options listed in the Reference Guide are a sampling of the many standard attributes,
factory-installed options and field-installed accessories available. To obtain a complete description of all features and options for a specific model, please review the listed catalog, or consult your local Carrier sales representative. In all cases, performance data listed are for 60 Hz products at ARI standard conditions. DEFINITIONS The following definitions are taken from ASHRAE Standard 90.1-1999 (2001). Coefficient of performance (COP) – cooling: the ratio of the rate of heat removal to the rate of energy input, in consistent units, for a complete refrigerating system or some specific portion of that system under designated operating conditions. Coefficient of performance (COP), heat pump – heating: the ratio of the rate of heat delivered to the rate of energy input, in consistent units, for a complete heat pump system, including the compressor and, if applicable, auxiliary heat, under designated operating conditions. Energy efficiency ratio (EER): the ratio of net cooling capacity in Btu/h to the total rate of electric input in watts under designated operating conditions. Heating seasonal performance factor (HSPF): the total heating output of a heat pump during its normal annual usage period for heating (in Btu) divided by the total electric energy input during the same period. Integrated part-load value (IPLV): a single-number figure of merit based on part-load EER, COP, or kW/ton, expressing part-load efficiency for air-conditioning and heat pump equipment on the basis of weighted operation at various load capacities for the equipment. NAECA: National Appliance Energy Conservation Act of 1987. Seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER): the total cooling output of an air conditioner during its normal annual usage period for cooling (in Btu) divided by the total electric energy input during the same period (in watt-hours).
