CARNIVAL IN PUTIGNANO

The colors, sounds, emotions of the Masked Carnival parade in Putignano carve imagination . Three Sundays at breathless speed between floats, character masks and masked groups, with the final at night Shrove Tuesday. The cannival floats are made entirely of paper mache that bring to the stage national and international events. Major themes are tied to politics and current affairs, solidarity and morality.

They are really works of art. Besides the floats, there are the Masked parades Masks are of character, the witty satire of them is directed to the local administrative and political life. In the carnival parade there are the masked groups, which present authentic shows through costumes, music and choreography designed for the occasion.

+Palio del Viccio – Palo del Colle

+The Palio of Viccio, which in local dialect means turkey, takes place every Shrove Tuesday in Palo del Colle.The Palio is an ancient competition between riders who represent the districts of the country, to win the Palio riders should stick a spear into a small bag full of water, suspended at several meters in height from one balcony to another. Riders must show that they have great ability to be able to hit the bag so high, and have to ride almost standing.  

+Once the show was very bloody, instead of the bag there was a real turkey, today only the beauty of a real race remains, where participants demonstrate skill and courage. The evening after the competition, the festival continues with a real menu of turkey in the food stands in the square, floats and masked groups, as in the best traditions of Carnival.
