Outside
utside the incorporation of traditional materials further endorses the country
house character and allows Carmen Lodge to sit easily into its rural setting. The
use of natural slate on both the main house and stable yard roofs, a stone finish
to the outbuildings and entrance splay and granite sills and terraces around the house all
contributing to the easy relationship between the house and its setting.
A short distance from the house lies a most attractive stable yard which includes 7
looseboxes, a feed and tack room with an adjoining car port, all finished in Liscannor
stone and easily accessible to the nearby paddocks. Numerous exterior lights facilitate
winter or night time work. The paddocks are all well fenced with post and rails or mature
hedging, have water laid on and benefit from tree planting, with some beech, oak,
mountain ash, crab apple and hornbeam varieties complimenting the existing stands of
timber that protect the boundary and dot adjacent pasture. The property also has the
benefit of an outdoor all weather floodlit arena (40m x 30m). A gravelled avenue lined
with lime trees leads from the public road, through an attractive stone entrance splay
with electric security gates.
