Term One Week 2 Thursday 7 February, 2019 Dear Parents and Carers Enrolment & Classes 2019 A miracle happened this week with unknown enrolments coming through the door that allowed us to keep our 33 classes with 828 students. Last Friday afternoon we had 820 enrolments so based on previous years it seemed highly unlikely we would reach the enrolment numbers we needed. Based on this information we restructured into a 32 class format on Monday February 4 so that we could commence the year in our new classes. Surprisingly and unexpectedly we had 8 new enrolments in the last two days which means we have reached the magic number. Today was the official day to log in enrolments to the Department. On Monday February 11 we will move some of the Stage 3 children and form a 5/6 class as originally planned. Mr Jackson Beardsley will be the Year 5/6 class teacher. There will be no more restructures this year. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Also, we have had a few teachers needing to commence work late this year due to illness or injury. We are expecting all staff to recover and be back at work by the commencement of Week 4. To develop this shared understanding our Parent Teacher Information Evenings will be in Week 5. These meetings will outline in more detail the class and stage arrangements for the year, major events your child will participate in, syllabus requirements and homework expectations among other topics. It is important that parents establish early contact with the class teacher to ensure good communication and a smooth start to the new school year. In circumstances where parents or teachers need to share personal information, an additional time should be arranged early in the term to do this. Term One Week 2 Thursday 7 February, 2019

P&C Meeting P&C meetings are held in Week 3 & 7 of each term commencing 7pm in the staffroom. I look forward to meeting as many parents as possible as we venture into a new and exciting year of learning. In this meeting and possibly through a survey I will be asking parents what topics they would like the school to offer as parent workshops throughout the year. Sometime in Term One I’ll organise a morning workshop on Cyberbullying. Also, Mrs Milner will present a “Best Start workshop” for the parents of students who are in Kindergarten. The workshop will take place on Friday 22 February in the staffroom at 9.15am. She will be discussing the Best Start assessment, how it will be used and the Best Start report you will receive. Incredible Generosity and Community Support A massive thank you to Mr Igor and Zak Cvetkoski for their amazing support. They have donated:

22 rugby league jerseys

110 soccer jerseys (girls and boys) 22 Oztag jerseys

36 netball shirts

80 softball jerseys (boys and girls) 48 cricket shirts

These products are valued at over $6000 and they have offered to deliver new outfits each year. Mr Igor and Zak Cvetkoski are proud parents of our school community and felt a need to support our school. Their generosity is greatly appreciated. We will be meeting and thanking them at our whole school assembly on Monday.

Congratulations Congratulations and a huge

thank you to the P&C who coordinated a wonderful Tea ‘n’ Tissues morning for our new Kindergarten parents. Thanks for making everyone feel welcome to our School!

On Tuesday 26 February, 2019, the school will be holding the Swimming Carnival at Bexley’s Angelo Anestis Aquatic

Students who are participating in race events must be entered into each race by completing the separate

entry form understanding and meeting the following conditions:

Parents must complete the permission slip for their child to participate in the events and sign the consent form to verify the child’s ability to swim 50m competitively.

Entry forms were handed out at House meetings directly to students that indicate this ability to swim 50m competitively. Alternatively you can ask Mrs Hanley or the front office for an entry form.

Completed entry forms can be handed in to the front office or to Mrs Hanley. As this event will be held early in the new school term and the nominated, competitive events are based

upon the number of entrants, we require all entry forms by Wednesday 20 February, 2019.

All students who are participating in race events will be required to wear a coloured arm band for the entire day. These will be provided by the school. If they do not have the arm band and have not completed the entry form, students will not be able to enter any events.

Finals for freestyle events only will be held, if required, upon completion of the freestyle events. All students will need to be at school by 8:45am for roll call as the buses will be departing promptly at 9:00am and are

expected to attend on the day, even if they are not competing. These students will have the opportunity to participate in

novelty events and be a part of the cheer squad. Children will be expected to wear school sports uniform, a school hat and

sunscreen. All children should bring their recess, lunch, drinks, towel, swimmers and a bottle of water. Students will return
