Dear Residents, Families, Friends and Staff,

Are you ready to begin a new year?  I hope so, because it’s coming.  It seems like it wasjust the beginning of 2019.  I am looking forward to this new year and what it can bring tous.  It’s a fresh beginning to make this year what we want it to be.  Remember to be kind toothers and enjoy your life to the fullest.

A very big thank you to all of the residents, families, and of course our fabulous staff whoreally got into the spirit of the holidays.  It made our holiday season all the more delightful.A big thank you goes out to all of the staff who went above and beyond to make ourcommunity not only look and feel beautiful , but truly bring the magic of the season to thecommunity.  If I may say so myself the decorations looked amazing and every morningwhen I would walk into the community they made me smile.

A special thank you to Linda Jenkins and her team of residents that managed the StaffHoliday Fund.  I know it is a lot of work.  A very big thank you for the generosity of theresidents and their families who contributed to the Staff Holiday Fund.    We have amazingstaff who come to work every day to care and enrich the lives of our residents.  The staffappreciate your kindness more than you know.  All of us truly come to work each daybecause we  love what we do.  It is a blessing to be able to spend our days with all of you.Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing your lives with us.

As we start yet another year, we naturally start to think about resolutions and goals for theupcoming year. I am reminded when setting specific goals, don't make them too big andmake sure they are able to be achieved.  My goal for the Carlton Sacramento Campus in2020 is to continue to enrich the lives of all of our residents, provide them with lots of love,much happiness, and honor them with the best life.

This past year may have been a difficult one for many.  As we look forward to 2020 withrenewed optimism, may we decide to make ourselves better despite the world eventsaround us.  May we all consider ways we can make ourselves and our communitiesstronger and better.  May we recommit to our loved ones and families and may we all worktogether to make 2020 happier and healthier for all of us.

As the new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, our book, waiting to be written, Ihope your chapter titled 2020 is filled with new experiences, lots of love and much joy.

Frances Rubalcaba was born June 4th1926 in Merced. Growing up on a farm,she was close to her grandmother. She isthe oldest of eight children.During her teenage years she playedbaseball for school.For many yeas she worked for HewlettPackard, and schooled to become anursing assistant, along with working forSears, JC Penny and owned a ceramichobby shop.Frances has three daughters, sixgrandchildren, and six greatgrandchildren.

Please Meet Margaret Rakuita!!Margaret is from the Fiji Islands and migratedhere to the U.S. in 2018. She is 23 years andmarried with three kids ages 10, 8 , and 6months old. Margaret has been a compassionatecaregiver ever since she looked after hergrandparents until they passed away. She cameto work for Carlton because she loves to lookafter seniors, and it is also within walkingdistance from home. She graduated with anAssociate Degree in Information Systems. Herhobbies are reading, traveling, and meeting newpeople. We are happy to have her at ourcommunity.

New Residents

Ellen Pontac was born in Southern California, Hollywood.She had 2 brothers, Perry is her brother she is very closewith. Ann Crane is a close friend.

She spent her teenage years in Glendale. She went toUCLA. Her retirement years were spent traveling . Shetraveled to London to visit her brother. France was afavorite destination. She traveled to multiple destinationsin the U.S., visiting Yellowstone every year for 15 years.China and Africa were also some of her favorite placesvisited. She has 3 grandchildren. Her hobbies include artsand crafts, theatre, music, games and puzzles, cooking, andanimals.

Agnes “Sue” Comunelli was born in Oakland, California in 1931.

She has one sister Liz, and a close friend Donna Rose. Shegraduated from Fremont High School where she was voted“Best Smile”! She married Paul Comunelli, who passed away in2003. Together they had four children, Linda Herrera, PaulComunelli, John Comunelli, and Beth Futral. She has manygrandchildren and great grandchildren. She worked as ahomemaker.

Her hobbies include volunteer work, scenic drives, reading,travel, arts and crafts, music , movies and TV.

She Volunteered at Alta Bates Hospital Thrift Store for 25years.
