Choir : Cantar

Translated from Spanish ~ ‘Sing a Happy Song’

Choir : Angels Watchin ’ Over Me

Arrangement by: Andy Brooke This celebrated spiritual has a strong, appealing, comfortable melody and is arranged skilfully here for four-part choir and piano, with a cappella sections and affecting modulations. Suited to more established choirs, it has plenty of opportunities for musical growth. Andy is a composer, arranger and school teacher. As well as having taught music throughout the age range from nursery to post-16, he has delivered music workshops to adults and children, directed a number of children's and community choirs, as well as teaching children with special educational needs and disabilities. Andy's passion for choral composition stems from his belief that something magical happens when we sing together, and that we should all have opportunities to sing in our lives.

Soprano Section : A Thousand Years

Music & Lyrics by: Christina Perri and David Hodges. It is taken from the album The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. On the week of October 23, 2011, the song debuted at No. 63 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and No. 70 on Canadian Hot 100. It has reached number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Perri her second top 40 hit. By July 2013, the song has sold over 3 million digital downloads in the US. As of June 2014, the song has sold 3,657,000 copies in the US. In the United Kingdom, the song reached number 32 on its original release in 2011. The following year, after the release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, it peaked at number 13. In 2013, after it was performed on the The X Factor (UK), it reached a new peak of 11.

Solo : Get Happy

Soloist: Laura Kirkpatrick Composed by: Harold Arlen - Lyrics by: Ted Koehler Influenced by the Get Happy tradition, it is most associated with Judy Garland, who performed it in her last MGM film Summer Stock (1950) and in live concert performances throughout the rest of her life. Garland sang this song with Barbara Streisand in a mash-up that also included ‘Happy Days Are Here Again’ on The Judy Garland Show in 1963.

Choir : Motet, Ave Verum Corpus

Composed by: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Ave Verum Corpus (Hail, true body) is a motet in D major, (K. 618), composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It is a setting of the 14th century Eucharistic hymn in Latin ‘Ave Verum Corpus’ in 1791. Mozart wrote it for Anton Stoll, a friend of Mozart and Joseph Haydn. Stoll was the musical coordinator in the parish St. Stephan (de) of Baden bei Wien, near Vienna. This setting was composed to celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi; the autograph is dated 17 June 1791. It is only forty-six bars long and is scored for SATB choir, string instruments, and organ. Mozart's manuscript contains minimal directions, with only a single sotto voce at the beginning. Mozart composed the motet while in the middle of writing his opera Die Zauberflöte, and while visiting his wife who was pregnant with their sixth child and staying in a spa near Baden. It was less than six months before Mozart's death.

Choir : Wide Open Spaces

Words & Music by: Sarah Quartel Commissioned for the 2015 National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association, Wide Open Spaces reflects on the journeys and adventures to be found in the wide open spaces within ourselves and in the world around us. The uplifting melody is passed from the upper voices to the lower voices before the piece opens out into an expansive texture with rich harmonies. A playful episode of scat singing is introduced before a resolute final chorus brings this evocative piece to a peaceful & serene close.

Choir : Si Njay Njay Njay

Zulu Traditional – Arranged by: Alexander L’Estrange A traditional Zulu song about love. It is a joyful, exuberant song with an infectious rhythm. The song builds up gradually from initially just the men, to the men and alto’s and finally to the men, alto’s and soprano’s. The optional percussion adds a great deal to this piece, which can also be sung a cappella.

Choir : Jesu Ukukhanya

Zulu Traditional – Arranged by: Alexander L’Estrange Jesu Ukukhanya has a call-and-response structure. Its simple solo line is followed by a choral answer that, typically of this style of music, moves predominantly in parallel harmony. The words first boldly proclaim that Jesus is the light, and then that ‘we’ and ‘you’ are also.

Clarinet Duet : Jokin ’ Apart

Music by: Roger Purcell Clarinettists: Jane Lee & Diane Porter

Alto Section : Top Of The World

Written & Composed by: Richard Carpenter & John Bettis Originally recorded for and released on The Carpenters 972 studio album ‘A Song for You’, it topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in late 1973, becoming the duo's second of three number one singles, following ‘(They Long to Be) Close to You’ and preceding ‘Please Mr. Postman.’ Karen Carpenter re-recorded the song for the band's first compilation as she was not quite satisfied with the original. It appeared on the 2010 soundtrack of Shrek Forever After when Shrek enjoys being a ‘real ogre’ and terrifying the villagers, as well as in a prominent scene of the 2012 film Dark Shadows, where a performance by the Carpenters is seen on a television screen.

Tenor & Bass Section : Fly Me To The Moon

Written & Composed by: Bart Howard In 1954, when writing the song which would later become "Fly Me to the Moon", Bart Howard had been pursuing a career in music for more than 20 years. He played piano to accompany cabaret singers but also wrote songs with Cole Porter, his idol, in mind. In response to a publisher's request for a simpler song, Bart Howard wrote a cabaret ballad in waltz time which he titled "In Other Words". A publisher tried to make him change some lyrics from "fly me to the moon" to "take me to the moon" but Howard refused to do this. Many years later Howard commented that ‘... it took me 20 years to find out how to write a song in 20 minutes’. He used his position as a piano accompanist and presenter at the Blue Angel cabaret venue to promote the song. Kaye Ballard made the first recording of the song in 1954. Since then it has become a frequently recorded jazz standard often featured in popular culture. Frank Sinatra's 1964 version was closely associated with the Apollo missions to the Moon.

Choir : Ain ’ t Misbehavin ’

Music by: Thomas ‘Fats’ Waller & Harry Brooks - Lyrics by: Andy Razaf - Arranged by: Mark Hayes This 1929 stride jazz/early swing composition was created specifically as a theme song for the Razaf/Waller/Brooks off-Broadway musical comedy Connie's Hot Chocolates. In a 1941 interview with Eddie ‘Rochester’ Anderson, Fats said the song was written while ‘lodging’ in alimony prison, and that is why he was not ‘misbehaving’.

Choir : Vera Lynn Medley

Arranged by: Andy Brooke Three classic and well known favourites have been expertly and cleverly joined together to make this wonderful homage to Dame Vera Lynn ‘The Forces’ Sweetheart’. White Cliffs of Dover - A Nightingale Sang In Berk’ley Square - We’ll Meet Again.
