Senior Systems Administrator at Ad Outpost and Waterfall Group of Companies

July 2012 - August 2015 (3 years 2 months)

My time at Ad Outpost (Pty) Ltd and The Waterfall Group of Companies was one of my favorite positions ever held. The

reasons are so many but to summarize what I did there. Design and Manage Information Systems Ensuring 99.8 %

uptime on all systems Planning and Upgrading of Corporate Network Database

I was appointed as IT Administrator for Ad Outpost and the Waterfall Group, I was employed with the main goal being to

get their systems to par with the rest of the world. When I started they had one server running 12 companies. Active

Directory structure and outdated hardware.

I then implemented a new server roll-out installing and configuring Seven New Dell servers to run all major functions

splitting the roles between them, I also used the older servers for storage and backup services after servicing and

upgrading them to the best I could.

Then I also implemented a new network infrastructure, with Seven New Dell Switches Six Power Connect 2048’s and One

Power Connect 7048 as my core switch, Brand new Molex Certified Copper Network with a Fiber Backbone running

between the floors back to the server room.

Installed a brand new Firewall “Dell Sonic wall NSA3500” with the new 10MBps Fiber Line Straight from Terraco.

(100Mbps) This Resulted in a 100% upgrade compared to the 4 Mbps ADSL line.

I put a new Active Directory in place with strict group policies to control usage of all systems incl. Internet Usage, File

Access, VPN Access, IT Support System, Printer Control, etc.

On the software side I registered both groups on a Microsoft Volume License Agreement with Software Assure. The Anti-

Virus system I implemented was McCafee Enterprise Solution

Konica Minolta Gauteng ran the largest installation and service department in the province for all Konica Minolta

dealers. My responsibilities were to look after existing clients and advise them of any new developments of technologies

that could benefit them. I also had to provide installation and integration to current systems of large corporate

environments.

March 2012 - October 2012 (8 months)

When I started at Deposita I was first introduced as the company’s Senior Network Engineer my primary responsibility

was to design the IPsec tunnel between our systems and those of the Major Corporate Banking Institutions in South

Africa (RMB\FNB\ABSA\Nedbank).

Deposita Systems designed and distributed Drop Safe Technology that was directly linked to their clients bank accounts

de-risking the clients’ money while it’s still on premise they quickly grew into a very large corporate entity in cash

management and was purchased by their biggest competitor G4S but kept onto the name Deposita forming a new

division called G4S Deposita.

From Senior Network Engineer I was, promoted to Senior Systems Administrator and Managed all the companies’

Providing the Government of South Africa with a solution to the water crisis, by monitoring and conserving the resources

we have and cutting down on wastage due to system responses and actions.

We started The Solution Company because we love finding the solutions to the more complex problems and threats we

as human’s face on a daily basis, we also look at achieving maximum efficiency by implementing custom designed

Intelligence Systems to control and monitor complete systems or integrate with existing systems to achieve the said

maximum efficiency.

Our current main project we have been working on for the past 3 years and have been able to source all the necessary

resources and systems to achieve the solution to our greatest current threat worldwide, WATER.

The management of a natural resource is a complicated almost impossible task that Government is responsible for and

The Solutions Company believes that a government can only function as well as the systems at its disposal.

The approach taken to achieve the most efficient and effective system to control the Water Resources available to the

South African people depends on the full governmental support.

In this presentation we will provide you with various systems that need to be implemented.

Project Goals

Primary Project Goals

The Solutions Company (Pty) Ltd have identified six primary goals that need to be achieve to have a complete solution.

Below summary of the goals and how we would achieve them.

Scoping of Complete Water Infrastructure

In order to provide an accurate quote, we will need authorization from Government to start the scoping process,

documenting all current systems and to provide the Solutions Company (Pty) Ltd with all systems diagrams, current

system stages and a wish list of functionality and reports.

The Solutions Company (Pty) Ltd will then review the current system and provide Government with a complete

documented and vetted system.

Complete Infrastructure Leak and Flow Control

The Intelligent Control System provides for leak detection at a national level. The use of layering and google maps API

gives us the ability to display leaks on a Google Maps Interface and direct technical responses via the Operational System

by using preset parameters to detect leaks on Main Feed Lines up to the endpoint (Customer Outlet).

We have outsourced the Endpoint Devices and Suburb Control System to our supplier Lesira Tec, their devices are

currently the only SABS and ISO approved devices that can deliver the needed reliability.

Complete Infrastructure Workflow Control

The Solutions Company (Pty) Ltd have developed the hardware and software to monitor and control the infrastructure

used to supply water to the country, from water level monitoring at dams to motor speed control on pumps and

sanitation centers across the country. Real-time status updates from all devices in the field ensure not only efficiency, but

system auditing and reporting on the current status of the system at any given time.

Dashboards provide operational information to Management and Technical Team members at a glance. The system is

configured with Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) to take action against any unwanted system behavior i.e. If a leak

occurs the system will automatically close down the closest supply line so that the total loss of a burst pipe is minimized,

at the same time the system will start the “leak repair operating procedure (SOP)” It creates a work order with a

summary of the problem and the information of all hardware that is required to fix the leak, and it allocates the work

order to an available technician the process only stops once the technician has released the software lock on the system

to allow a systems pressure and flow test that checks the leak status and responds by closing the work order if

everything is successful throughout the process the technician records various information back to the system via the

Maintenance Mobile App like parts used, Photo Upload of leak\burst pipe more can be added if required.

Complete Infrastructure Cost Control

The Intelligent Control Systems monitors and controls the motors used in the infrastructure, and only when needed

speeds up the pump so that the electrical cost to pump water decreases because the system controls every aspect of the

infrastructure based on its current status it will continuously reconfigure itself to run at optimum efficiency level and

provide feedback to management.

Complete Infrastructure Asset Control

By documenting and loading all infrastructure assets i.e. pumps, pipes, sensors, outlets, etc. the system will be able to

not only manage all assets, warranties, preferred suppliers, inventory of spares and booking of spares for call outs

automatically but will ensure efficient stock levels and maintenance schedules.

Technical Upskill of Governmental Employees

The Solutions Company (Pty) Ltd wants to have nine training centers where it can train and certify all governmental

employees to ensure only authorized personnel is allowed to work on the infrastructure and systems
