Underscoring The Colonnade’s environmental responsibility is its innovative new harsh chemical free cleaning system. The hotel is the first in the nation to imple- ment the ElectroCide™ System on a property-wide basis. This revolutionary clean- ing process has been proven to be 80% more powerful than chlorine bleach yet completely nontoxic to humans and the environment. It has virtually eliminated the use of bleach and other harsh chemicals within the hotel. All of The Colonnade’s windows have been replaced with energy efficient, sound- proof floor-to-ceiling windows with improved double panes and advanced tint technology. The new windows also open, providing guests with fresh air -- an option generally not available in city hotels. Energy saving climate-controlled heating and ventilating systems are activated when the guest checks-in and deactivated at checkout or when the guest leaves the room for a period of time. Thoughtfully designed, they can be maintained via a central network, eliminating any need to disturb the guest with an in-room visit. Adoption of a hotel-wide single stream recycling program that includes batteries and light bulbs. The Colonnade has implemented energy saving initiatives throughout the hotel that include: n Occupancy / light sensors in all offices n Energy star ice machines throughout the hotel n Low flow consumption toilets n Variable drives to the hotel’s water supply and HVAC chilled water system. n Recycling of all cooking oil. Adopted and Introduced Boston’s First Hotel Smart Car (see other side). Partnered with Green vendors and suppliers in the areas of dry cleaning and pest control. Benchmarked the building for the goal of an Energy Star rating. Member of Boston Green Tourism and an EPA WasteWise Partner, both organizations focused on reducing waste, energy and greenhouse gases. Future Initiatives Include: Food waste recycling and Obtaining an Energy Star rating. WHO IS THE CAR MAdE By? The Smart Car is made by Mercedes Benz in an environmentally friendly plant in France.

WHAT IS THE TOP SPEEd? The top speed is 90 mph.

WHAT IS THE GAS MILEAGE? The gas mileage is 40 mpg in the city and 45 on the highway.

HOW LARGE IS THE GAS TAnk? It holds 8 gallons.

IS THE SMART CAR SAFE? The 2008 smart fortwo achieved the highest ratings from the Insurance Institute for High-way Safety (IIHS) for front and side crashworthiness. The highlight of the safety manage-ment system is the tridion safety cell. The safety cell is made from steel, half of which is high-strength material, especially in highly stressed areas. The cell is designed to keep occupants protected. The reinforced steel and the design of the car, including the wheel bases, allow the distribution of the crash energy. *

HOW dOES THE SMART CAR PERFORM In THE SnOW? The smart fortwo standard active safety systems - Electronic Stability Program (esp®), trac-tion control, cornering brake control, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake distribution and brake assist - help drivers stay in control on snowy and icy terrains. The majority of the smart’s weight (engine and transaxle) is over the driven wheels resulting in better traction overall. Wider rear wheels and tires allow for better grip and traction in marginal weather conditions. Narrower front wheels and tires allow for less traction loss by penetrating into snow and ice deeper for improved steering control. All smart fortwo vehicles come standard with all season tires.*

WHy dOES THE HOTEL HAVE OnE? We think it makes a statement of our personal-ity and most importantly on our sensitivity to the environment.

WHAT IS THE CAR uSEd FOR? We use it to make pick-ups and deliveries of our guests and clients and items they may have requested.

WILL yOu LOAn THE CAR TO GuESTS? Due to insurance reasons, we don’t currently loan the cars out to guests but we’re working on it.
