The series starts in Paris, 1917, when Mata Hari is arrested on charges of espionage. This liberated, independent woman suddenly finds herself forced to defend her lifestyle as an artist and exotic dancer who mixes with the high and mighty against a rational army captain with self-proclaimed high moral standards, Pierre Bouchardon. As she struggles to prove her innocence, the secrets of her life, the moral dilemmas she faced and the choices she made come alive.
