Welcome

You should see the fair as an opportunity to find out more about the companies and learn about what it’s like to have a place on one of their graduate schemes. While you’re here you can also gain an insight into their different business areas and career paths. It’s a good idea to find out what they look for in candidates and what you need to do to make a successful application, so don’t forget to ask questions about their recruitment processes.

Making the most of the fair• Let employers know that you have done your research and are aware of

the company, and the opportunities they have to offer.

• Promote yourself and tell employers what you have to offer; your skills, strengths and any relevant specialist knowledge or technical skills etc.

• Visit the representatives from less well-known companies and see what they have to offer – don’t discount them just because you may not of heard of them.

• Before you leave an exhibitor’s stand, make a note of the person with whom you have been speaking and any tips or information they provided – this may be useful for any applications you make.

• Having spoken to a company representative don’t be surprised if you are referred to the company’s website – many employers have standard application procedures which involve an initial online application.

How much you achieve in life should not be determined by how much your parents earn. Yet in the UK, it usually is. We believe in the power of education to change this. We are an education charity working with others to give every child the right to a decent education.

We train people with leadership potential to be inspirational teachers in schools in low-income communities across the country. While transforming the lives of young people in schools around the country, Teach First helps graduates to dramatically enhance their own career potential, in schools and elsewhere, and become part of a movement that is effecting profound change throughout the UK.

With a variety of graduate programmes, there’s almost certainly going to be a role to suit you. You’ll be making some big decisions; you’ll be taking responsibility for some massive projects. You’ll help the business to get the best products and services from the best suppliers and you’ll use your insights to deliver the things customers really want, when they want them. Of course, there’ll be plenty of training along the way (possibly including a professional qualification, depending on where you join). But Tesco firmly believes that the most rewarding way to learn is to apply your knowledge in real-life business situations.

It’s a big opportunity. And even bigger when you take into account that this is a company that has operations in 12 countries, employs 530,000 people and serves millions of customers week after week. At Tesco, even a small idea can go a long, long way.
