IAG Personal Tutor Role
• Recognition that young people seek careers advice from a range of sources…Parents/Teachers/Internet/Peers
• Sept 2010 all pupils will have a personal tutor and that role will include helping:
- “ develop pupils’ abilities to make decisions between subject and qualification pathways”
• Personal tutors – a “first line” of IAG• www.tda.gov.uk/teachers/iag/ceg• www.cegnet.co.uk
New CE/IAG requirements for Schools
• Education and Skills Act 2008 raises the participation age in learning to 17 in 2013 and 18 in 2015
• Young people will need more CE/IAG at key transition stages over a longer period of time
• Pathways and choices more complex• IAG is included in the new Pupil and Parent Guarantees• Ofsted Framework and the SEF has been revised to ensure
CE/IAG provision is inspected• 2011 School Report Card includes post 16 progression
measure• Emphasis on impartiality: needs of Pupil vs needs of
Institution
