Steps for Safety in Schools

• Checking for important Operating Equipment (UPS, batteries, computers, projectors, multimedia, generators, fans, tube lights, energy savers, wirings etc.).

• Adhering to Maintenance Schedules of the equipment, where applicable.

• Monitor Water Consumption and regularly inspect water fixtures and outdoor areas for signs of dampness/leakage.

• Electric or Telephone Poles should not be allowed in the building premises.

… Steps for Safety in Schools

• Storage and use of Dangerous Goods (paints, fuel, kerosene, diesel, petrol, paint, thinner, primer, oil, cleaning chemicals etc.) and Flammable Substances within school facilities has potential to cause damage to property, the environment and the building’s occupants. The use of chemicals for routine activities such as cleaning can give rise to significant impacts on indoor environment quality, as well as affecting the health of cleaners or those in the immediate facility.

• Irresponsible Disposal of chemicals (such as pouring them down the drain) can cause significant impacts to water and waste water drainage systems, waste treatment process, and the natural environment.

… is an essential component of creating and maintaining a safe environment for residents andother key stakeholders, which also encompasses Protection of the Physical Assets and Infrastructure.

Tips for Security in Schools

• Ensure Security System to restrict access to Authorized people only.

• Secure Storage Areas with quality locks.• Always lock Accessible Doors and Windows even while leaving

the building.• Do not provide Easy Access to upper level floors, e.g. trees,

nearby fences.• Do not Let people that you do not know into your building

even if they seem trustworthy.• Never give out copies of Building Keys to unauthorized

persons.

Housekeeping Tips

• Sweep, Mop, Dust, Vacuum and Clean the toilets area, offices, classrooms, passages, stairways etc.

• Clean windows (both glass and frame). Leaves and dust in the frames hampers the easy sliding of the window panels, which demands relatively more force for opening of the windows, which can damage to the window and may hurt a person too.

• Dirty glass may Hamper the Influx of adequate light into the rooms.

• Admin officer should inspect the rooms cleaned by the housekeepers. During inspection, s/he ensures the cleanliness is up to the standards and there is no dust, wrappers, lack of Toiletries in the building.

… Housekeeping Tips

• Remove Trash and deposit it in the building's bins/dumpsters.• Regularly replace hand-washing soap in the toilets.• Keep an eye out for issues such as burned-out light bulbs that

need replacing.• Manage outdoor common areas such as courtyards or parking

lots, sweeping up Debris and emptying outdoor trash bins.• Regularly check the Drainage Pipes especially at the roof top. The

mouth of a drain pipe often Clogs due to the fallen leaves of the tress, wrappers etc.

• Poor Drainage may result into pooling of water on the roof, which may cause Seepage and deteriorate the building over the years.

… Housekeeping Tips

• Admin officer will ensure minor maintenance is carried out promptly to keep all school facilities in good working condition. Any graffiti or damage to school property will be attended to promptly, and the school maintained in an attractive way at all times.

• Floor and wall tiles, marble, simple flooring, paint along the passages and in classrooms may need regular maintenance.

• Admin officer staff will ensure all school windows and doors are secured at the close of school each day, and that electrical appliances are switched off.

… Housekeeping Tips

• Admin officer staff will ensure that the School Signboards especially placed on the roadside are in proper form and condition all the times.

• Admin officer will keep the Gardens, School Entrance and Public Areas of the school tidy and attractive.

• Admin officer staff will ensure that the plants in the school courtyard and inside the building are properly taken care of and regular Watering and Pruning is being carried out. Seasonal flowering plants should replaced at the end of their season(s) with the on-going seasonal flowering plants.
