Carbuncle & Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Carbuncle is an abscess larger than a

boil(infection of hair follicle)

Usually with one or more opening draining pus onto the skin.

Infected mass is filled with fluid,pus and death tissue.

Usually caused by bacterial infection,most commonly S.Aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes which can turn lethal.

May develop anywhere but most commonly on the back and nape of neck.

Hidradenitis suppurativa Common chronic skin

disease characterized by clusters of abscesses or subcutaneous boil like infections.

Most commonly affect apocrine sweat gland bearing areas such as axilla,under the breasts,inner thigh,groin and buttocks.

Main treatment is surgery.Surgeon should excise all abscess including membranes of abscess.
