Introduction

All RV parks provide wireless Internet for guests. The important requirements for a WiFi wireless Internet Hotspot are:

• Good wireless coverage throughout the property so visi tors can connect anywhere• A login page with a disclaimer that can be changed• A landing page so that visi tors are taken to the business website after login• Create access codes and l imit the Internet service to paying guests• Bandwidth control to prevent any visitor overloading the system• Content f i l ter to ensure that Internet access is family fr iendly, some websites

blocked • Firewall to prevent hackers gett ing access to the business computers• Block the use of f i le sharing software to prevent i l legal downloads• Timer-calendar to disable the Hotspot at specif ic t imes or days• Easy installat ion: no specialist network knowledge required

The installation project described in this document will provide good wireless coverage for a small to medium size caravan park or campground. For larger parks additional wireless equipment can be installed to extend the wireless range.

Selecting the right equipment

Guest Internet manufactures a range of hotspot controller products for hotspots of different sizes. Two gateway products are described in this presentation:

• GIS-R3: suitable for up to 100 users

• GIS-R6: suitable for up to 200 users

Remember that one caravan might represent four users: mom, dad and the two kids. Therefore a 100 user gateway might be suitable for 25 caravans

You must also ensure that you Internet connection has enough bandwidth, we recommend not to exceed 5 users for each Mbit of bandwidth:

• A DSL of 10Mb/s is suitable for up to 50 users

• A DSL of 40Mb/s is suitable for up to 200 users

If you exceed these recommendations then your Internet connection may become overloaded and stop working (called ‘congestive collapse’)

Standard login pages

• All Guest Internet products have twelve login pages pre installed, any one can be selected during the wizard setup procedure

• Guest Internet gateways can have a custom login page installed: the custom login page is created using HTML programming by a web site designer

Installation step 1

• Install the wiring from the location of the DSL/cable router to the wireless access point/antenna

• Do not exceed 300ft of Ethernet cable between the wireless access point and the gateway

• Use an Ethernet cable tester to verify that it is working correctly

Your wireless unit must have a connection to the Internet for the configuration process. I f you see a green YES then proceed to step 2. I f a red NO then click on the link to diagnose the problem.

You may need the help of a network technician to make your Internet connection work.

You may have to set a ‘fixed IP’. Ask your network technician to provide this for you.

Type in an appropriate name that will help your guests find your wireless network.

I f you select free access then your guests will click on a disclaimer to access the Internet. I f you select paid access then you will generate access codes using the menu option and sell these access codes to your guests.

Hotspot Gateway Product Setup - Quick Start Guide 1

The Guest Internet GIS-R2 WiFi Hotspot Internet gateway product has four Ethernet ports that can be used to connect wireless access points, Internet café kiosk computers, wired hotel rooms and business center computers. The Internet port must be connected to the DSL or cable modem

First Time Product Conf igurat ionConnect your laptop computer to one of the LAN ports of the GIS-R2. Connect the Internet port to you DSL router.

Open your computer browser. Instead of your login page you will see the page shown below. This page is the SETUP WIZARD.

The setup process has four steps. Follow the instructions to type in the information requested on each page. Then click on the button to go to the next page. When the setup process is completed your personalizedwireless Internet service will be ready for your guests to start using. The setup process is shown overleaf: flip this page over to start the setup process.

Connect your computer Ethernet connector to the LAN1 connector of the GIS-R2. Your computer Ethernet connector should be configured for dynamic IP or as a DHCP client. I t cannot be used with a fixed IP.

Login to the Admin pages at any time. Connect your computer to the GIS-R2 via an Ethernet cable of wireless. Then open your browser and type in the URL:

The username is adm in, and the password is the one that you entered with the wizard.

When the page opens select the option you need in the menu. See the manual for more information about configuration.

For operation the WiFi Hotspot users will use the wireless network or kiosk computers. Connect wireless access points and kiosk computers to the GIS-R2 LAN ports.

Reset t o Factory Default s: With the GIS-R2 powered up, use a paperclip to press the reset button through the hole. Hold the reset button down for 10 seconds the release. All parameters will be reset.

First connect the GIS-R2 as shown in the diagram to configure it using the setup wizard.

Connect the Internet connector of the GIS-R2 to the DSL or cable modem LAN Ethernet connector. The DSL of cable modem should have the LAN network connector configured as a DNCP server. Check with the equipment manual to verify the LAN connector configuration.

I f you wish to connect more then 4 devices then connect a switch to increase the number of ports.

Installation step 3

• Configure the wireless broadcast name (SSID) of the wireless access point. Use the name for the hotspot: “Caravan park WiFi” or replace ‘Caravan’ with the name of your park. The procedure to set the wireless name is listed below

• Change the SSID name to the name selected, e.g. ‘Caravan park WiFi’ , or choose the name of your park

Installation step 4

• Install the wireless access point on the mast, try to install the antenna above the height of surrounding trees

• DANGER: DO NOT install the antenna anywhere near overhead power lines

• Avoid climbing a tall ladder to install the antenna: if possible install the antenna on the mast while it is on the ground then erect the mast

• Connect the Ethernet cable to the PoE power supply in the office and verify that the power LED on the Bullet 2M is glowing

• Connect the LAN connector of the PoE power supply to either the GIS-R3 LAN port or the Ethernet switch

• Verify that the link light of the Ethernet port lights when the cable is plugged in

• Verify that your laptop computer or tablet can connect to the wireless access point then open the browser and verify that you can see the login page
