Chapter 11: God Made LandIn this lesson, the children learned about land and some of its features: mountains, valleys, rivers, and deserts. They heard that God’s Son, Jesus, loved the earth, and they talked about caring for it. Ask your child about the earth picture he or she made. Hang the picture in your child’s room or in another room in your home.

Your ChildInstill in your child a reverence for the earth. When you and your child see striking scenery, make a comment such as “Isn’t God wonderful to give us fi elds that beautiful?” Point out how your family can help preserve the earth and keep it clean and beautiful.

Chapter 12: God Made AirIn this lesson, the children learned about air and how it works for us. They learned that air is essential for life, just like God. They heard the biblical story of how God created the fi rst human being by blowing the breath of life into him. Ask your child to tell you how the wind is like God. Praise the kite your child made.

Your ChildChildren fi nd comfort in the thought that God is everywhere. Remind your child frequently that God is always with him or her.

Do• On a windy day, go outside with your child.• Enjoy fl ying a kite, blowing bubbles, or playing

the mouthpiece to make noise as the air is released, let the balloons go and watch them fl y around the room, sit on balloons to make them pop, or tie balloons to your ankles and those of your child and then try to break each other’s balloons.

Chapter 13: God Made LightIn this lesson, the children learned about the gift of light. They heard the story of the healing of the blind man and learned that God’s Son, Jesus, is light for us. They recalled that candles are used in church. Ask your child how Jesus is the light of the world. Display your child’s baptismal candle in your home, perhaps on the dining room table or on a mantelpiece.

Your ChildLight is a powerful religious symbol. Compare light with goodness and knowledge for your child. � en he or she will be better able to understand the meaning of Christ our Light.

Do• Watch a sunrise with your child. Praise God

Chapter 14: God Made ColorIn this lesson, the children thanked God for making colors. They learned that colors can be symbols and that colors can evoke feelings. Ask your child to tell about the book of colors he or she made.

Your ChildIntroduce God’s multihued world to your child by teaching him or her the names of the colors.

Do• Have everyone in the family tell his or her

favorite color. Help your child make a picture for each person, using his or her favorite color.

• Take a walk and fi nd something that is the same color as each color of the rainbow.

• Have a “color party” for the neighborhood children. Have them wear their favorite color. Make a cake decorated with a rainbow. Play games and give boxes of crayons and paints as prizes.

• Keep your child supplied with sheets of blank paper to color and paint.

• Celebrate a red day (or a day of any other color). Wear red clothes, eat red food, and set out red decorations.

• Read to your child Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson. Ask your child to name his or her favorite colors. � ank God for all of the world’s colors.
