INTRODUCTION• CaO Hellas is the biggest lime producer in Greece and the Balkans.
• The group is consisted of 3 plants manufacturing lime products.
• In the last decade CaO Hellas has invested a lot in research and development, especiallyin the improvement of environment and clean technologies. As a result of this, thepatented GREENLIME method of treating industrial flue gases from toxic pollutants suchas SOx, NOx, Cl, Hg and F, has emerged.

PLANTS LOCATION
CaO Hellas (Thessaloniki)
• This installation is located in Thessaloniki the 2nd
biggest city and port in Greece.
• Products: Building quicklime, lime slurry, hydrated lime, lime for soil stabilisation(ROADLIME), lime for agriculture (AGROLIME)
• Capacity: 50.000 tn quicklime
• 30.000-60.000 tn hydrated lime
• Type of kiln: PRFK – Parallel regenerative flow kiln
• Fuel: Petroleum Coke, LPG and biomass
• This installation is located in Volos one of the biggest cities and ports in Greece.
• Products: Chemical use quicklime, hydrated lime, dry mortars. Petroleum coke treatment
• Capacity: 120.000 tn quicklime
• 30.000-60.000 tn hydrated lime
• Type of kilns: 1. PRFK – Parallel regenerative flow kiln, 2) High temperature single shaft kiln (RCE)
• Fuel: Petroleum Coke, natural gas and biomass

• This installation is located in Northern Greece, next to the Balkan borders and near the power plants in Greece in Greece.
• Products: Building and agricultural quicklime, special hydrated lime and GREENLIME products Biomass treatment (grinding and drying)

MULTIPLE POINTS DRY GREENLIME INJECTION (MPDGI)
• CaO Hellas has developed a new productGROUP under the name of GREENLIME whichaims in industrial pollutants mitigation ofpollutants such as SOx, NOx, Hg, HF and HCl.These patented products have brought a newdimension in Dry Sorbent Injection (DSI) andHybrid Dry Sorbent Injection (HDSI), creatingas a result a new method of Sorbent Injectionunder the name Multiple Points Dry GreenlimeInjection (MPDGI).
• GREENLIME products are specialized sorbentswith additives based on calcium withspecialized product characteristics such assurface area, grain size and porous size

HYBRID INJECTION TO ENHANCE PERFORMANCE (FURNACE INJECTION & IN-DUCT INJECTION)
• GREENLIME grains that have beendesigned with special physical andchemical characteristics can beinjected simultaneously orseparately in boiler burning zone andflue gas duct where following theflue gases to the filters cansubstantially reduce emissions ofSOx, NOx, HF, Hg, dioxins andfurans.
GREENLIME BY PRODUCTS OR RECYCLING
In the end, the GREENLIME grains are
collected from environmental technology
such as ESP and Bag filters where they can
either be rejected as finished building by
products or they can be recycled until
sorbent activity is limited.

• 1500 MW using lignite
• SO2 emissions level < 3.000 mg/Nm3

• Flue gas volume: 2.000.000 Nm3/hr (UNIT 3)
• Sorbent characteristics: < 27 m2/gr surface area
• Hybrid system with recirculation of unused sorbent with extra ESP
HYBRID GREENLIME INJECTION. STAGE 1. IN – DUCT INJECTION
• STAGE 1.
• GREENLIME in-duct injection at UNIT 3 II of 300 MW POWER
• GREENLIME injection at temperature range up to 170 o C.
• In duct injection results were improved by water humidification system in order to reduce the adiabatic saturation temperature of the flue gases.
STAGE 2. GREENLIME COMBINED IN-DUCT INJECTION
• STAGE 2.
• GREENLIME PRODUCTS in-duct injection at UNIT 3 II of 300 MW POWER.
• Combined injection at temperature range up to 300 o C.
STAGE 3. FURNACE INJECTION• STAGE 3.
• FIRELIME was introduced at ignition point were pollutants concentration was highest. Pop corn effect occurred when FIRELIME was injected at ignition point resulting to a sorbent with enhanced physical characteristics boosting performance.
• FIRELIME was introduced with lignite feeding or at primary combustion air supply.
• The innovation was the injection at high temperature (1000 o C) where the maximum performance was caused due to the instantaneous action of the enhanced sorbent at the maximum pollutant concentration.
• The key point is the speed of reaction of sorbent with the pollutants at burning zone where their concentration is maximum before sintering effect takes place to the pores of the sorbent and becomes reactive. FIRELIME due to its characteristics and due to the popcorn effect can be very effective at high temperatures before sintering effect takes place.

STAGE 4. HYBRID INECTION OF FIRELIME AND GREENLIME PLUS RECIRCULATION OF UNREACTED MATERIAL
• STAGE 4.
• MPDGI was fully introduced at unit 3 consisting of:
1. FIRELIME furnace injection
2. GREENLIME in duct injection
3. RECIRCULATION of unreacted sorbent collected from 2nd ESP and injected in duct.
• Performance was maximum and target point achieved easily and in a constant manner. Complete system responded very well.
