Canon released the EOS 7D Mark II on 15 September 2014.
It is the successor of EOS 7D introduced five years ago.
Being a Videographer, I am interested only in the video specifications.

First the Feature Highlights, a.k.a. selling points:● 20.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor● Dual DIGIC 6 Image Processors● 3.0" 1.04m-Dot Clear View II LCD Monitor● Full HD 1080p/60 Video & Movie Servo AF● Dual Pixel CMOS AF with Live View● 65-Point All Cross-Type AF System● Native ISO 16000, Extended to ISO 51200● Continuous 10 fps Shooting● Magnesium Alloy Body Construction● Built-In GPS Receiver & Digital Compass

Video Specifications of the Canon EOS 7D Mark II:● Captures Full HD 1920 x 1080● Records at 60fps, 30fps and 24fps ● Also HD 1280 x 720 60fps and SD 640 x 480 30fps ● MOV and MP4 Formats● Compression MPEG-4 AVC / H.264● Uncompressed video to external recorder via mini-HDMI ● Video out (NTSC/PAL)● Dual Pixel AF for video (first introduced in 70D)● Movie servo AF speed (predictive) setting● ISO up to 16000● Dual Card Slot: Records to SD card and Compact Flash● External microphone input jack● Headphones output jack● Time-lapse capability● Max recording time: 29min 59sec

I am happy to see these video specs:● MOV and MP4 Formats: Recording at compressed H.264
means I save memory space, and I’m not doing broadcast anyway.
● Video out (NTSC/PAL): Great for live video projection during an event shoot.
● Movie servo AF speed (predictive) setting: Predictive focusing is what I call a SMART feature any e-device should have.
● ISO up to 16000: I have seen on YouTube, videos shot in the dark and there is practically no video grains. Kudos!
● External microphone input jack: A must for video interviews.● Headphones output jack: A must when recording
interviews.● Time-lapse capability: Time-lapse video footage sells, and it
is best shot with a high resolution still camera.

I am disappointed with these missing video specs:● No 4K recording: That means it’s not future-proof
and will become a dinosaur in a very short while.● No 25fps: Need to confirm if video flickers when
shooting under 50Hz fluorescent lighting.● No slo-mo: 60fps is not good slow motion any more,
there should be at least 120fps or 240 fps.● No HDR: Contrasting exposure is always a big
problem. If smart devices have HDR, why not this?● No touch screen: Another sign of advancement
standing still or rather moving backwards.● No Wifi: In this mobile wireless era, why no wifi?● Recording stops at 29min 59sec: When I see this,
I know I am not buying it for my work, not even for pleasure!

Verdict: If you want a still camera that can shoot video,
I wouldn’t recommend the Canon EOS 7D Mark II.
To be fair, this is a great still camera designed for fast
action sports photography.

PS:● If you really must shoot video with a 7DM2, use Canon STM lenses.● The Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens has dynamic image
stabilization with quiet and smooth focusing. ● The price for EOS 7D Mark II (Body only) is US$1799.● The price for EOS 7D Mark II (with EF S18-135 IS STM) is US$2149.● Let me know your thoughts and questions here… http://videolane.com/?
