This is the seventh year that the Annual State Special Olympics Track & Field Spectacular has been held. Approximately 300 athletes from 12 area school districts participated in the events. Our Canisteo-Greenwood high students participated in events such as the 25-meter wheelchair dash, 50-meter dash, 100-meter & 400-meter walk, shot put, softball throw, tennis ball throw, running long jump, & standing long jump. The day would not be possible without the volunteers who help make it happen every year. Almost 200 volunteers from ASC, participating schools and the surrounding communities have a hand in the success of the event each year. Participants are greeted with hugs, handshakes, high fives, and ribbons distributed to the winners in each event. Canisteo-Greenwood High School Times

Alfred State College was the site of the region’s Special Olympics again this year. This is the seventh year that the Annual State Special Olympics Track & Field Spectacular has been held. Approximately 300 athletes from 12 area school districts participated in the events.

Canisteo-Greenwood Prom 2019

Frame The Night

The Junior-Senior Prom this year was held on Saturday, May 11,

2019, at The Canisteo American Legion. There were approximately 15o

juniors and seniors that attended prom this year. The classes voted to

have this year’s theme be “Frame the Night”. Decorations for the prom

reflected the theme.

This year’s Senior Court was voted as follows: King was Curtis Quick

and Queen was Faith Bown. Duke was Noah Loper and Duchess was

Lindsey Simons.

This year’s Junior Court was voted as follows: Prince was Dylyn

Bailey and Princess was Hannah Hemler. Count was Adam Puorro

and Countess was Rylee Button.

NYSPHSAA Announces Canisteo-Greenwood a "School of Distinction"

NYSPHSAA recognized Canisteo-Greenwood as a "School of Distinction" for the 2018-2019 school year. In order to win this award, 100% of our varsity teams (fall, winter, & spring) must have 75% of their rosters with a 90% GPA or higher. This is a major accomplishment for our student-athletes, coaches and teachers. Last year there were only 30 schools in all of New York State who won this award!

Congratulations to our varsity teams and coaches of the following

sports: Football, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Girls Tennis, Fall

Cheerleading, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling,

Swimming, Winter Cheerleading, Baseball, Softball, Golf, and Boys/Girls Track.

Chemistry Students Participate in The Chem Bowl

@ Corning Community College

Canisteo-Greenwood brought two teams to the Chem Bowl, which was held on May 10, 2019 at 4:00 pm on the campus of Corning Community College. There were a total of eight teams this year from Waverly,

Horseheads, Elmira, Canisteo-Greenwood, and Corning districts. Participants of C-G’s Team One included Taneeka Howell, Alex Robbins and Savannah Ambuski. Team Two participants included Nate Button, Brandon Smith, Caleb O'Dell- Oriend, and Jordan Brizzee. Both teams lost their first match and in the second round of competition, were forced to play each other. The girls were victorious and continued on to complete in round three. In

round three they were narrowly defeated by Waverly HS.

Canisteo-Greenwood Soph Hop 2019

The Canisteo-Greenwood Soph Hop was held on March 2, 2019, from

8:00-11:00 pm. Approximately 50 sophomores and their guests attended

the event. Cost of the tickets were $10 per person and music was

provided by Stellar Entertainment. All who attended the event enjoyed

an evening of fun, dancing, and light refreshments.

The DJ selected the King and Queen based on participation at the

dance, as well as who appeared to be having the most fun. Savannah

Ambuski and Caleb O’Dell-Oriend were chosen to be crowned.

Auditorium. The musical was based on “”Little Orphan Annie” and
