ACADEMIC AFFAIRS OFFICER
***************************************************************************
Jessica Colston
Proposed by: Dan Sowood Seconded by: Tamsin Brown
Academic matters are a huge part of Oxford life. We joke about essay crises and poor tutors but these aren’t an inevitable part of the Oxford experience!
As your Academic Affairs Officer I would:
• Represent your academic concerns: I will hold regular drop in sessions where you can raise any issues you are having with tutors, your workload or any other aspect of academic life.
• Study skills workshops: Starting an Oxford degree can be daunting. In Michaelmas running sessions would be really useful for freshers.
• Careers advice: I will consult the JCR and run sessions with the Careers Service on the areas people they feel they need the most advice
I have significant experience representing others in the past and I’m working with the JCR committee on the Rents and Charges sub-‐committee. As Academic Affairs officer I would ensure that all JCR members have the best academic experience possible.

Ed Evans
Proposed by: Sym Hunt Seconded by: Kai Laddiman
Love it or hate it, the academic side of things underpins our time here, and tutors getting stuff wrong is something that nobody wants. I would ensure that academic concerns were addressed quickly and effectively, and, by keeping up the pressure on those involved, work to reduce all those problems of the inefficient College and faculty bureaucracies. To brighten the light at the end of the academic tunnel, I would work with College to arrange sessions for careers advice, both as talks and as more relaxed events – who could resist coffee, croissants and career opportunities? Likewise I would hope to find a range of speakers from outside College, from a range of career backgrounds, and I would hope to get the JCR more involved in choosing them. Finally, I also passed my grade 4 piano exam with merit – in other words, I’m a very well-‐rounded individual.

Caitlin Jones
Proposed by: Greg Auger Seconded by: Charles Clegg
Oxford is amazing for its academic benefits, and ultimately that’s why we’re all here. I am passionate about ensuring that the university’s reputation for academic excellence is realised for every individual student. The system isn’t perfect and doesn’t always get things right; as your Academic Affairs Officer I would be dedicated to constantly looking at ways of making the academic experience better.
As Academic Affairs officer I would:
• Make the presence of Academic Affairs more visible for incoming Freshers, especially in terms of welfare
• Improve support for students with specific learning needs
• Aim to introduce clearer guidelines for tutors setting work in 0th week
• Hold regular drop-‐in feedback sessions
• Investigate how the Careers Service can be harnessed
• Evaluate the support given to returning Year Abroad students
I promise not only to listen to your concerns with empathy, but also to be efficient in doing something about them.

WELFARE OFFICER ***************************************************************************
Louise Chegwidden
Proposed by: Laura Marsden Payne Seconded by: Laura Boddy
I'm Louise, a first year French student. I have a long-‐standing interest in welfare support, having been involved in a listening service at college and am currently a Peer Supporter. On arriving here I quickly came to appreciate the role of Welfare Support, and would love to become part of the team to help others benefit from the fantastic support SJC provides. The current officers have been hugely successful; I would like to continue the same high level of support and build on that success. I want to develop the role of peer supporters; to make stress management techniques such as mindfulness training readily available, and to build in the use of Welfare support to ensure everyone is using it to their benefit. I am a good listener, friendly, discreet, and well known for my organisational skills. I hope I can provide John's students with the ‘TLC’ they require!

Rhiannon Rees
Proposed by: Charli Hopkins Seconded by: Malika Saksena
Some of you may not know me, as I have just returned from a year abroad, but I am looking forward to getting to know everyone! I am friendly, approachable and organized, and have experience in similar roles.
We are lucky enough to have a good welfare team at St John’s and I love being part of that. I am already a Peer Supporter, and having trained with Charlie I know that we would work well together.
I therefore have experience of the all-‐important TW teas, and am keen to bring homemade goodies to these if elected. I would also encourage awareness of welfare events out of college, and test out drop-‐in sessions similar to ‘dial-‐a-‐doughnut’ (although of course my door is always open).
I recognize the importance of liaising with the Freshers’ Committee to make welfare a priority in Freshers’ week and believe I would be well-‐placed to make this happen.

WOMEN’S OFFICER
***************************************************************************
Katy Haigh
Proposed by: Cecilia Peker Seconded by: Laura Herd
I’m Katy and I study History of Art: I attend WomCam, was a rep for the Dignity Drive, volunteered with Speak Out to create care packages for Iraqi women, and campaign with Good Night Out.
As Women’s Officer I would aim to continue Lidia’s fantastic work, as well as endeavouring to:
• Be a supportive contact for all women in college
• Work with other reps to ensure women’s events are intersectional
• Continue to invite inspiring speakers to women’s lunches
• Organise another First Respondent Training and encourage freshers to participate
• Engage freshers in gender quality issues by organising a sleepover event
• Run a free emergency sanitary products scheme
• Encourage college to support WomCam’s Fifth Week Free campaign
• Introduce women’s events centred around self-‐care to our term card
I’m proud to be a member of a college with a supportive network of women and I am passionate about giving something back to you!

Rheanna-‐Marie Hall
Proposed by: Elizabeth Carr Seconded by: Imogen Thwaites
I’m Rheanna, a second-‐year English student and I want to:
Make sure everyone can ask
• Have a Just Ask policy. That means all members of college are encouraged to ask questions, whether it be on why we have women’s dinner, or what intersectionality means. Questions should be answered too. We need to be able to talk.
Make sure everyone can participate
• Introduce an event where some of these core questions can be answered face to face – the Just Ask policy in action. For the fourth women’s lunch, select questions prior to the event and bring in a panel of the relevant people to best answer them.
Make sure everyone can listen
• Use the brilliant speakers we bring in every two weeks and give them a better viewing platform. For those who can’t make it to women’s lunches, video the speaker and upload it onto the St John’s Feminist Facebook page.

Bex Redding
Proposed by: Lizzie Roberts Seconded by: Olivia Buckley
Hi, I’m Bex and I’m a second year Classics student.
Since coming to Oxford I have begun to realise how important gender equality issues are and I really want to maintain the amazing work that has already been done and continue to make St John’s a safe and comfortable place for all genders.
As women’s officer I plan to:
• Ensure that women’s lunches continue to take place every fortnight (and invite fantastic speakers!)
• Hold regular discussions based around feminism and gender equality
• Work with the other liberation reps to strive for a truly inclusive and intersectional feminist environment, and endeavour to put on events to work for and celebrate this
• Work to reduce the stigma around the word ‘feminism’, and try to make gender equality at John’s open and accessible by putting on events open to everyone
• Be a constant and friendly point of contact for all women in college
