CANCER CHANGES A CHILD’S LIFE. SO DOES CAMP.Kids with cancer grow up fast. They deal with serious “grown-up” problems everyday, and between treatments, surgeries, and visits to the doctor, it’s almost impossible to find time for the equally serious business of being a kid.
That’s why Camp Oochigeas is so special. It’s a place where kids with cancer can just be kids. It’s also the only camp in Canada that delivers on-site chemotherapy and blood transfusions, one of the many reasons oncologists “prescribe” Ooch for their patients.
THE MAGIC OF OOCH.For over 30 years, Camp Ooch has been a place where kids are defined by who they are – not what they have. Set in beautiful Muskoka, Ooch offers kids a chance to experience the joys of traditional overnight camping like waterskiing and rock climbing, all while providing quality medical care alongside necessary support staff. Parents say that Camp has made their kids more independent, confident and resilient. But more importantly, they say it’s helped them gain a more positive outlook on their cancer, and their life.
MORE THAN A CAMP.In-Hospital: Ooch runs programs for children and their families year-round, seven days and four nights a week at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and weekly at a number of other hospitals. These programs bring the Magic of Ooch where it’s needed most. Ooch Downtown: This one-of-a-kind facility lets the Magic of Ooch live year-round. It provides programs that are especially important for children who are too sick to go to Camp, or for whom going to overnight camp is too big of a stretch.
