RICHMOND – The on-
set of September marks the
beginning of a new school
year. Students equipped with
sharpened pencils, brand new
pens, pristine notebooks and
nervous anticipation for the
year ahead. But, for the Sch-
reifels children, September is
the opening of bear hunting
season. The Schreifels family –
Anton and Amy, with their
children, Hunter, 17, Hannah,
16 and Hope, 14 – of Rich-
mond are quite simply, a fami-
ly of hunters.
“We go on family hunts, or
whoever can go out at the time
goes,” Anton said. “Nothing
is going to stop us from hunt-
ing.” Amy and Anton, from
Richmond and Cold Spring,
respectively, rst started hunt-
ing in their youth.
“I went hunting with my
dad,” Amy said. “We would
ELROSA – As an early-morning
August thunderstorm rolls over the
lush Minnesota landscape, the deepest
purple, beautifully-veined beet plants
rest on the front porch of the Zenzen
farm. By the time the clouds part, and the
heat churns the air humid, those beets
will be resting in a new way – as fresh-
ly-canned pickled beets.
They won’t, however, make the
transformation by themselves. Virginia
Zenzen, daughter of Neal and Theresa,
is the chef and her specialty is canned
goods. Zenzen, 24, is the oldest of ve
children who call the 39-cow dairy
farm near Elrosa home. The organ-
ic farm features Holstein and Brown
Swiss milking cows as well as chick-
ens. The family also produces corn,

But, Anton and I started dating
when we were sophomores in
high school, so we went hunt-
ing together, too.”
For Anton, the list of ani-
mals hunted at an early age ex-
tends far beyond deer and sh.
“Oh, we’d hunt deer,
pheasant, grouse, ducks and
eventually turkeys,” Anton
said. “The whole barrage.”
Amy, a home daycare pro-
vider, and Anton, an employee
of Granite-Tops in Coldspring,
have kept the hunting tradition
alive in their family, exposing
their children to the sport.
“All of the kids started
archery at the indoor lanes at
Channel Marine and Sports in
town when they were in sec-
ond grade,” Amy said. “And
now, it’s amazing to see their
progression. When they were
little, we helped them hold
a gun and told them the spot
to shoot from. To see how
far they’ve improved in their
skills, it’s rewarding as a par-
ent.” The family hunts, traps
and shes – quite literally –
everything they can in the
area, including bear, deer,
goose, duck, turkey, pheas-
ant, turtle, coyote and carp, to
name a few.
While all initially hunted
using guns, the family favors
bow hunting instead, noting
the challenge and convenience
of a longer season with fairer
weather. The family owns sev-
en Mathews bows, including
Hannah’s pink camou age va-
riety and Hope’s jet-black bow
with blue accessories. In addi-
tion, Hunter and Hannah have
bows for carp shing. The
family also owns several guns

made spear shing decoys.

(NAPSA)—There are many goodreasons breakfast is often called themost important meal of the day. Most significantly, breakfast givesyou energy. When you wake up inthe morning, your body has beenfasting, or going without food, dur-ing the hours you were asleep. Eat-ing breakfast means you “break thefast” and give your body (and brain)the energy needed to function—veryimportant for school-aged children.
Studies have shown that chil-dren’s learning is stimulated andthey perform better academicallywhen they are “fueled for school.”Eating breakfast also helps todevelop better eating patterns—you and your family will feel moresatisfied and be less likely toovereat or eat too much junk foodlater in the day. Breakfast pro-vides a great opportunity to get allthe daily vitamins and mineralsneeded by eating nutritious foodssuch as whole grains, fruits anddairy products.
So how can you convenientlymake sure your morning routineis healthful? The National Frozen& Refrigerated Foods Associationrecommends stocking your freezerand refrigerator with convenient, tasty, healthful options from thecool aisles of your local grocerystore. There are many quick, tasty, nutritious options that willplease both parents and kids.
You can have these deliciousbreakfasts ready in minutes:

• Mix yogurt, frozen strawber-ries, skim milk and bananas in ablender for a tasty smoothie.

Morning Fuel For School—“BreakThe Fast”
Yogurt parfaits can be a great way to enjoy a good breakfast.
(NAPSA)—Those who thinkgeothermal heating and coolingsystems are just for individualhomes may be in for a surprise.
A number of cities, both in theU.S. and elsewhere, are exploringhow to best implement the tech-nology to create a geothermal util-ity. They believe such a utility canoffer consumers lower energycosts as well as tax savings.
How It WorksA geothermal heat pump (GHP)
works very similarly to a normalheat pump except that itexchanges heat with the groundinstead of the outdoor air. A GHPuses a system of undergroundpipes filled with water to transferthermal energy to and from thehome and brings it up to tempera-tures suitable to heat or cool.
Using the earth as a naturalenergy source, a geothermal sys-tem can operate more efficientlythan ordinary heating and air-conditioning systems because itcan deliver five units of energy forevery one unit of electrical energyused. That translates to a 500 per-cent efficiency rating.
An Example In MichiganThe city of Wyandotte, Michi-
gan is creating a geothermal util-ity and installing geothermalheating and cooling systems in 48structures located in the city.
Tentative plans call for thecity’s municipal services to coverthe average $8,000 cost for eachwell and charge home and build-ing owners a monthly service feeand energy charge, based on thecapacity of the system installed.
It’s projected that homeownersusing the utility will save as muchas 70 percent compared to thecosts associated with more conven-tional heating and cooling systems.
Plus, homeowners will be ableto take advantage of a 30 percenttax credit on the cost of purchasingand installing a geothermal sys-tem. This means the system canprovide savings both by costingless than a traditional air sourceheat pump and delivering evengreater efficiency.
“In addition to savings, a geo-thermal system provides precise dis-tribution of comfortable air all yearlong, eliminating hot and cold spotsthroughout the home and providingquiet operation,” said Jeff Caplan, the principal contractor on the proj-ect. He selected a geothermal heatpump from WaterFurnace to provideefficient heating and cooling to theoriginal homes in the project.
WaterFurnace International,Inc. is a leading manufacturer ofgeothermal and water source heatpumps.
To learn more, you can visitwww.waterfurnace.com.
Geothermal Utilities Are A Hot Topic
Experts say homeowners whouse a geothermal utility may saveas much as 70 percent on heat-ing and cooling costs and beeligible for a tax break.
(NAPSA)—You can significantlyreduce the time spent maintainingyour property by employing modernmower technology.
Compared to older tractor-stylemowers, modern mid-mount zero-turn riding mowers cut muchfaster, with enhanced maneuver-ability. This lets them be muchmore productive and versatile, asthe “turn on a dime” handlingmeans operators can trim closer tolandscape features and deftly nav-igate around flowerbeds.
Instead of the traditional gear-box, a zero-turn rider uses a sys-tem of hydraulic pumps and wheelmotors to drive the mower forwardand backward at variable speeds ofup to 10 miles per hour. The zero-turning radius is achieved withindependent hydro motors on eachdrive wheel, which allow one wheelto run forward simultaneously asthe other runs in reverse. Whencombined with freely rotatingcaster wheels ahead of the cuttingdeck, the system allows for a zero-turning radius and a heightenedlevel of control.
“For many folks, time is almostmore valuable than money,” saidDaryn Walters of Exmark Mfg.“The switch from a tractor-stylemower to a mid-mount zero-turnriding mower dramatically re-duces the time it takes to care forthe yard. Not only do users havemore time to do what they love, the unmatched cut quality deliv-ers a professionally maintainedappearance.”
Walters noted that zero-turnriders are the dominant mowertype for professional landscape
contractors and the virtues forwhich contractors choose themowers are similar to those home-owners want.
In short, he said it’s aboutdoing more in less time.
“Their business is built ondelivering a great cut quality, butto be profitable they need to do itas quickly as possible. This iswhere a mid-mount zero-turnrider shines.”
There are a number of consid-erations that factor into the ulti-mate value of the mower. Moweroptions including higher-horse-power engines, wider cuttingdecks and accessory bagging sys-tems are available.
Bigger isn’t always better, how-ever, and it makes sense to choosean appropriate zero-turn mowerfor the property. When selecting amid-mount zero-turn ridingmower, consider overall size, land-scaping and budget.
More guidelines on selectingthe right mower for a property canbe found at www.exmark.com/NotSureWhatToBuy.aspx.
Modern Technology Simplifies Yard Maintenance
The latest in mower technologycan help the grass be greener onyour side of the fence withoutyour having to spend a lot oftime.
(NAPSA)—Experts say trafficaccidents can be among the moststressful events a person can experi-ence. Fortunately, a new programhas been created to help drivers dealwith that stress more effectively.
According to the NationalHighway Traffic Safety Adminis-tration (NHTSA), there were over6 million traffic accidents re-ported to police in 2004. Thatbreaks down to more than 11accidents per minute; by the timeyou finish reading this article, over 30 auto accidents will havetaken place, and that doesn’tinclude the minor fender bendersthat go unreported.
Whether it’s due to MotherNature, mechanical failure or theguy behind you trying to balance acell phone conversation with a cupof coffee, the unfortunate reality isthat it’s easy to become one ofthese statistics at some point inyour daily commute.
If that collision does happen, many insurance companies offersome kind of roadside assistanceplan to customers, often as part ofa special package or a stand-aloneservice for an additional charge.
However, recent reports haveshown that using these insurer-based services may ultimatelylead to higher insurance premi-ums. Those same reports alsobring to light the often-over-
looked manufacturer-based road-side assistance programs andthe many benefits they can offermotorists. Aside from having noeffect on insurance premiums, they can offer better towingoptions, a wider range of ser-vices and are almost alwaysincluded for the duration of thevehicle’s warranty, as is the casewith the plan offered by FordMotor Company.
“We like to think of our Road-side Assistance Program as aparamedic for your car,” said FordCustomer Service Division’sGeorge Gilbert.
The program is available onevery new vehicle the companyoffers, be it a lease or purchase. Itcomes at no additional cost, it’svalid for the duration of the vehi-cle’s standard warranty and itoffers drivers a variety of servicesthat aren’t just limited to war-ranty issues.
“Many people think a manufac-turer roadside program is just toassist them if their car breaksdown, but we’re here to help ourcustomers in just about every sit-uation imaginable,” said Gilbert.
For example, towing services todealerships up to 35 miles awaycan be obtained for any purpose, including accidents. In the event ofan accident, the program offersmotorists the convenience of a sin-
gle call to help manage the may-hem, from police dispatching (ifnecessary) to towing services, emergency services and evenrepair arrangements. The plan canalso assist drivers in more benignsituations, such as a flat tire orkeys locked in a vehicle. If you runout of fuel or need a jump start, customer service representativescan coordinate with local servicesto get you back on the road withminimal delay. The service isavailable 24 hours a day, 365 daysa year and is valid anywhere inthe United States, Puerto Rico andthe U.S. Virgin Islands.
Manufacturer roadside pro-grams such as the one found atFord Motor Company offer conve-nience, confidence and reliabilityto customers in one comprehen-sive package, all while offering acost savings over many insurer-provided assistance programs.
Using a factory-based roadsideprogram can help get your car tothe people who know it best, and byinsisting on genuine original equip-ment manufacturer parts for yourrepair, you will help ensure yourvehicle is returned to its formerglory. When that unexpected colli-sion occurs, take a moment andreach for the companion that camewith your car; it’s the onboard“paramedic” that’s ready to takecare of you in your time of need.
Program Offers A Crash Course In Handling Auto Accidents
(NAPSA)—Families looking fora safe, reliable and reasonablypriced car for a college driver getbetter grades when they do theirhomework.
Automotive sites such as AutoTrader.com contain usefultools and information to help youfigure out exactly what type of caris right for you. Even before consid-ering make and model, the firststep is often deciding whether anew, used or Certified Pre-Owned(CPO) car is best for your budget.
“Certified Pre-Owned carsseem ideal for the student driv-er—offering the experience of buy-ing a new car for a used car price,”said car expert Chip Perry, Presi-dent and CEO, AutoTrader.com.
CPO cars are used, but are oftenselected for their nearly new condi-tion. They go through rigorousinspection to become certified—togain the “seal of approval”—by theoriginal manufacturer, which oftenprovides a warranty.
To some, CPO cars mean beingable to buy a luxury brand for less, while others look at it as peace ofmind. You can request the list usedduring inspection and know whatrepairs or maintenance work wasdone. Even better, many CPO pro-grams offer roadside assistance andfree maintenance.
After you’ve compiled all yourresearch on the type of car youwant, you can save time andenergy by shopping for your
car by make and model on a classified Web site such as AutoTrader.com. If you’re on atight budget, as many college stu-dents are, you can easily searchfor and compare similar cars inyour price range.
Just like at school, do yourhomework, compile the researchand then make an educated deci-sion. Applying that to buying a carwill put you a step ahead of theclass, and closer to finding yourperfect car.

Midwest Grain Systems has relocated to a
storefront in Alexandria with limited space,
and therefore is liquidating some of its in-

ongoing health issues that owner Joey An-

Both of these factors resulted in the deci-
