  • Welcome and Greetings

    Page 2

Thank you for worshipping with us at Canaan Baptist Church. The corporate life of this congregation is the true witness of the vitality of our faith. While the high point of our Christian service is to be found in the experience of Sunday worship, what we do from Monday to Saturday, speaks volumes about Canaans commitment and dedication to Christ and our community.

Canaan is a family where all of us are saved sinners hammering out our salvation under the auspices of Gods amazing grace. We are structured, but not so structured as to prevent the powerful work of the Holy Spirit to impact the life of our in-reach and outreach ministries. We are organized, but not so organized to prevent the organism, which is the Church, from bearing full life.

    We Welcome You!

A Day to Honor & Celebrate every ministry in Canaan!

    o

This year, we will have a Hallelujah Sunday to recognize, celebrate, and honor all ministries of the church on one special day, May 17, 2015. It is very important that every ministry in our church have this recognition. With this in mind, Hallelujah Sunday will be a new and exciting day in the life of Canaan, where every ministry in the church comes together in the name of congregational intimacy, with the intent of lifting up Jesus and church unity. Additionally, the worship experience will consist of the "one preacher, one church, one celebration" theme. Come out and be a part of it!

  • Good News Of Canaan (GNOC): Tell us about your call to the ministry. AH: Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek..; I was called to the ministry in 1981 with that scripture. Once I recognized the calling, I spoke with my Pastor who instructed me to be faithful, and in 1983 I was ordained an Elder in the Church of God in Christ. In my 30 years as an Ordained Elder, I served as Youth Pastor, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday morning moderator and Assistant Pastor. I received

training from several Bible colleges including Lutheran Theological Seminary.

GNOC: Whats your passion for ministry?

AH: My passion for ministry is to help those who are less fortunate and as I have been commissioned to do according to Isaiah 61: 1, preach the good news to the meek, brokenhearted and to those that are in prison, visiting those that are in hospitals, and just sharing the gospel with those who do not know Jesus. My ministry interests are: Hospital Visitation, Security, and whatever the Lord would have me to do.

GNOC: How is it serving with Pastor Bullock to help him carry out Gods vision for Canaan? AH: While serving on the Security Ministry, I helped implement procedures to ensure the safety of the pastor, first family, and the congregation at large, eliminating any undue concerns on the pastor so he can concentrate on preaching the word of God and taking care of his flock. In addition I helped ensure the safety and protection of church property, including buildings, grounds, equipment, and other assets of the church, as well as non-church property located temporarily or permanently on the church grounds.

  • WHY GOING TO CHURCH IS GOOD FOR YOU

Life Expectancy: A study found that regular churchgoers who also prayed daily or studied the Bible daily were 40 per cent less likely to have high blood pressure and live 3-5 years longer. Also, church attendance has a direct effect on reducing deviant behavior, such as drug use, violence, and delinquency among at risk youth.

Significantly Lower Risk of Depression: Clinical depression was 22% lower among those who attended religious services at least once a month compared with those who never attend. Researchers thought that, perhaps this was simply due to having strong supportive relationships.

Better Time & Life Management: People who attend church have better ability to manage time and achieve their goals. Perhaps its because we follow a God who calls us to redeem the time (Eph 5).

Better Grades / Higher Education Prospects: Church attendance is correlated with higher math, reading scores and greater educational aspirations. Church attenders are more likely to complete homework and degree programs. In business and socially, Christians are greatly respected and trusted because of their high principles. Most of them rapidly gain the respect of friends, and the trust of their colleagues at work.

Better Romantic Lives: Stanford University study that found higher levels of romantic satisfaction among women who attend religious services faithfully. Men who regularly attend Christian services have happier and stronger marriages and are more involved in the lives of their children.

A visitor recently came to one of our services; as they were walking through the foyer, they were blown away by the people who were laughing, hugging, and having fun. They finally said: Does your church throw a party in the foyer every week? A bit confused, our member said: What do you mean? Theres no party this is just normal church.

    Scholarship Ball 2015

This years Annual Scholarship Ball presented by the Youth and

College Connection of Canaan, was a Black Tie Affair and held

this year at the Hilton Crowne Plaza Hotel. The crowd was

dressed to impress, great talent was showcased, and a fantastic

time was had by all. Here are a few shots of the occasion!

    WHAT IS A MOTHER?"

A mother is someone to shelter and

    guide us,

To love us, whatever we do,

With a warm understanding and infi-

    nite patience,

    And wonderful gentleness, too.

How often a mother means swift reas-

    surance

In soothing our small, childish fears,

How tenderly mothers watch over their

    children

And treasure them all through the

    years.

The hearth of a mother is full of for-

    giveness

For any mistake, big or small,

And generous always in helping her

    family

Whose needs she has placed above all.

A mother can utter a word of compas-

    sion

And make all our cares fall away,

She can brighten a home with the

    sound of her laughter

And make life delightful and gay.

    A mother possesses incredible wisdom

    And wonderful insight and skill-

In each human heart is that one special

    corner

Which only a mother can fill!

Good News Of Canaan (GNOC): Tell us about your call to the ministry. JH: I believe it started when I was about seventeen years old. I began having thoughts about preaching

that lasted for some time. I spoke to a minister about it and moved on. I then began thinking about living a holy life. While serving in Vietnam at the age of 23, I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior and began reading the word every night for three to four hours. After much time in the word I came to understand and believe then that God was calling me to preach. It was some twenty years later that I accepted the call. GNOC: Whats your passion for ministry? JH: My passion for ministry is teaching the word so that people may spiritually grow. Preaching to give people hope and spreading the gospel to the lost, that is my passion. GNOC: How is it serving with Pastor Bullock to help him carry out Gods vision for Canaan? JH: Serving with Pastor Bullock is a blessing in so many ways, because I can see God at work in Canaan saving souls. Using the Pastor to help bring about change on Route 9. Seeing the fruit of the vision of an on-going prison ministry that changes lives- all manifestations of our core value St. Luke 4:18-19. It is truly a blessing and I am proud to serve under his leadership.
