Welcome To York!  Your personal introduction (pg.7)   Formed in 1959, it is the 3rd largest university in 

Canada with a population of around 54,000 students

CHEMISTRY 

The Chemistry building was designed by Rogers Centre architects, Rod Robbie and Michael Allen.  

It was built with a special safety feature that includes a “pop‐ up” roof that would

release an increase in pressure if an explosion ever were to occur. This feature would safe‐guard all of the buildings in the vicinity 

 

OBSERVATORY  

Two telescopes: 60cm and a 40cm Cassegrain telescope 

There are free public viewing nights every Wednesday and online viewings every Monday  FUN FACT: There are three apple trees located behind the Petrie Science and Engineering building which trace back to the very tree from which Sir Isaac Newton felt the apple fall on his head (a happening which reputedly inspired his Theory of Gravity)
