Software engineers in India, with at least two to three years of experience, are in great demand, thanks to the revival in the fortunes of the Indian IT industry. Rising from the ripple effect of the global recession from 2008 till the middle of 2010 that adversely impacted hiring of engineers, Indian IT companies are now on a massive hiring spree. Salaries too are skyrocketing as companies are vying with each other to hire and retain the best brains.
Just sample the following: at the time of its recent announcement of quarter 3 (Q3) result, the country’s largest IT firm TCS said it will hire 62,000 to 65,000 people in the financial year 2010-11 as against the company’s earlier projection of 50,000 gross additions during the year. “With this, TCS’ headcount will be more than 200,000 at the end of March 2011,” said TCS Vice-President and Global Head Human Resources Ajoy Mukherjee at the recent result announcement press meet in Mumbai.

Indian IT companies logging in high growth
In this rapidly changing IT world, it is imperative for a professional, as well as a student to keep pace with the latest developments and industry trends. In this section, we have an article about the IT industry, and its ever-changing dynamics.
While better pricing realization and cost containment has helped, Indian IT companies have also shown good volume growth. Infosys’ volume growth in the last five quarters was 5 per cent and that of TCS was 6.5 per cent. Another important indicator of market improvement is that the discretionary spends by the IT clients are coming back after the recession when they almost came to a standstill.
While the conventional cost arbitrage opportunities will continue to drive volume growth for IT vendors, discretionary expenditures on consulting, enterprise solutions, package implementations, etc, are coming back. Conventional revenue streams like application development and maintenance (ADM) which used to account for 80 to 90 per cent of the revenue for Indian IT companies are now down to around 50 per cent. To cater to growing demand Indian companies need to tackle the supply side as well. Large scale recruitments are in vogue, utilization rates of billable people have risen, and companies are spending more money in training and skill development.

The aim of our Employees First, Customers Second philosophy is to empower you to bring about a difference in the functioning of the organization – both in the business and beyond work. We firmly believe that our Employees First vision will be realized only when every HCLite becomes a transformer – and that is why we formed the Employee First Councils.
Employee First Council (EFC) is a participative and democratic forum developed for HCLites and run by HCLites. The EFCs give an opportunity to a diverse group of individuals to come together and work towards a common cause that they are passionate about. There are six Employee First Councils at HCL.
EFCs organize close to 5,000 distinctive, interesting, dazzling, intellectually stimulating, athletic, vigorous and philanthropic events, with many of these getting rave reviews and close media attention.
There are six Employee First Councils at HCL:
Grey Cells, Ambassador Council, Sports Council, Talent Council, Community Service Council, Wellness Council
Apart from these councils, there is the Women First Council, specially dedicated to women HCLites

Munna (Prateik, immeasurably natural), Shai (Monica, easygoing) dig into keema pav at a local Irani cafe. The boy’s handsome. The girl’s hot. The two would yet make for a weird couple at a restaurant in Mumbai.
The boy’s reticent, restrained, quiet, burdened by the finality of his class. He’s poor, from Darbhanga district in Bihar, a dhobi (washer-man, a profession that doesn’t exist in the First World anymore). He services Mumbai’s rich.
The girl’s chic, a non-resident Indian banker. She can afford luxuries like, what the Americans call a “sabbatical”, long leave to pursue passions like photography. A deracinated worldview accessed from the West alone, I suppose, allows her to share tea, hang out, make relaxed conversations with the boy as an equal. They’re still boy and girl. She fits in. He never forgets his boundaries. The connect remains warmly odd, oddly real, incredibly satisfying.
The film is about 90 minutes long. There is still time to observe this delicate chemistry gently play out between the two. Which storyteller will want their audiences to suddenly switch off? There is no interval. Script finally wins over the great Indian extortionist cinema snack counter. Finally!
Bombay is the centre of this film’s attention. It’s probably the only city in the world where so many classes so closely merge into a common river of sorrows, beauty or hope: unaware of how each affects the other every day.
I step out of the theatre; feeling slightly quiet in the head, walk straight into the noisy city this film is set in. Popular songs play for background score in my cab. The busy street has people rushing, as usual, for God knows where: each unique within a mass. The chatty cabby shares with me some story of Aamir Khan, of all people. We still have something in common, for only a moment, of course. It seemed a scene from Dhobi Ghat!
