His message was based on 2 Timothy 2:2-4 where Paul writes to Timothy telling him that he cannot be entangled by the things of this world if he wants to live for Christ. Ps Daniel used a sarong to demonstrate how restric- tive it is for one to run while being entangled in something. He told us that before King David was king, he was just an ordinary shepherd boy who was not afraid when he faced Goliath. He also said that if we are going to defeat our ‘giant’, we have to go TOWARDS it and NOT TO BE AFRAID . We shouldn’t run, but instead we should embrace it. We sang ‘Friend Of God’ and every- one danced and sang their lungs out. At the very end, Ps Daniel asked us a question that we should all ask ourselves, “Do we really know God, or just ABOUT God?” . Richard Joseph The rain poured as I walked into the hall. We were wet, cold and restless as we found our seats. Rev Gideon Lee walked onto the stage to set the ground rules. He said he would ‘baptize’ our handphones and torchlights if any of us were to ddle with either one. I quickly switched o my handphone and hid my torch- light. Then we got to watch the high- lights from the rst day of camp on video. Funny stu! Finally, it was time to worship God! Singing lled the hall as we joined our voices to praise our Lord God. Oh what a feeling it was to stand together with all my friends in worship! As the song ‘Be Lifted Higher’ began to play, I could feel the presence of our Master Ranger in our midst. Rev Gideon Lee invited people to recommit their lives to Christ at the altar. I jumped at the chance. At the corner of my eye, I could see that I wasn’t the only one stepping forward. We reached the front and were prayed for by the commanders and counselors. I could feel my troubles and worries slowly go away and again felt the great touch of the Holy Spirit. When we were done, Selangor #7 presented their absolutely amazing drama starring Anusha, her trash, and ‘Jesus’. Simple yet powerful. That message taught me that sometimes we don’t want to give our ‘trash’ to Jesus for the fear of the unknown. It also showed me that most of the time, we’re actually aware of our actions when doing wrong, yet we just don’t want to admit it or let it go because we enjoy it. The drama also showed me that when we do give everything to Him, we don’t just feel free, but we are free because we have already been forgiven. We just need to learn to forgive ourselves. Our speaker for the night, Ps Daniel Ross was welcomed with much cheer. I nd him to be a lively, funny, and ‘youthful’ pastor who can really NUTSCRAPER! Time to beat for the ER is 7s. DODGE MASTERS FINALS!

EPIC SHOWDOWN As the commanders yelled into the microphone, the games o#cially began! The second day had been !lled with lots of fun and exciting activities. Many awesome games were held in the !eld. Camp-ers of all ages took part in the games.

A popular favourite was the ‘Bump-2-Bump’, a game where two teams consisting of four members each are to kick a ball and score it in their respective goals. It’s just like a football game except with a twist! Players are to be strapped up in an orb ball while playing! My friends and I just had to try it out!

Even before the game had begun, we started bumping into each other making a few of us topple and roll over the !eld. The other camp-ers who were waiting for their turn to play, started laughing and cheer-ing while watching us roll and topple over each other.

When the referee threw the football up into the air, we ran as fast as we could towards him trying to kick the ball. One of the players, who managed to kick the ball !rst, quickly dribbled it towards his goal but slipped and fell. But he got right back up and continued playing the game!

‘Bump-2-Bump’ was not about wining or loosing, it was more about having fun with our friends.

PERAK  C I T Y  DAYJOHOR  C I TY  DAY

WHO WILL IT BE – KELANTAN OR JOHOR?

HONK HONK HONK HONK….

Heads turned wondering what was causing the ruckus. Tra#c on the road parted as a long parade of tinted cars rolled into the entrance of Lego Land. And like true Malaysian style, the VIP was late, fashionably late. Out steps His Majesty, Sultan of Johor, Nelson Suresh and his lovely wife Datin Siti Nurhaliza to o#ciate the opening of Lego Land, !rst in Malaysia.

Lego Land is a Malaysian pride, at least now we have an equivalent to Singapore’s Universal Studios. Constant rivals, Johor and Singapore continue this love hate relationship even to this day. The judges visiting Johor city were treated to a taste of Singaporean rivalry as an abrupt Singaporean named ‘Sunshine’ kept barging in

for photo opportunities with the Sultan. It was obvious that Singapore wanted a tinge of fame at this momentous ceremony.

The judges and visitors were given passports at the entrance of the state and gum to chew in case deprived Singaporeans visited the state. Next, they were treated with a skit of a boy named Badang, a famous warrior of Johor and enjoyed the sight and sounds of the traditional Kuda Kepang dance.

They were even taught how to play a local kampung favourite sport named sepak takraw. Unable to resist, Stefan Fani Fischer played a game of sepak takraw with local champs.

Working up an appetite, the judges were ushered into the royal dining room for a meal

with the Sultan and his beautiful wife. There they were treated to live music on the kompang and a three-course meal. First starting with otak-otak, a Malaysian !sh and prawn cake served either grilled or fried. Stefan gave thumbs up and exclaimed, “I loved the brains the most!”. Then they had Johor Laksa a dry spicy noodle gravy dish and ending with sweet Johor pineapple. All this was washed down with the delicious juice of a burned coconut.

Finally, the judges were given chewing gum to ease any indigestion. Prior to ushering the judges out, the Johorian immigration o#cers sternly warned, “Spit that gum out, you are entering Singapore”.

As the sun’s !erce rays blazed over the land of Perak, campers were treated with a great cooling wind of change as they entered the enchanting Gua Tempurung. The cave was an extravagant entrance to the city’s premises itself.

Upon exiting the cave, an aroma strong enough to tingle all !ve senses of the human body, instantly !lled the air. We knew it came from none other than the famed Ipoh White Co"ee. Rumored to be the original founders of the Ipoh White Co"ee, Kedai Kopi Leng Chai was packed with customers speci!cally there to try out their famous co"ee and the mouth-watering Chee Cheong Fun.

Kedai Kopi Leng Chai, a Chinese family run business passed down from generations had mother daughter, father son, uncle and aunty working under one roof. As any typical Chinese

kopitiam, the environment was intense as waiters scramble to control the swelling crowd. Nonetheless, the energy and enthusi-asm from ‘handsome’ waiters as the kopitiam’s name suggests, merrily greeted customers with Chee Cheong Fun and co"ee ready for consumption.

“This city day brings back fond memories,” said Gary Chow of Sarawak City. “The Chee Cheong Fun and Ipoh White Co"ee tastes exactly like the ones from Ipoh!” he exclaimed while adding that his mother’s hometown is Ipoh.

Kopitiam in Ipoh plays a vital role in Perak’s history. Said to be the ‘gossip palace’, everyone knows the ‘what and who’ from conversations between regular customers. With Teresa Ting’s songs faintly playing in the background, karaoke sessions are inevitable. Some even

suggest that, karaoke was !rst started from incidents such as this.

Apart from its old kopitiam, Perak boasts a wide mixture of activities and attractions that brought the city to life! Campers were able to experience the traditional way of tin mining and game such as the sepak bulu ayam - an exiting activity where campers attempt to juggle a feathered ball. Last but not least, Tan Ah Beng Pomelo stall was a crowd puller as campers were able to taste the sweet and juicy pomelo all the way from Perak!

Perak city day was truly an experience not to be missed. With every possible activity and attractions o"ered by Perak, one really does not need to go to the real Perak to experience the very best the state. True story.
