Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of my Director Colleagues on the Board and the entire management, I congratulate all
of you on this momentous occasion of the 54th Foundation day of Engineers India Ltd, a day when
we complete 53 memorable years of our service to the nation.
The EIL success story is such as everyone associated with it can be justifiably proud of. This is not
the story of an individual, you have all sweated it out to make it come alive and I gratefully
acknowledge the contribution each one of you has made to it. A great corporate guru once said,
“We may not have it all together, but together we can have it all.” Howsoever great a vision is,
if we work together, we can translate it into reality and that’s what the EIL family has achieved
during last 53 years.
Global macro-economic conditions witnessed a recessionary sentiment during the last few years,
adversely impacting our business as well as our order book position. That gloomy phase is over
and the horizon is lit by an optimistic radiance. However, global recovery, a series of reforms in
domestic hydrocarbon sector, kick-start of stalled projects and announcement of new projects in
the domestic market coupled with the tireless efforts put across by all of you in the company, the
business position has started looking up and from the low order inflow of Rs 1154 Crores in
2013-14, we have managed to secure a historic high new order inflow of Rs 5687 Crores in
2016-17. As of today we have a comfortable and healthy order-book of around Rs 8200 Crores.
It is said that “Without execution, ‘Vision’ is just another word for hallucination.” A robust order
book is undoubtedly a matter to rejoice in, but it is accompanied with formidable challenges.
It calls for successful operational execution of the orders already secured by the company in
order to maintain its image and standing and for securing repeat orders and new assignments so
that the advantage gained by the company is not only preserved but gets a welcome push. Today,
the expectations of the clients are very high and these expectations can we met only with higher
level of commitments across the board. I also expect you to lead from the front and put up
increased proactive and relentless efforts for timely execution of these assignments.
The company has a well-defined vision. However, concrete steps need to be taken to attain the
stated goals. I have no doubt that we shall rapidly move ahead if we focus on the following areas:
1. Timely implementation of the projects already in the pipeline, which holds a key to
EIL’s success
2. Addressing and plugging gaps in EIL’s otherwise robust systems and processes
3. Strengthening EIL’s core business area while diversifying selectively in areas we can
leverage our engineering strength
4. Consolidating EIL’s standing overseas in countries where we are already present
5. Creating learning environment in the company where every individual is abreast with the
latest in technology
These are simple but extremely critical steps for the company’s growth. We only need to
remember our founding fathers, a team of visionary and committed people. They lacked
experience, but their passion amply and adequately filled in the gaps. The beginning was
extremely modest but they laid a solid foundation, and look where the company is today.
If they could, so can we. All we need to do today is to take a fresh guard and recommit ourselves.
As a team there is nothing that we cannot achieve. I assure you complete management support in
all constructive endeavors.
I once again thank each and every one of EIL family and congratulate you on this auspicious day
when we renew our resolve for working towards the common goals of taking this company to
new highs with complete zeal and enthusiasm.
