Campfire Notes Penn-York Camp and Retreat Center Oct - 2018 Wow, it seems like I was just writing in the campfire notes that spring was just arriving and now fall is here. Penn-York has had a busy spring/summer and time flew by us all here in the office. I can say my favorite part of the spring and summer has been watching all the kids (young and old) enjoy the new playground. This has been my first Summer camp to watch go by, as well. I was impressed with Malari and all the staff that worked with her. They really showed campers their True hearts for Jesus. Crissie Koester Summer Camp 2018 TrueWhat a privilege it was to serve at camp this year and witness the joy of staff and campers as they explored the world that God created. It was a summer full of night games, waterslide splashes, zip lining, campfires, delicious meals, bible digs, worship, and learning about Je- sus! Every year I walk away from camp having learned something, and I hope this is what the staff and campers feel as well. The lesson that struck me the most this summer is the im- portance of fellowship. God does not call us to remain silent and alone. He instead calls us to work together and share our gifts, to take part in serving others, to let his light shine through us, and to show His working hand. Above else, He calls for us to love others unconditionally. If any camper left this summer having learned something themselves, it is with sincerity that I wish for them to know that they are so extraordinarily loved. Although this summer pre- sented many challenges God displayed his never-ending faithfulness through His staff and campers. I want to thank each of you who prayed for us this summer; your support helped further Gods mission at Penn-York to share Gods love with everyone. -Malari Lapp

Penn York Camp at 50

Nearly fifty years, ago a small group in Potter County was inspired to commence a project that would eventually be known as PENN - YORK CAMP AND RETREAT CENTER. The inspiration, as the word states

“Spirit led”, was dedicated to bringing people of all ages to know Jesus Christ.

The scope of Penn-York Camp has grown in many directions, yet still has Christ as its focus.

All are invited to participate in a weekend celebration May 3-5, 2019 at the camp. If you or a loved one has experienced any activity at the camp from a retreat, a dinner, summer camp, the Auction or the

challenge course or any other of the myriad activities offered, you will find the weekend or any part of it a time to reconnect, be re-inspired and hopefully renew your faith in Jesus Christ, give thanks and

enjoy the many activities planned. There will be tours, music, games and don’t forget to try (or at least watch someone) on the challenge course.

If you have not visited the camp recently or have had less involvement, come and be reintroduced to all that is happening.

We welcome your remembrance of experiences at camp. Share them through FACEBOOK, the camp website pennyork.com, email [email protected] or good old fashioned US Mail.

Watch for information at the above sites. There will be dining and lodging packages and some EARLY BIRD discounts. We are looking forward to hearing from you and greeting you in MAY!

God Bless! Fran Reilly

PYC Quilting with Mim

NOVEMBER 9-11, 2018

I am excitedly looking forward to the fall retreat! (Have I ever not been

excited?) According to the inquiries and responses I ’ve already had concerning this retreat, it looks like we may have a full house!! I

always look forward to being able to meet new friends and re-connect with former ones. This project is so much fun, I just know you ’re going to love it. You will have the option of making the amazing disappearing pinwheel and/or the disappearing hourglass. Both of these designs are

made using the same technique. Once you have your pinwheel or hourglass made, you cut it apart and re-design it. There are so many

design options, you can have fun “playing” for hours!

The Latest Prayer Force Update

Psalm 108: 1-5 My heart, O God, is steadfast; I will sing and make music with all my soul. Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

Psalm 108: 11-12 Is it not you, God, you who have rejected us and no longer go out with our armies? Give us aid against the ene-my, for human help is worthless.

Hello Friends,

As I did my devotions the other day, I was struck by these verses. I thought back over Israel’s history and how they continually tried to take things into their own hands. When it wouldn’t work out they would cry out to God for help, and then once He delivered them, they would forget His leading and fall right back into another messy situ-ation. Then I thought about how I am not really all that different. How often do I forget to seek God’s leading first, and instead press on in my own strength? Then when all goes south I cry out to God seeking deliverance and guidance. That got me wondering…what if I awakened the dawn every morning with my soul praising my God? What if my heart is steadfast even when everything is going well? What would my life look like if I allowed God to guide and direct me through the highs so that when the lows come; I am already in the center of His will. That, is a lifestyle worth pursuing.

We want the same thing for camp. We don’t want to run camp in our own strength, but to seek God’s guid-ance and to rely on Him through every season. This month the board of directors will be discussing the future of PYC. As many of you know, the camp needs to start generating more income to cover ever increasing costs. However, in all of that we don’t want to lose track of our mission to come alongside the church in developing ded-icated followers of Jesus Christ. Please pray for wisdom for the board of directors as they work to develop a plan for the future of PYC. Pray also that we keep our focus and our mission where it needs to be.

Praises –

We are busy! Nearly every weekend this past month has been filled, and this coming month looks very busy.

The challenge course groups that came in September all had a great time. This is a huge praise because

the rain has made our challenge course very wet. Prayer Requests –

Pray for all of us as staff. Pray that we remember who we are serving as we minister here.

October schedule is very busy. We have groups in every weekend, as well as many challenge course

groups scheduled throughout the weeks. Please pray we can be a light for Jesus to all of these groups, and that their stay at PYC would be a good one.

Pray for wisdom for Dennis and I as we do maintenance. We have a lot to do, and the rain has been slowing

us down quite a bit.

As mentioned above, our challenge course is wet. I can’t get a lawn mower into it because it is so wet.

Please pray for some drying weather, and that the rain would hold off when our groups are here.

Please pray for our board of directors as they plan for the long term future of camp.

Please continue to keep Kyrie Schrock in your prayers. Pray that insurance is accepted and Kyrie is able to get

into the Cleveland Clinic. If you are interested, you can read Kyrie’s most recent blog post by Clicking Here.

Please pray for the communities in the Potter, Tioga County areas. Many places close by have been hit very

hard with flooding.

Thanks so much for your prayers. You have an incredibly vital role to the ministry here.

Thanks, Jed Gehman
