Al-Rushaid added that the cost of the seismic survey will be US $185 million for two years and expressed great optimism over the expected results. KOC has launched the first phase of the highly-accurate Seismic Survey Project that uses unilateral receivers. The project covers a total area of 4,500 square kilometers in the north of Kuwait.

The project, one of the world’s largest and the first to use this technology in Kuwait, is aimed at exploring light oil and natural gas reservoirs from the Jurassic era.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony launching the new techniques using digital technology in the oil and gas seismic survey in north Kuwait, C&MD Sami Al-Rushaid said,

“The survey will be conducted with 3D accuracy and provide highly accurate data while covering an extremely large area while using a record 220,000 receivers.”

“This project falls in line with the KOC 2030 Strategy to add 750,000 barrels of light oil and 1.5 billion square feet of gas to its current daily production,” he said.

A farewell ceremony was recently held at GC-11 in honor of DMD Administration & Finance Khaled Al-Khamees. A number of DMDs, Managers, Team Leaders and a host of Company employees were present during the event.In a touching speech delivered on the occasion, Al-Khamees stated that GC-11 carries significant symbolism to him personally because it was there that he began his career with KOC. He added that KOC taught him and shaped his personality.Al-Khamees noted that he had mixed feelings as he leaves the Company where he spent almost thirty years, during which he rose through the ranks until he became DMD for Administration & Finance, a post he described as his “PhD.”

In coordination with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, Kuwait Oil Company’s Exploration Group recently organized a workshop under the theme of “Digital Single Sensors: Past, Present and Future.” The event was attended by a group of experts in the field of geophysics and representatives from major regional and international oil companies.Exploration Group Manager Ahmad Al-Eidan stated that the workshop

KOC C&MD Sami Al-Rushaid recently reiterated that awareness of the rules and regulations of safe driving was an issue of the utmost importance. He maintained that the growing number of vehicles on the roads and the difficulty to cope with this phenomenon requires all to join hands in order to limit the painful loss resulting from traffic accidents. Upon launching the KOC-organized campaign on Safe Driving, which is intended to increase employees’ and contractors’ awareness on the importance of observing safety rules, Al-Rushaid underscored that the Company was able to reduce the average of traffic accidents throughout inner roads last year to zero. In a related development, the Assistant Under-Secretary of the Ministry

of Interior for Traffic affairs, Dr. Mustafa Al-Zaabi, thanked KOC’s Management for launching the Safe Driving Campaign and hailed its active role in reducing the number of traffic accidents within its operation zones and the continuous support it accords to the MOI with the aim of enhancing traffic rules awareness. DMD (WK) Captain Ahmad Al-Rasheed said that KOC’s Management has been preparing for this for some time and added that it was a shared responsibility to help overcome the traffic problem and spread awareness among drivers. An exhibition of the companies supporting the MOI’s efforts to limit the number of accidents was also organized on the sidelines of the Safe Driving Campaign.

Commerical Support Group Holds Awareness Session

New HSE Performance Provisions Detailed

The Commercial Support Group recently held an Awareness Session to explain the new HSE provisions to key users from the Company’s concerned Teams and Groups which will be included in KOC contracts with the objective of improving the HSE performance for Company contractors.While the new Performance Provisions will provide a range of incentives to reward contractors for high standards of HSE performance, they will consider the contractor financially accountable for poor HSE performance. These provisions will be included in all new tenders and existing contracts meeting the qualification criteria.The purpose of the Awareness Session was to provide key employees from Major Projects Groups I, II & III, Contracts Group, Asset Owners and the Company’s three PMC’s with an opportunity to have a comprehensive

understanding of company objectives in introducing the new Provisions and benefits expected from their implementation within KOC’s current and future contracts. The illustrated presentations included examples of the KPIs and Scorecards which will be used in the assessment of contractor performance. The speakers at the Awareness Session included Ibrahim Faraj, Manager Commercial Support Group, Mahmoud Al-Damkhi, Team Leader Studies and Strategic Supply, Mohamed Sadek, TPL-I Senior Contracts Specialist, Karl Hopkins, Attorney at Law, SNR Denton, and Merv Mackay, Consultant, AMEC, an Engineering Consultancy and Project Management group.

Awareness Sessions Held for Kuwaiti Employees109 Employees Take Part

In coordination with the HSE Systems Team, the Contracts Manpower Kuwaitization Team recently conducted two awareness sessions on Defensive Driving and two Office and Home Safety campaigns at the KOC HSE Induction Center. The workshops were meant to train Kuwaiti Personnel under Company contracts as part of the Team’s obligations.

At least 109 Kuwaiti employees from various teams throughout the Company attended the sessions.

The cooperation between the Contracts Manpower Kuwaitization Team and HSE Systems Team will continue to enhance the Kuwaitization program.

KOC Implements Green Hat Program A Safe Working Environment for All

Awareness Session on Preserving the EnvironmentEvent Conducted in Coordination with KFSD

The Safety Team (HSE Group) recently conducted a series of workshops covering all KOC Assets and Directorates to enhance and support the implementation of the Green Hat Program that is in use by both KOC teams and contractors. The program was intended to provide staff with enhanced levels of awareness that conform with the KOC commitment to ensure a safe working atmosphere for newly appointed employees, contractors and visitors within the Training, Awareness and Continued HSE Learning Process which covers the deployment and movement of new employees and KOC contractors and visitors (including VIPs & Senior Management) to any asset/facility of the Company. The implementation of the Green Hat Program will ensure that new employees and visitors will be well aware of the appropriate HSE knowledge in order to:• Enhance awareness about the hazards and risks at working sites and

KOC believes in the importance of creating awareness to maintain the environment. In this regard, the HSE Team of the Export and Marine Operations Group, in coordination with the Kuwait Fire Brigade, recently organized a campaign at the Julai’a Camps checkpoint which distributed information to people that detailed safe practices to be followed while camping which will ensure the environment is treated in a sustainable manner.KOC has also provided guidelines on how to maintain the land in order to

reduce environmental damage due to camping. Booklets/brochures on the use of fire extinguishers and how to deal with fire hazards were distributed in order to ensure that the environment is free of pollution. KOC officials said they sincerely appreciated the participation of Khalil Al-Amir, Lieutenant Colonel of the Fire Service Directorate, during the campaign. For his part, Al-Amir expressed sincere gratitude to Kuwait Oil Company for its efforts to educate the community by conducting such campaigns.

“Management of Waterfloods” Workshop Conducted by FDSEK

A one day workshop titled “Management of Waterfloods” was recently conducted for 12 Subsurface Engineers and Geologists in what constitutes an internal initiative of the Fields Development of South and East Kuwait to boost the knowledge and skills of its personnel in key topics of this Group. The workshop was opened by Manager FD SEK, Jamal Al-Humoud, who highlighted the importance of the activity where the knowledge of the experts of the Group will be shared not only on a day-to-day basis but also through structured learning activities like workshops and mentoring sessions. The workshop was also attended by personnel from the Fields Development Team (UG) from FD West Kuwait, and from the Reservoir Studies Team of FD North Kuwait. The instructor, FD (S&EK) Sr. Consultant Thai Vu from the Greater

Burgan Studies Team engaged the participants in the application of the main theoretical and practical aspects of waterflood, including some exercises with real data that challenged the participants to apply their best in a hands-on approach. The participants expressed very positive feedback on the content, exercises and the learning they obtained while attending this activity. Team Leader Greater Burgan Studies, Farida Ali, expressed her satisfaction and encouraged the participants to gain the most from the activity. The “Management of Waterfloods” workshop is the first of a series of learning activities that were initiated to enhance the knowledge transfer from the experts of the Fields Development South and East Kuwait Group to their peers and colleagues.

The Water Handling Team (S&EK) recently conducted a safety campaign titled “Safer Chemical Management” at Kuwait Oasis.The Campaign was attended by Team Leaders from various teams and approximately 100 employees from various groups. The campaign included several presentations and demonstrations to raise awareness on safety precautions to be taken while handling different types of chemicals in the field as well as at home. The topics covered in the campaign helped the operation staff from various Gathering Centers, Booster Stations and EWDP’s in gaining awareness on the safety

measures to be taken while storing, transporting or using these chemicals.Team Leader Water Handling (SEK) Issa Al-Jadi delivered a speech expressing gratitude and appreciation to the officials of various teams and employees for their active participation in the campaign. A quiz was then held thereafter and prizes were distributed to the winners of the quiz at the end of the session.The campaign emphasized KOC’s commitment to establish and practice the KOC Safety Policy, Codes, Standards and Procedures in all day-to-day operations.

The HSE Team (WK) recently conducted a presentation for the students of the Environment Technology Management Department (Girls) in order to familiarize them with Health, Safety and Environment issues at the office and in the home.

The presentation was conducted by HSE TL Ismael Mataqi at the Guest House in Ahmadi and was based on KOC’s obligations and responsibilities towards the society.

The main part of the presentation focused on safe driving, and a documentary was shown on a number of injury cases at Al-Razi Hospital as a result of traffic incidents.

KOC Organizes Beach Clean-Up at Abu HalifaEmployees, Students Take Part in Campaign

KOC recently organized the sixth annual campaign to clean the Abu Halifa coastline, which falls under the framework of a campaign to preserve the GCC’s marine environment. A number of Ambassadors to Kuwait and a large number of students took part in the campaign, with the stated aim of strengthening the culture of preserving the environment. In a speech he delivered on the occasion, KOC C&MD Sami Al-Rushaid maintained that the civilization and progress of nations was measured by their commitment towards the environment. He shed light on the achievements of KOC employees over the past year, which included voluntary work such as cleaning Kubbar Island and its shores, cleaning the shores of Green Island, and an awareness campaign aimed at families camping in the desert.Al-Rushaid commended the campaign’s participants, which included individuals from the Autism Center, those with special needs, schools in all districts from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Interior, the Public Authority for the Environment, the General Fire Fighting Department, and various subsidiaries of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.
