Focusing on academic achievement, the Cambridge Primary series is an ideal resource for any international or bilingual school. Cambridge Global English, Primary Mathematics and Primary Science are all written with English as a Second Language (ESL) learners in mind and focus on developing language, knowledge and skills across English, Maths and Science.

The series offers the full advantage of being developed alongside Cambridge International Examinations, whilst still being compatible with other curricula. Cambridge Primary is suitable for any primary school looking for an innovative and fl exible suite of materials.

Designed to set the foundations for future learning, Cambridge Primary sets clear goals for learners and teachers, and provides carefully structured questions, tasks and end-of-unit tests to help build students’ confi dence and help teachers monitor progress.

What is Cambridge Global English? Cambridge Global English is an innovative suite of materials created for young English as a Second language learners.

Cambridge Global English Stages 1–6 completes the series and is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the internationally recognised standard for language development.

To meet the challenges of the future, children need to develop both conversational and academic English from the earliest level. Cambridge Global English addresses these needs and focuses on developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills which learners will need to be successful.

Spanning 8 stages, Stages 1–6 are tailored specifi cally for Primary levels and provide a seamless transition to Cambridge Global English Stages 7 and 8 at Secondary level.

Stages 1–6:

ü Are made up of 6 themes of 6 individual lessons.

ü Follow the curriculum developed for Cambridge International Examinations by Cambridge English Language Assessment, the world leader in qualifi cations for learners and teachers of English.

ü Are mapped to CEFR with defi ned learning outcomes which helps teachers track progress.

ü Incorporate learning strategies for basic language learning and developing learners’ critical thinking skills.

ü Focus on developing learners’ conversational and academic English.

ü Provide grammatical support and explanations to further support ESL learners and teachers.

ü Promote an enquiry-based approach with features such as “The big question” at the start of every unit.

ü Offer a range of activities provided to suit different levels of ability.

ü Include authentic listening and reading texts with factual and fi ctional extracts, dialogue and poetry from around the world.

ü Are written by experienced authors who are experts in young learner teaching methodology and/or are practising teachers and teacher-trainers.

FAQs

ü The Cambridge University Press Primary series seems to be written to a high level. Why is this?

ü This is because the series follows the globally recognised Cambridge International Curriculum. Although it may initially appear challenging, the skills-led, enquiry-based approach means that teachers will be able to help their pupils to attain the appropriate international standards of achievement.

ü Is there enough material to last for a whole school year? Is it too much material for the school year?

ü The course is very fl exible; it may be used alongside or in support of other curricula, and the thematic/ unit approach allows schools to adapt it to their needs.

ü At what level is each stage?

ü Cambridge Global English is based on the CEFR: Stages 1–6. See below for details of each stage:

ü As Cambridge Primary Science and Mathematics are also ‘language controlled’, they correspond to levels A1 to A2. Although the language levels do not comprise the content, they do refl ect the language skills needed to access the content.

Stage 1 : towards A1 Stage 2 : towards A1 Stage 3 : A1

Stage 4 : towards A2 Stage 5 : A2 Stage 6 : A2 towards B1
