The tour was planned to go to coorg and Mysore for three days and two nights. All our classmates except few who had their unavoidable reasons pitched in for the trip. We left on 4th of August 2017 to Central Railway Station where the train got delayed by few hours, which was then turned out to be a blessing where we got enough time for all our friends to gather in and start having fun since then. We left for Bangalore and reached Coorg by 4.00PM on 5th of August 2017. We went to our resort named ‘Palm Valley Resort’. We had camp fire on that evening. And on the next day, we visited many places in Coorg which was cleanly organised and well planned. We experienced the nature so close and it was very different from our climatic conditions. The areas were so flourished and blessed with water. One can feel nature so close and all the creatures in it. They were unharmed by the influence of technology. The Abbey falls we visited was so beautiful. The water rushing from the top of the hill to the bottom was such a feast to our eyes. We walked one and a half kilometers to see the falls and it was worth the walk. And on our way back we could barely see the trees on either side of the road as they were swallowed by the fog.We then had an opportunity to visit the Mysore palace and got to know more about our cultural heritage of India. The Tippu Sultan’ dungeon was one of the places which has to be recognized by all our Indians and behind that was the great Kauveri river flowing with it’s full mighty power, surrounded by prosperous trees and bushes. Then to pay our gratitude we visited St.Philomena’ Church and spent our time to thank for our safe trip and reported to Chennai back by 8th of August 2017.

FAREWELL 2017

ALUMNI TALK

Farewell-Day is when the door to the past is closed and the door to the future is opened. It is not only a ceremony which marks the end of college life, but also a power booster to compete with the practical world with confidence. The farewell for the batch 2013-2017 was given by their juniors on 29th of March 2017. Beulah Anne Mary and Prince were the farewell coordinators. The ceremony began with the prayer song. The final years were given chances to write their confessions, messages for the class and filled the charts with their signatures. The most awaited part of the farewell was the theme show which revolved around college life. Students enjoyed the day with cake cutting and fun filled games such as connections and damaal dumeel. Comical part of the day was the ‘Mock Awards’ session which grabbed everyone’s breath. As each student received his/her Mock Award a short PowerPoint presentation about them was displayed. Mr. Thomas Mathew gave out the awards. The ceremony successfully ended with messages from their class advisor, other EEE staff and head of the department.

March 29, 2017, one of the most important day in my college life, my farewell. Hundreds of memories made on a single day. The day started with selfies and groupies. We were making fun at each other during the common farewell. The traditional costumes added more color to the day. Our department farewell was more emotional with our professors and juniors. The spectacle enacted by our juniors about college life was remarkable. Performance by my classmates made us burst into laughter. The hall was filled with the atmosphere of joy and excitement. We never had the feeling that we were going to depart until we came to the end of the day. Everyone’s heart started to melt and had no words to console each other. With the best combo of tears in eyes and smiles in lips and hope of meeting again, we departed. Miss my college days a lot.

AshmithaEEE 2013-2017

It started with all departments being together dressed colorfully and then led to the department farewell by our juniors. It was great and wonderful. We had much fun and made beautiful memories that day. I would like to thank our juniors and staff who made our day special by putting so much effort and entertained us. All songs and the act which they presented and the game of asking sorry and conveying thanks to friends brought out a good feel while bidding bye to college. Finally the day ended with the cake cutting, dance and taking pictures with all. It was a blissful day with so much happiness, little sorrow and more memories. Best day to remember in life!

Innovative CornerIR CONTROLLED REMOTE CAR

IR, or infrared, communication is a common, inexpensive, and easy to use wireless communication technology. IR light is very similar to visible light, except that it has a slightly longer wavelength. This means IR is undetectable to the human eye - perfect for wireless communication. For example, when you hit a button on your TV remote, an IR LED repeatedly turns on and off, 38,000 time a second, to transmit information (like volume or channel control) to an IR photo sensor on your TV.A transmitter is often a light emitting diode (LED) which is built into the pointing end of the remote control handset. The infrared light pulses form a pattern unique to that button. The receiver in the device recognizes the pattern and causes the device to respond accordingly. The main component used here is the IR sensor circuit consisting of TSOP. Using a TSOP IR receiver we can start and stop the DC motor vehicle. However this circuit has a small disadvantage that it can’t control the speed of DC car motor, rather it ON and OFF the small dc motors. The car works using an IR remote controlling an Arduino module fitted to a chassis of the car. The Arduino is programmed beforehand to receive signals from the remote and act accordingly. Once the signals are received it uses the code to run the motors in the respective manner. Therefore the main component that requires precision is the coding. The applications are that they can be used to scope out areas inaccessible by humans and can be used to make toys. The scope of improvement is that these IR controlled cars can be miniaturized to check breakage in pipes and drainage systems.

Sushmitha, Swetha & Jagadeash (II EEE)

AUTOMATIC SOIL TEMPERATURE SENSING

AND WATERING The main purpose of this project is to water plants automatically without human intervention. The overall operation is controlled using pic microcontroller. The input to the circuit is single phase AC supply and the output is the water being pumped. The inputs from temperature sensor and water level sensor are given to the micro controller .Based on the input signals the micro controller circuit sends output signals to the relay circuit and LCD display. Based on the signals from the triggering circuit and micro controller, the relay circuit switches on and switches off the motor pump. The water pump is switched on and off based on the signal from triggering circuit and relay. This project is very useful for the busy working people who have the desire to grow plants in their garden. Since these people have a tight schedule, they forget to water the plants. As the result, the plants become dry and leads to death of the plants. So if they have this set up in their homes, it will be very helpful to save the extinction of our green environment and further help in growing more plants. So that we could make a ‘BETTER WORLD’ with more plants.

E-ROOME-room is meant for domestic users. By using e-room, the domestic users can control all the electronic devices like TV, fan, light, etc., this will indeed make their life smart and sophisticated. Our main aim is to save power. Working of this project is easily understandable. With the press of any button from IR Remote, the remote sends a code in form of train of encoded pulses using 38 KHz modulating frequency. These pulses are received by TSOP1738 sensor and read by Arduino. Then, the Arduino decodes received train of pulse into a hexadecimal value and compares that decoded value with the predefined hexadecimal value of the pressed button. If any match occurs then Arduino perform relative operation. In our project, we have used 2 bulbs of different colors for demonstration. There are many types of IR Remote available for different device but most of them works in the range of 38 KHz. The possibilities of this project are endless. Various loads can be added to this device and functions can be created in order to control several at once. The main aim of this project is to control all appliance using any IR remote.

BLIND STICKThe blind stick is a good helper of visually impaired person. This blind stick automatically detects the obstacle in front of the person and gives a response to the person in the form of a warning sound. By using this blind person can be aware about the obstacles in front of him. Detection of obstacle was carried out by ultrasonic sensors and these sensors are controlled by microcontroller based Arduino board. Trigger, eco, Vcc and Gnd are the pins of ultrasonic sensor. Vcc will be given a 5V supply. Positive terminal of the buzzer is connected to any of the 14 digital pins and its negative terminal is connected to the ground. Trigger produces infinite number of ultrasonic waves. These waves’ bounces on hitting on opaque object (obstacle) and now the bounced waves will be received by the eco pin of sensor. This eco pin sends signal to the microcontroller and makes the device active which in turn sends the signal to the buzzer for warning purpose. The coding will be provided in such a way that the buzzer should ring when the sensor detects the obstacle at a distance of 15cm.

OBSTACLE FOLLOWING ROBOTThe Line Follower sensor is an add-on for your Arduino that gives your robot the ability to detect lines or nearby objects. The sensor works by detecting reflected light coming from its own infrared LED. By measuring the amount of reflected infrared light, it can detect transitions from light to dark (lines) or even objects directly in front of it. The sensor has a 3-pin header which connects directly to the Arduino Mainboard via female to female jumper wires. Use the included library to detect lines or objects. A mounting hole lets you easily connect one or more of these to the front or back of your robot chassis.L293D is a typical Motor driver or Motor Driver IC which allows DC motor to drive on either direction. L293D is a 16-pin IC which can control a set of two DC motors simultaneously in any direction. It means that you can control two DC motor with a single L293D IC.It works on the concept of H-bridge. H-bridge is a circuit which allows the voltage to be flown in either direction. As you know voltage need to change its direction for being able to rotate the motor in clockwise or anticlockwise direction, Hence H-bridge IC are ideal for driving a DC motor. In a single L293D chip there are two h-Bridge circuit inside the IC which can rotate two dc motor independently. Due its size it is very much used in robotic application for controlling DC motors.Sensor technology is widely used now a days for various applications. A lot of the products we see around us use sensors. In this particular application, sensors are used to detect and follow objects. The sensors work along with the arduino board to make the robot function as required. Two sensors are placed on the robot. The sensors detect the range of the objects and sends signals to the arduino board. The code makes the bot move accordingly.

BLUETOOTH CONTROLLED ROBOCAR

Robotics has been the modern developing technology contemporarily and wireless technologies see a growing trend. Bluetooth is the primitive wireless technology for exchanging data over small distances.Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances (using short-wavelength UHF radio waves in the ISM band from 2.4 to 2.485 GHz) from fixed and mobile devices, and building personal area networks (PANs). Range is approximately 10 Meters (30 feet). These modules are based on the Cambridge Silicon Radio BC417 2.4 GHz Bluetooth Radio chip. This is a complex chip which uses an external 8 Mbit flash memory. HC05 module is an easy to use Bluetooth SPP (Serial Port Protocol) module, designed for transparent wireless serial connection setup. The HC-05 Bluetooth Module can be used in a Master or Slave configuration, making it a great solution for wireless communication. This serial port Bluetooth module is fully qualified Bluetooth V2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) 3Mbps Modulation with complete 2.4GHz radio transceiver and baseband. It uses CSR Blue core 04 External single chip Bluetooth systems with CMOS technology and with AFH (Adaptive Frequency Hopping Feature).

The Bluetooth module HC-05 is a MASTER/SLAVE module. By default the factory setting is SLAVE. The Role of the module (Master or Slave) can be configured only by AT COMMANDS. The slave modules cannot initiate a connection to another Bluetooth device, but can accept connections. Master module can initiate a connection to other devices. The user can use it simply for a serial port replacement to establish connection between MCU and GPS, PC to your embedded project.Working of the projectThe construction of the robot is as follows:i)Assemble the required components for the bot.ii)Download the Bluetooth Controller app on the phone.iv)Connect HC 05 on to the bread board.v)With the help of some jumper cables ,connect the Bluetooth modulevi)Now connect the RX (PIN#0) of the Arduino to the TX pin of the Bluetooth module and the TX (PIN#1) of Arduino to the RX pin of

the Bluetooth moduleThe Android application controlled robot communicates via Bluetooth to the Bluetooth module present on the robot. While pressing each button on the application, corresponding commands are sent via Bluetooth to the robot. The commands that are sent are in the form of ASCII. The Arduino on the robot then checks the command received with its previously defined commands and controls the servo motors depending on the command received to cause it to move forward, backward, left, right or to stop. Thus allowing us to create an Android controlled robot.Android app is used for Bluetooth connection along with the help of Bluetooth model. The app used is ‘Bluetooth Controller’. After getting the phone connected with the Bluetooth model, upon clicking the respective buttons, the robot will move accordingly.

Designing a Low Cost Solar ECG with Recording and Li-Fi Transmitting Technology

ECG (Electro Cardiography) technology have been existing today and has been serving a noble purpose in determining the heart rate of the patient and helping doctors worldwide diagnosing the problems. However most of the ECG’s available today are quite bulky and run with the power drawn from the supplied from the grid. This paper focuses on developing a new smaller version of the existing ECG but running on the power drawn from the sun by means of solar cells. This also comes bundled up with recording technology that keeps a record of the data of numerous patients and also with Li-Fi transmitting technology that allows transferring the recorded data into any Li-Fi enabled electronic gadget. Li-Fi works with the help of light rays and thus doesn’t cause any concerned radiation problems. The main aim of this technology is to take good medical facilities to the most rural areas of the country where there is no access to electricity. Also after any natural disaster we see a number of affected persons but we face power cut problems for which proper medical facilities might not be available as all of them run on grid power. In both of these cases solar energy would help.

MODELING AND APPLICATION OF TRANSFERFUNCTION ANALAYSIS IN WIND POWER CONVERSION WITH PMSG-A NOVEL APPROACH

A method for transfer function based modeling offering an in depth insight into the systematic behavior of wind energy conversion systems(WECS) is developed. The originally non linear behavior of the drive system covering the turbine, permanent magnet synchronous generator, and power electronic converter is rearranged and linearized resulting in compact transfer function poles and zeros and related stability are readily identified as a function of WECS parameters and the oprating point . Drive control design rules making use of the transfer function for setting the compensation parameters depending on the wind speed are established. The behavioural difference between speed and power control loops can readily be appreciated. The synthesis of power control loops to closely follow maximum available wind power is performed based on the design rules. In this context, the voltage sourced converter is operated in current mode control to contribute to fast adjustment of air gap torque while maintaining currents within limits. The direct and quadrature current references are calculated to attain the desired torque at minimal stator current magnitude and so enhance energy efficiency. The dynamic performance of the design is evidenced by time domain simulation and stochastic analysis.

MODULAR MULTILEVEL INVERTER TO WORK AS D-STATCOM FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

The design of a multilevel D-STATCOM inverter for small to mid-size (10–20 kW) permanent-magnet wind or solar installations. The proposed inverter can actively regulate the reactive power on individual feeder lines at a programmable output while providing the variable output power of the renewable energy source. The aim is to provide utilities with distributive control of VAR compensation and power factor correction on feeder lines. The designed inverter utilizes a 5-level hybrid- clamped multilevel voltage-source converter topology and uses the optimized harmonic stepped waveform technique for harmonic elimination. The topology allows for the separation of active and reactive power control and the ability to operate under any load conditions. The aim of the paper is to design a new type of inverter with FACTS capabilities to provide utilities with more knowledge about the distribution systems, specifically on end points. MMC has a modular design based on identical converter cells which make it a suitable choice for high-level applications.

ENVIRONMENTMany day-to-day activities may become challenging and complicated for those with eye-sight problems. Moving safely and confidently in a working environment without any human assistance is a tedious work for those people. Making them virtually visible in an environment is the aim of our project. In previous projects , obstacle detection is done using grayscale vision algorithm .In our paper we propose color vision algorithm that aims at highlighting the target while suppressing its surroundings and Statistically based fast bounded box (SFBB) makes use of principal component analysis technique to characterize the target features in which the color classification can be performed accurately. The detection of the obstacle in front of visually impaired users is also been achieved by Ada-Boost model to differentiate between living and non-living things and given as voice output.

to devoid of electricityThis paper proposes nanoproxide film such as Nanoporous oxide such as TiO2 are being used to intensify photo voltaic cell technology. Nanoparticles are quintessential to engross solar energy and they can be used in very thin layer on convential metals to absorb incident solar energy. New solar cells are based on nanoparticles of semiconductors, nanofilms and nanotube by embedding in a charge transfer medium. Films formed by sintering of nanometric particles of TiO2 (diameter 10-20 nm) combine high surface area, transparency, excellent stability and good electrical conductivity and are ideal for photovoltaic applications. Non porous oxide films are highly promising material for photovoltaic applications. Nanotechnology opens the opportunity to produce cheaper and friendlier solar cells. Our main object is to pertain this nanoporous oxide film into the mobile phone display and load the phone without electrical contact by renewable source of energy.
