Christian Friends, Giving all Praises to God, It is hard to believe that it has been 20 years since the inception of the 1992 program. We welcome you to the 2012 Christian Acappella Music Awards, presented by NACAMA, and hosted by the Churches of Christ. CAMA, had its beginnings in South Florida as a tribute to the groups, artist’s, song writers and song leaders who proclaim our Lord and Savior in Song. As we celebrate 20 years of programming, you will find both, many of whom could be termed seasoned Artists’, who have been a major part of CAMA for a number of years, and a considerable number of first time participants. While we have reduced the number of workshops this year, we are truly pleased by the quality of our presenters and facilitators. When we look at the Musical backgrounds of the staff in-cluding, Jesse Murrah, Keith Lancaster, Willie Ray Norwood, Dr. Joi Carr and others, we are really in for a treat. Many of you ask often about the nominations process as it relates to how recipients are chosen. Let me take a moment to explain. In the beginning, when we had very few groups traveling throughout the country, we started our recognition by acknowledging everyone who participated in the program. Over the years, we have tried a number of processes including voting and ended with sort of a self- nomination system supported by a team decision making. This was determined after we realized that the voting didn’t seem fair as it became more of a regional popularity contest than any type of artist recognition. Because we do not have information on every artist who perhaps should be recognized and with the inception of the internet, you tube and other technological advances, it is easier to have artist send information to us, than for us to seek you out by word of mouth. This year, it is possible that you will not see many of the usual names that we normally consider to be the greatest artist in the Lords Church. The reason being that many of the groups have been acknowledged previously, and have not created any new pro-jects during this particular two year period. Other reasons include, simply making room

for new artist to get a chance to be recognized and for you to become familiar with these new talented Christians. We are thankful to God and to each of you for making the sacrifice to attend this years’ program. We understand that it has been a very difficult period for many during this economic downturn. Please remember that CAMA began with an intent which was broken into three major components; To give honor to whom honor is due, according to the word of God, by way of providing recognition to those who are deserving, for their contributions to the furtherance of Acappella in the Lords Body. Secondly, to provide a forum for Artists’ and members to come together and learn, encourage and present their ideas and creativity, which helps each other to help our congregations and fellowships grow stronger. And finally, it is our prayer, by our coming together, that discussions will occur which will ignite others to question and learn more about our faith by way of understanding our use of Acappella Music. As we celebrate 20 years and 11 productions of the Christian Acappella Music Awards, we hope that you would join in with us in spreading the word all over the country, so that, If our Gods says so, we will be able to truly grow greatly during the next 20 years. Again, I am thrilled by this years’ festivities as I prayerfully transition my role into one of support to Aldanzo L. Pratt II, who will be assuming more of a leadership role in the future. I am aware that there are those who are concerned with some artist paths and the fact that some have forgotten that we sing to Glorify God and to give him the praise. While this can become a major issue, it is similar to those of us who are Congregation-al ministers, who also are preaching for many of the wrong reasons. This is not any-thing that the Lord did not expect would occur as people will tend to be who they are in any given circumstance. We thank all of those who have worked hard during our existence and may God bless you mightily in your music ministries.

She has produced/engineered nine recordings and has written and pub-lished over forty songs. Joi has extended her ministry and expertise as a producer/engineer and vocal arranger to other artists such as Willie Nor-wood (“I Believe”), Rhynett Chatman (“God of a Second Chance”), Infu-sion (“Music for the Soul”), and Jay Green (“Great Sunday Morning”) among others. She is also a private vocal coach and speaks at various seminars and workshops across the country. She was formally trained in Seth Riggs' legendary speech level vocal technique by noted vocal coach Ricky Nelson and received classical vocal training and music theory at Lubbock Christian University. In addition to her artistic side, Joi is an educator. Dr. Carr is an Assistant Professor of English and Film Studies in the Humanities division at Pep-perdine University. She teaches American literature, Film Studies and Theater. Her courses include Multicultural Women’s Literature/Theory, African American Cinema, Women and Film, Introduction to Film, African American Literature and Theater Ensemble. “Teaching is an extension of my love for learning and sharing with others. It’s a wonderful challenge and extremely rewarding,” she says.

Keith Lancaster , 2008 Keith Lancaster; the name itself is synonymous with quality, whether it is production, song writing, singing, or ministry. He is a change agent;

the man behind Acappella, AVB, Durant, the Lancasters, & The Acappella Company.

Chris Turner , 2006 Chris Turner is The Voice. He is a Producer, song leader, song writer,

Vocalist, Minister, and lover and encourager of young people every-where.

Harold Robinson, 2010 He has been one of the most sought out song leaders throughout the

Churches of Christ Brotherhood. Always bringing the soulful and sultry voice which seems to emanate from a deep conviction to singing.

Elijah Bush & Robert Ivory, Sr. , 2004 While The Lifetime Achievement is usually given to

an individual each year, there is just no way to sepa-rate these two recipients as they have provided great singing, Ministry, entertainment and blessed hearts together as a major part of the Inner City Singers

for over 40 years. Brothers Ivory and Bush have been a blessing to many with their ol’ fashion, but always timely songs.

Jesse Murrah, 2002 Jesse is perhaps the consummate entertainer, meaning, he is a pro-lific songwriter, Actor , Producer , MC and not to mention the group founder of Straight Company, Jesse has been blessing people all

over the world with his unique talent of being Mr. Everything when it comes down to music in general and Acappella Music, specifically.

Veronica Williams, 2000 Singer Music Directress, Veronica provided us with many musical blessings as the Director of SWCC Chorus as well as hosting the

Christian Acappella Music Awards twice, in 1996 and 98.

Ronald Walker, 1998 Vocalist, Songwriter; Ron has had a distinguished career as a

singer and a writer of songs we cherish including, Cool Inside and Heaven’s On The Other Side, as well as many others.

Johnnie Wilder, Jr., 1996 Songwriter, Producer, Lead singer ; Johnnie was instrumental in changing the standard

for Christian Acappella music in the Churches of Christ. Founder and lead sing-er of the World renown group HEATWAVE.

Johnnie produced arguably, the greatest Christian acappella album ever in Straight

Company’s I Like It as well as many others including The Four Christian Stars, The

Melodiares, Joi Carr, and The Southside Singers.

Wayburn Dean, 1994 Vocalist; as a former lead voice of Renaissance and Acappella , Wayburn touched the hearts of many with his soulful sultry voice.

Sylvia Rose-Cobb, 1992 Songwriter; Music Directress, Sylvia has blessed the lives of many while at SWCC as

the Director of the chorus and has contributed even greater to our congregational singing by way of songs such as A Mansion, Robe and Crown, Restore My Spirit

and many, many, more.
