Clearvision overview

Clearvision Lighting has a 15-year pedigree in ergonomic and environmental lighting. We have been at the leading edge of the industry in adopting new technology and design techniques to improve workplaces and reduce energy consumption.

Our appreciation of daylight has been apparent from the beginning. One of our first innovations in ergonomics was Virtual Daylight® in 1997, which has since been copied by many other companies.

We focus on lens technologies (some patented) that are central to our most successful products. We find that they’re an effective means of optimising design between efficiency, glare control and useful light distribution.

Clearvision is a project lighting company with a focus on customer applications for our products. We therefore provide a full technical support service–including Dialux (plug-in available), AutoCAD, emergency test and control systems.

Please contact our technical department for design and product related questions and sales for project quotations. All queries can be addressed to [email protected] or on 01252 344011.

The Calyx

The Calyx is a direct/indirect suspended luminaire suited to office

lighting, education and public space as it combines uniform light

distribution with high efficiency.

The fitting has two visual options – the standard neutral diffuse M45

or the more striking fisheye Q45 lens. It is standard as a twin lamp

luminaire in 2x28W or 2x54W T5 fluorescent, but is also available in

1x54W or 3x28W for higher spaces.

The Calyx has a quality appearance exemplified by the machined

and anodised aluminium ends. Maintenance is also simple, an easy

opening catch on the lens allows it to swing open for relamping or

cleaning.

Calyx lenses

M45 (Standard)The M45 lens is formed from layers of polymer material to provide a very diffuse optic with higher transmission than conventional opal materials. The diffusion is created by combining microlinear prismatic material with a white diffuse layer. The common hotspot read of the lamp is smoothed out by the microprism whilst diffusion is enhanced.

The standard M45 K-series lens is retained within an anodised aluminium frame and into the luminaire via spring loaded polypropylene shootbolts. The end caps are formed of translucent polycarbonate.

Q45The Q45 lens is constructed from two layers of PETG and polycarbonate. The lower layer has a circular Fresnel radial prism module, which creates the striking visible pattern. Both layers are retained within a frame of anodised aluminium extrusion with polycarbonate end caps. The lens is designed for retention with luminaire bodies via spring loaded polypropylene shoot bolts.

The Q45 optics are the result of the relationship between the radial Fresnel prism and the translucent upper layer, which creates a 3D effect within the module. The light is spread out by the fisheye optics of the radial prisms. Incident light is segmented into the appearance of multiple sources. This combination of optics has a strong visual effect.

The lenses are designed for interior use, but the optical materials are rated as having good resistance to UV discolouration at higher exterior levels. The materials – PETG and PC – are both resistant to abrasion and impact and have a Class 1Y, 950°C glow wire, non toxic rating.

Technical

The Calyx has been designed with maintenance in mind. Firstly there is a wipe clean lower surface to the lens that is designed to prevent dirt build-up. The removable hinged lens can be easily opened by sliding over the two spring loaded shootbolts, which means the lens can be cleaned inside whilst in position. There are no plastic endcaps that are vulnerable to damage or complicated fixings to confuse product maintenance. The lamps use twist & lock holders that are easily accessible.

Should maintenance of the ballast be required, this can be done by removing the gear cover (3 screws) on the rear of the fitting, this can be accomplished with the fitting in its normal position. The gear tray has a terminal block with removable fuse when it is necessary to isolate the fitting from the mains supply.

The power take-off (optional) contains the ceiling terminal block and clutch adjustable wire that suspends the fitting at one end – the other end has a standard ceiling wire fixing. The suspension wires have slide fixing on the luminaire to allow adjustment for leveling – a useful feature on a single wire suspension.
