Activities to Reduce andAbolish Environmental
Load Material
182005 Environmental Report
For improved the quality of products, many environmental load material have been used in those products andproduction stages. Therefore, there is concern that those products exercise enormous influence to environmentin production stages, stages of use, and scrap stages after use. Because of this situation, with heightening ofglobal environmental consciousness, domestic and international requests of reduction and abolition have beenconsolidated as for environmental load material included in products every year.CalsonicKansei will observe law and customer requests, and promote to reduce environmental load materialused in products based on the reduction plan that we have established.
Activities to Reduce and Abolish Environmental Load Material
Basic IdeaReduction of environmental load material has been positioned, equivalent to environmental correspondence of products,
to quality, cost, and delivery time.
In addition to performance function and economic rationality, we attempt activities based on the correspondence at the
following environmental aspects.
Environmental correspondenceof products
Reduction of environmental load material used in products
Green Purchasing
Environmental correspondenceof purchase
Environmental load material used in purchase
Confirmation of customer's environmental management level
Quick disclosure of environmental load material
Environmental load material used in product process ofpurchase
Environmental correspondence of products (minimization of environmental load material used in products)
CalsonicKansei has promoted reinforcement of manage-
ment and follow-up system and development of alterna-
tive technology so that we satisfy the observation of
each law and requests of customers, and tackle the
reduction of environmental load material used in pro-
ducts. In 2004 FY, we promoted to follow-up reduction
activities at the product environment committee. We will
set the elimination of four materials; lead, hexavalent
chromium, mercury, and cadmium as the first target. We
have already finished the elimination of lead, mercury
and cadmium except a portion. The elimination of
hexavalent chromium from those products is in process
of promotion. We have a plan to switch over all products
including hexavalent chromium during 2006 FY.

Activities to Reduce andAbolish EnvironmentalLoad Material
2005 Environmental Report19
Promotion of Green ProcurementWe have been thinking that the management of environ-
mental load material contained in purchasing parts or
material is the most important. Green procurement is
what we set down controlled chemical substances,
deadline, and so on, in the “Green Purchasing
Guideline” that we have established with observing law
and customer requests, also is what purchasing parts
and material are assured by suppliers’ management
criteria.
CalsonicKansei has disclosed “Green Purchasing
Guideline” to outside and started Green Purchasing
since 2002. In May, 2005 we drastically reviewed Green
Purchasing Guideline which has been disclosed to our
company regulation about the traditional green
purchasing and to outside, then we started new green
purchasing. Besides, promotion of green purchasing
contributes to reduction of environmental load material,
not only by the management of purchasing, but also by
strengthening suppliers’ activities.
1. Environmental corresponding for purchase (purchase parts, materials)
We want the suppliers to understand our “Green
purchasing guideline”, and we perform “investigation of
substances contained in purchased parts and materials”
and “investigation of substances used in the manufac-
ture of purchases” at the time of occurrence of new pur-
chase from the suppliers, we determine the purchase.
1) Chemical substances in the products
①No control chemical substances (chemical substances
immediately altered or disused) in green purchasing
guideline are contained.
②Control chemical substances (substances whose use
is limited or monitored) in the guideline are restrained
as possible. Alteration or disuse for its use purpose.
Report submission when in use.
2) Control chemical substances in the manufacturing
process
①No control chemical substances (chemical substances
immediately altered or disused) in green purchasing
guideline are used.
②Report submission is needed when control chemical
substances (substances whose use is limited or
monitored) in the guideline are used.
3) Conformity to the above can be proved
It is indispensable to establish a partnership with the
suppliers in order to promote green purchasing.
We confirm whether the suppliers have the system
according to ISO 14001 or its equivalent and confirm the
suppliers' state of the system.
As for new suppliers, we perform the investigation when
the transaction starts, then we aim the establishment of
green partnership. Regarding environmental
management system, we investigate the following three
items.
①acquire the certification of environmental management
system such as ISO14001.
②on the way to acquisition of the certification of envi-
ronmental management system such as ISO14001,
should have concrete schedule for acquiring the certi-
fication.
③have the activities equivalent to 1 or 2.

Quick Disclosure of Environmental load Material Information in ProductsEach car makers, our customers, has reduced environ-
mental load material in automotive products with the
correspondence of each control, EU scrap car order;
and with improvement of environmental consciousness.
Besides, each car makers has requested quick dis-
closure of information, material and substance data with
the abolition of controlled substances.
Especially, with the momentum of EU scrap car order,
each car makers has strongly made a material data
report compulsory to suppliers. CalsonicKansei has
made quick disclosure of environmental load material
information by customers’ request.
Quick report system of environmental load material to customers, “MDRS”
With the view toward quick disclosing of environmental load material information, CalsonicKansei has developed
and established “the design system which links the information of the parts No. and name are included and called
"Parts list” with upload/download system provided by EDS Co., and which supports the input of “IMDS”, then
prompt disclosing of information for the customers is taken with us.
《IMDS (International Electronic Material Data System) 》
IMDS is the system that parts makers input the data and transmit, exchanging the information with internet server.
MDRS loads parts composition (tree structure) from PDM with one click, and separates parts and materials from material master which is already created, and migrates the data to the linkage in-house server. It is possible for persons in charge of input to correspond with a few man-hours, without facing the Web, by one screen operation. After that, by automatic upload system, MDRS registers with automatic upload from in-house server to IMDS server. It enables man-hour of designer to be reduced drastically.

“MDRS” (Material Data Report Support System)
This “MDRS” enables us to timely deal with customers'
green purchasing and store the material date in
CalsonicKansei PDM on the parts No. basis for the
products reported with this “MDRS”. The stored material
data can be effectively confirmed.
As the stored material data can be effectively confirmed,
the system can be connected with going forward the
product development which is environmental-friendly to
scrap after use.
《Characteristics of this system》①Speed : Compared with the access method of existing Web, it
reduced transmitting time drastically.②Standardization :
As the standard process transmitting system of automatictansmitting which is using of upload/download, EDS-JAPAN Co.also recommends this system.(EDS-JAPAN Co.: IMDS Management Company)
By improving material structure of which system is not associatedwith attributes of this as material master data (standardization), itmakes a great contributes to future responses for environment.
③Network :Linked with PDM, it is possible to access from any PC in allcompanies.

2) Domestic and overseas affiliates
As the global activity, also, we have promoted amount
of final landfill disposal by “zero emission” activity.
CalsonicKansei considers that the most fundamental activity
for the reduction of waste is “zero emission” activity.
CalosnicKansei thinks it important to continue zero emission.
An attainment does not mean end. We keep control as daily
business to confirm the attainment and to collaborate with
ISO 14001 activities. We further promote wastes reduction
and recycling for attaining zero emission plant.

Conservation of soil and groundwaterWe have performed the measures for conservation of soiland groundwater with “Activities for the plant which causedsoil pollution”, “Activities for preventive measures for soil
pollution”, “Complete investigation”, “Risk assesment foreach site of domestic affiliates”, and others.
We have aerated pumping to groundwater since 1999
as measures for soil and groundwater purification
(purification by chlorinated solvent) in former Omiya
plant. We have also started the system of direct purifi-
cation to soil in May 2003 to continue purification.
As we have started to dismantle building since
November, 2004, we have been performing direct

In all plants using heavy oil A as fuel, buried line has
been already changed for ground one. We promote
gasification to reduce soil pollution risk. In Nihonmatsu
plant (current comporate name: CKF Corp.), in the
neck of changing for LPG as boiler fuel, we introduced
heating air conditioning equipment, LPG fuel system,
to Gunma plant. Besides, we planned to introduce
gas boiler with natural gas fuel to Yoshimi plant in
2004 FY and finished doing it in May, 2005. Hereafter,
we will be able to make an allowance for the intro-
duction effect of natural gas for CO2 reduction.
After confirming pollution in Omiya Plant, we assess
soil pollution risk in each region and plant in the order
of higher risk assessment.
(*Soil pollution risk assessment: Document investiga-
tion according to soil regulations.)
From 2004 FY, we have established an observation
well on the border in Atsugi plant site for observation.
We have performed risk assessment for twelve
domestic production sites including affiliates.

To maintain limited earth resources, CalsonicKansei has promoted recycling activities of waste parts and
materials from end-of-life vehicles and production processes since 1990. We have tackled the establishment
collection route of waste parts and materials, recycling experimental study, recycling plant operation, and sales
channel of recycling products (Green Sales.)
We have considered that recycling activities are responsibility of corporate citizen, also have consistently tackled
the ensuring of profits and antithetical activities seriously.
We will further promote the recycling activities accommodating ourselves to recycling-oriented society needs.
Recycling Activities
CalsonicKansei recycling systemA key to successful recycling is to establish recyclingtechnique and to systemaze from collection of wastesto sales. CalsonicKansei has made total developmentfor the establishment of effection recycling system from
basic research, experimental study, and recyclingtechnique to the operation about 3R (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle).

2005 Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry- Resources Recycling Technology ---- System Award
By our promotion for recycling project of precious metal from metalcatalyst converter collected in the market, CalsonicKansei earned theprize for the incentive award at “2005 Resources recycling technolo-gy--system award” performed by Clean Japan Center Foundation(commissioned by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry). Thecontent of this project is collecting precious metal (platinum, rhodium, and palladium) from metal carrier of the catalyst for vehicle exhaustgas. Since metal catalyst is coated with ceramic wash coat, preciousmetal including stainless foil, for recycling, it has been difficult toseparate from stainless foil. CalsonicKansei has developed Dryseparetor (patent applied) peeling physically and established recyclingtechnology which is different from the way of chemical separation usedbe, it gave us an award this time. This recycling has receivedrecognition as the most effective way for precious metal refiningbecause of collection the wash coat including precious metal in highyield and high purity.

2005 Environmental Report31
Automotive recycling law is the institution bicame effective in January 1,2005: as a general rule, someexpenses for recycling and disposal of ASR (Automobile Shredder Residue, Shredder Dust), air-bagkinds, Freon, are borne by car owner at the time of delivery. Ahead of implementation of the law,CaosonicKansei has tackled technical development for recycling of automobile parts, especially inassociated with disposal of ASR that is the most difficult degree of Automotive Recycling Law, which isnot ASR, but equivalent products. We will perform ASR recycling in conjunction with material recyclingand thermal recycling (utilization of gasification fusion furnace and nonferrous smelting facility). However,we consider the issue that ASR material recycling has many extraneous material and leaves to beimproved of material quality, on the other hand, thermal recycling leaves the problem which is landfill ofincinerated ash for burning organic constituent, which is the global warming issue by combust heat. Forthese reason, CalsonicKansei will correspond to the issue with taking apart large plastic parts from ELV(used car) without making them to ASR, and with recycling to equivalent mater ials and parts by materialrecycling. This activity, we consider it important issue to establish the system about “Ensure of recycling amount”,“Establishment of recycling technology”, “Ensure of customers including proper material price” with carmakers, auto salvage buisinesses, material makers, service parts makers, and transport businesses.Hereinafter, we introduce a part of the case which in practice, established technologically, and in review.
