People: We will praise God with all our heart and glorify the name of the Most High forever.

*Praise to the Lord, the Almighty

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the king of creation! O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation! All ye who hear, now to his temple draw near, Join me in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth, Shelters thee under his wings, yea, so gently sustaineth! Hast thou not seen how thy desires e’er have been Granted in what he ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee! Surely his goodness and mercy here daily attend thee; Ponder anew what the Almighty will do, If with his love he befriend thee.

Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him! All that has life and breath, come now with praises before him! Let the amen sound from his people again; Gladly for e’er we adore him.

Music: LOBE DEN HERREN, Stralsund Gesangbuch Lyrics: Joachim Leander

*Affirmation of Faith Heidelberg Catechism, Question 1

Minister: What is your only comfort, in life and in death?

People: That I belong—body and soul, in life and in death—not to myself but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who at the cost of his own blood has fully paid for all my sins and has completely freed me from the dominion of the devil; that he protects me so well that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that everything must fit his purpose for my salvation.

Therefore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

*My Only Comfort

What is your only comfort in life or in death? That I belong body and soul to the Lord who gives me breath, To the Lord who gives me breath.

He has fully paid for my sins with his own precious blood. He has set me free from the tyranny of the ruler of this world, Of the ruler of this world.

Chorus: Oh I am not my own; I am bound to Christ alone. My only comfort in this life is belonging to the Lord, Is belonging to the Lord.

I believe in the resurrection and the promise that was made: That my body and soul will be made whole On the Lord’s Anointed Day, on the Lord’s Anointed Day. (Chorus)

No eye has fully seen, no ear has fully heard, No human heart can imagine the world that is to come, The world that is to come. (Chorus 2x)

Music & Lyrics: Joe Deegan, based on The Heidelberg Catechisms 1 & 22

Prayer for Christ’s Church and the World

Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah

Guide me, O thou great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land. I am weak, but thou art mighty; hold me with thy powerful hand. Bread of heaven, feed me now and evermore; Bread of heaven, feed me now and evermore.

Open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing waters flow; Let the fire and cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through. Strong Deliverer, be thou still my Strength and Shield; Strong Deliverer, be thou still my Strength and Shield;

When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside; Death of death, and hell's destruction, land me safe on Canaan's side. Songs of praises, I will ever give to thee; Songs of praises, I will ever give to thee. Land me safe on Canaan’s side; Bid my anxious fears, bid my anxious fears, Land me safe on Canaan’s side; Bid my anxious fears, bid my anxious fears goodbye.

Prayer of Confession based on Psalm 130:1-6

Almighty God, your mercy is higher than the heavens, wider than our wanderings, deeper than our sin.

Forgive our shallow attitude toward life, our callousness toward suffering, our envy of others, our neglect of your wise law.

Change us by the power of the Holy Spirit, that we may desire what is good, love what you love, and do what you command, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

*Words of Assurance Acts 10:43

Minister: All the prophets testify about Christ that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.

*All the People Said Amen

You are not alone if you are lonely; When you feel afraid you're not the only. We are all the same in need of mercy To be forgiven and be free. It's all you have to lean on, But thank God it's all you need.

Chorus: And all the people said amen, oh; And all the people said amen. Give thanks to the Lord for his love never ends; And all the people said amen.

If you're rich or poor, it does not matter; Weak or strong, you know love is what we're after. We're all broken, but we're all in this together; God knows we stumble and fall; And he so loved the world He sent his Son to save us all. (Chorus)

Blessed are the poor in spirit who are torn apart. Blessed are the persecuted and the pure in heart. Blessed are the people hungry for another start; For theirs is the kingdom, the kingdom of God. (Chorus 2x)

And all the people said amen.

Music & Lyrics: Matt Maher, Paul Moak, and Trevor Morgan

The Sermon “Costly Grace” Crown and Cross

*Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken

Jesus, I my cross have taken, all to leave and follow thee; Destitute, despised, forsaken, thou from hence my all shall be. Perish every fond ambition, all I’ve sought or hoped or known; Yet how rich is my condition, God and heaven are still my own.

Go, then, earthly fame and treasure, come disaster, scorn and pain; In thy service, pain is pleasure, with thy favor, loss is gain. I have called thee Abba Father, I have stayed my heart on thee; Storms may howl, and clouds may gather; All must work for good to me.

Soul, then know thy full salvation; rise o’er sin and fear and care; Joy to find in every station, something still to do or bear. Think what Spirit dwells within thee, Think what Father’s smiles are thine, Think that Jesus died to win thee, child of heaven, canst thou repine. Haste thee on from grace to glory, armed by faith, And winged by prayer; Heaven’s eternal day’s before thee, God’s own hand Shall guide us there. Soon shall close thy earthly mission, soon shall pass Thy pilgrim days; Hope shall change to glad fruition, faith to sight, And prayer to praise.

Music: Bill Moore Lyrics: Henry Lyte

*Benediction Jude 24-25

Minister: Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forevermore!

People: Thanks be to God! Amen.
