The 25 Year Award recognizes completed building projects located in Minnesota, either individual buildings or groups of buildings, completed at least 25 - but not more than 50 years ago. The projects must have been designed by firms with architects registered and

practicing professionally in Minnesota.

Jury Submissions will be juried by a past 25 Year Award Recipient or U of MN, College of Design Faculty, a past Young Architect Award Recipient, and a new AIA Minnesota Fellow. Award recipients will be notified no later than June 30, 2014.

ReturnofSubmissions1. AIA Minnesota will retain disks of all projects submitted.2. Photos will be used for AIA Minnesota promotional efforts.3. AIA Minnesota bears no responsibility for any submitted material that is misplaced or lost. Submitters are advised to have duplicates of all images and materials submitted.

AIA Minnesota 25 Year Award Step 2: Create Submission Binder & CDOnce you have sent in your entry form and fee, you will receive an entry number and a binder.

Using the entry number (do not identify the project in any way), create a presentation to be submitted in print within the binder and digitally saved as a PDF Imagebook on a CD. To download a sample imagebook, go to http://www.aia-mn.org/int_committees/awards.cfm

Each project’s presentation will be unique - the design of the presentation content/layout is determined by the entrant, although there are specific sections and information that must be included within the presentation to qualify for submission.

Submittal Requirements1. Exterior and interior images of the project sufficient to describe the building(s) completely are required. Images showing the original condition

of the building(s), as well as recent views, are required. Include the dates that the photos were taken.2. Current images taken from similar viewpoints as the original images are recommended. Include the dates that the photos were taken.3. Site and building plans.4. Title image.5. Project Description (found on page 8). Each submission must include a Project Description. This is a concise description of the building(s),

including: a statement of the problem; a description of the site and environs; a description of the history of the building(s) including any modifications or changes in use; and a statement of the significance of the project to the community and to the architectural profession.

6. Forms found on pages 9-12. Each submission must include these completed forms.

Binder guidelines:• The spine and front cover of binder should be used to identify the project. Do not identify the firm or individual design team, as the entry will be

disqualified if identification appears anywhere within the submission.• Print the entry number in the upper right corner of the binder cover. Binders contain a front cover-page and 24 internal pages (12 two-sided

sleeves). • Binders must not exceed the 25 page total. Page layout may be either two-page spread or single-page format, or a combination of both.

AIA Minnesota 25 Year Award Step 2 (cont.): Create Submission Binder & CDBinder&CDguidelines:

1. A maximum of 16 exterior and interior images (site and building plans) of the project - sufficient to describe the building(s) completely. NOTE: Projects will be evaluated based on the images and written description only. The jury will not visit the projects.

2. Site and building plans (for the CD, drawings in Illustrator may be in emfs or wmfs format).3. Images showing the original condition and the current condition of the building(s). Label each image with the date of the photo.4. Current images taken from the exact viewpoint as the original images are recommended.5. Project Description (found on page 8). Each submission must include a concise description of the building(s), including a statement of the

problem; a description of the site and environs; a description of the history of the building(s) including any modifications or changes in use; and a statement of the significance of the project to the community and to the architectu ral profession.

CDguidelines: On a CD, save the following:1. A PDF Imagebook of the binder presentaion that is no larger than 4MB. The Imagebook will contain copies of the spreads of the images and

descriptions that are in the printed binder. This allows the jury to view the presentation via projector and on their laptops. Label the PDF file with your entry number and 25YR.pdf. For example if 8 was your assigned entry number you would name your file 8_25YR.pdf

2. A copy of each of the digital images within your imagebook/binder saved at 72dpi in JPG format sized either to 9.5” wide for horizontal format or 9.5” high for vertical format. Name each image using the entry number as follows: entry number, image number, and award program. For example for Entry Number 8 and with submitted 16 images, the first image name would be: 8_01_25YR.jpg and the last would be 8_16_25YR.jpg

3. Images should be sequenced to correspond with the order they appear in the submission binder.4. Images should each be ONE image per JPEG. Do not submit an image that contains multiple images (i.e. a snapshot of the spread or page within

the Submission PDF) as these do not work well for viewing with a digital projector. 5. Completed forms from pages 8-12 should be saved to the CD in the following format: entry number, form description (IE: PCF) and award

program: 8_PCF_25YR.doc. (These forms may be found on pages 8-12 of this booklet.)6. A digital logo for architectural firm submitting the entry and the client’s logo if desired. The image(s) should be named: 8_archlogo_25YR,jpg

and 8_clientlogo_25YR.jpg.

AWARDS CELEBRATION

If your project receives the 25 Year Award - your award certificate will be presented at the annual Awards Celebration on December 5, 2014.

Two complimentary tickets are provided to the architect to attend the event. Clients are welcome and encouraged to attend.

One framed certificate is created for the 25 Year Award recipient project and one certificate for the firm of record.
