The statistics contained in these rankings are compiled by The Jockey Club Information Systems Inc. (TJCIS). While every effort is made to prevent errors and omissions, California Thoroughbred cannot guarantee their complete and totalaccuracy. A dagger (†) indicates that a stallion has been pensioned, an asterisk (*) that he has died, a dot (•) that he is now standing elsewhere, a number sign (#) that he did not stand in California in 2012 but is standing in the state in 2013,a double dagger (‡) that he is not standing in California in 2013 but will stand in the state in 2014 and in bold that he is a freshman sire. In all cases, a sire will remain in the rankings until the year after his last California foals are two-year-olds. Statistics cover racing in North America (U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico), England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates only.

The California Retirement Management Account (CARMA) is pleasedto announce the development of a new service for owners and trainersto assist in the placement of their Thoroughbreds in need of retirement. Through the generosity of the Santa Anita Park After-CareProgram—an initiative to support racehorse retirement created byowner-breeder Frank Stronach—CARMA has created the CARMAPlacement Program. This new program will facilitate the transition ofhorses from the racetrack to an approved CARMA Aftercare Partner(non-profit benefactors of CARMA grant funds) for placement in theirforever home.

The Placement Program will work directly with owners and trainersto transition horses admitted to the program to Winners’ Circle Ranchin Bradbury, California, to be assessed, treated if necessary, and thenplaced with the appropriate aftercare partner. The aftercare partnerwill provide rest, retraining and adoption, both, or permanent retirement, if necessary.

There are several prerequisites to be fulfilled before the horse willbe admitted into the program.

Owners or trainers must provide some information about thehorse’s physical condition; we understand injury is a common reasonfor retirement.

We cannot accept colts into the program but newly gelded horses, geldings, and fillies/mares are welcome.

The Placement Program is funded by the Santa Anita Park After-Care Program so we require that your horse has run at SantaAnita, Hollywood Park or the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club within thelast six months or has been training with recorded works over that timespan (showing the intent to run at one of those tracks).

A donation of $500 is requested to help defray the transportationand administrative costs associated with each horse.

While we know many owners have the necessary connections andcontacts to retire their horses directly, the Placement Program offers asafe and simple option for racehorse retirement.

We invite all owners and trainers to utilize the program for horses inneed of retirement. For more information please refer to the CARMAwebsite: www.carma4horses.org/resources/carma-placement-pro-gram. You can also contact the office at (626) 574-6654 or by email [email protected].

REGION #3:

Compared to last week: All classes of hay traded mostly steady. According to USDA-NASS, California has experienced its seventh warmestspring on record. Range and non-irrigated pasture continue to deteriorate from fair to poor. The Northern two regions received scatteredshowers throughout the beginning of the week which slowed trading activity. Summer continues to set in throughout Regions 5 and 6 withtemperatures predicted to reach 110 to 115 degrees by the weekend. As a result, fire danger continues to be a concern throughout the Southern portions of the state and on the East side of the Sierras. All prices reported FOB at the stack or barn unless otherwise noted.
